I was excited when I saw that a new Erika Foster novel was coming out. Thank you to NetGalley for the early copy to read and review.
It's the ninth book in the series and finally there is movement on the 10 year old case in Manchester that happened well before Book 1. Investigating a murder, Erika comes face to face with the man responsible for her husband's murder. At least she thinks so.
What follows is some excellent writing that jumps between the modern story and events that happened up to 20 years prior. We see the backstory of the people responsible for that 10 year old slaughter.
This was engaging, well written and includes all of the characters that we have grown accustomed to in the series. Love them or hate them, they are almost all in this novel.
Erika's story finally feels resolved. I didn't realize I needed or wanted to have it resolved, but in reading this novel, I was glad that this was the direction this novel took.

Like other Erika Foster novels, she gets into trouble with superiors, does her own thing and own thinking and stretches boundaries.

Another excellent read by Bryndza. I look forward to more.

You cannot beat an Erika Foster novel and I was delighted to be approved for this one.

In Chasing Shadows, Erika comes face to face with the man responsible for the death of her husband, and many other officers, almost 10 years ago....or does she? The man in question has a different name and claims not to know anything about what Erika is referring to.

After pursuing this vendetta against him, Erika is 'asked' to take some leave meaning she needs to investigate from outwith her police role. However, when she returns she uncovers.....well, that would be telling.

This can be read as a standalone however, as with most of these novels, you would really benefit from having read at least some of the previous novels. This is a brilliant series of novels and always keeps you engaged.

Thanks to Raven Street Publishing and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh.my.word.....what a story!!!
I've been waiting to discover the back story to Erika's life and the events that resulted in her husband's death, and we finally got all the details. I couldn't put this down.....read in a day and devastated when it ended!
Not really sure how it could be topped, but I'll be waiting patiently for the next installment (but please make it quick!).

This is book #9 in the Erika Foster series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book. This series is fantastic, and whilst we did have a little hiatus in between books 6 and 7, the past 3 books have been the best books of the series! DCI Erika Foster is a great character and I will happily read any book that has her in it. She's forced to revisit her past when, whilst investigating the discovery of a dead young woman in a flat, she comes face to face with Jerome Goodman, the man who was responsible for murdering her husband 10 years previously. Except, it isn't him...or everyone says it isn't, but Erika knows who she saw and she now just has to prove it.

This book was absolutely brilliant! After reading the 8 previous books in the series, we finally get to see what happened 10 years before when Erika's husband was killed in a police raid organised by her. Erika is such a likeable character and whilst she is now happy in life with Igor, her husband's death will always play on her mind, particularly as she felt responsible for it. We get to see Erika at her best again backed up by her team in investigating not just the woman's death, but quietly looking into Goodman's life since that fateful night. However, Erika also has to fight her own personal demons, returning to the area where it happened and meeting old colleagues who still bore a grudge.

This book was fast paced, straight into the action right from the beginning and not letting up until the turn of the last page. I knew I'd be transfixed by this latest instalment in Erika's life, but it was so much more than that! I was hooked and finished the book super quick as I just couldn't put it down. I loved finding out what happened, and whilst there was a little part of me that wondered whether Erika had lost the plot, there was also a big part of me that knew that no matter what she was going through, she was far tougher than that!

I know no matter what book this author writes, we will always be given the best. His writing is superb and I will recommend him each and every time. If you're looking for a police procedure crime read which is gripping and filled with suspense, thrills and tension, then look no further!

Chasing Shadows by Robert Bryndza is a thrilling, fast-paced story of a search for delayed justice and closure that will sweep you away and keep you turning the pages until the very end.
Bryndza has one again produced a fascinating and intense thriller, with relatable characters on one hand, and unspeakably corrupt on the other. It all makes for a non-stop thrill ride such as we have come to expect from this master of suspense.
I was thrilled to get an ARC of #ChasingShadows from #NetGalley, and highly recommend this newest book in the Detective Erika Foster Series.

This takes us back to the awful time when Erika’s husband and other police colleagues were killed at a drugs raid in Manchester but becomes connected with murders down in London. A radiator falls through a ceiling revealing a body and traces of cocaine. But there’s corruption in the upper echelons of the Met. It’s a must read nail biting edition in the series. Wonderful

Absolutely loved this!

We finally get to find out who killed Erika's husband and her colleagues during a police operation.

Great writing, outstanding storyline and to find out who was helping the criminals was mind blowing! Sincerely hope there will be a next installment....

Highly recommend.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy in return for an honest review.

Chasing Shadows grabs your attention from the first page and doesnt let go .

Erika Foster is back and she is in fine form.

Not a rule follower is our Erika and you have to love that about her because its always for the good of the case.

The team is called out for a victim found under strange circumstances and while investigating Erika recognizes the man who killed her husband and fellow police officers years ago.

It was interesting to go back and find out what happened to Mark and how it has forever shaped Erika's life and career.

Erika's superiors tell her she has crossed the line when arresting the man in question and she is placed on leave.

That wont stop Erika who will turn the world upside down to get her answers and her team subvertly supports her.

Rob Bryndza takes the reader on a tense journey that will have you crossing your fingers and holding your breath that Erika will prevail.

I love this series and Chasing Shadows is my favourite so to date (until book 10)>

Thanks to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for the privilege of reading and reviewing Chasing Shadaows.

A body found when a ceiling collapses leads to Erica seeing the man that killed her husband and most of her team.
She is forced to take leave pending a physical examination, and does some detective work on her own.
Her team is loyal, and helps out where they can, breaking rules, but getting the job done.

I really like DCI Erika Foster. She is real, she is determined, she is incorruptible and her age does not stop her from being in the line of fire.
Loved this book, and decided sleep can come later, I just had to see how this ended.
Robert Bryndza is a fantastic police procedural author. Have loved every book I have read by him.
Can't wait for the next episode!

5/5 stars.

My dilemma... What do you read after finishing an Erika Foster novel? Well it will be another Erika Foster novel. In my case, there isn't another one to read as I am still waiting for Robert Bryndza to write and publish the next one. As you can expect from Robert Bryndza this book was written brilliantly. Erika has come a long way since we met her in Girl in the Ice. In this novel, she does not disappoint with her brilliant detecting skills in trying to solve the murder of her husband. Without giving much a way I would recommend this book to all Robert Bryndza and Erika Foster fans. A solid five stars from me.

As always, I was so excited for another Erika Foster book, and Chasing Shadows did not disappoint! I really enjoyed how this story revisited the storyline with Mark, and it was great to see Erika confronting and working through her feelings about him. The emotional depth added even more to an already gripping read. I honestly couldn’t put it down — Robert Bryndza’s writing pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t let go.

A huge thank you to NetGalley for the early release copy in exchange for my honest review. I’m already counting down the days until the next Erika Foster book!

I didn't realise just how much I wanted to read this book, until I started to read it. Confused? Allow me to explain. I've been reading the Erika Foster series since the very first book was published. I always wondered about Erika's backstory. I knew some of it, but not the whole story. Now, at last, I do. 🚓
Chasing Shadows is a thrilling read that takes us into the shady world of identity fraud and drug running, alongside murder and police corruption. 🚓
Erika Foster is one of those characters that you either love or hate. I find myself switching between the two because she has a stubborn streak that can sometimes irk me. In Chasing Shadows however, I saw her vulnerable side, and I finally understood her. I'm glad that she got the answers she's waited so long for, but I fear the universe hasn't finished messing with her head.
I'm happy to report that Erika's love interest is still present and correct. I love Igor. He has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint. 😇
So there you have it. Elusive bad guys, corrupt coppers, and a corpse whose identity has everyone flummoxed. Various twists take us from London to Rochdale with a small detour to Wales. Chasing Shadows is a gripping page turner worthy of 5⭐. 🚓
Thanks to Raven Street Publishing and Netgalley for the digital ARC.

Another fantastic book from Robert Bryndza in the Erika Foster series. I couldn’t stop reading and is the best book I have read this year. It could be read as a stand alone but what a treat to discover the whole series. Excellent.

The death of her husband and colleagues has haunted Erika Foster for the last 15 years. When an unexpected contact with the man she is convinced murdered her colleagues no one believes her. The book takes you on a wild ride, with corrupt police, all sorts of roadblocks and twists Erika doesn’t know who can she trust. This is definitely a page turner. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Number nine in the Erika Foster series and yet another page turner.

In this book we get to know the back story of Erika and the reason for her move from Manchester to working with the Met in London.

A really captivating story, fast paced and full of tension, with great characters and a well thought out plot.

The books in this series are good standalones, with only the odd reference to other cases. With the background explanations this book is also a perfect standalone, though why not read the others, they are all very good!!

An exciting read, roll on the next one!

Thank you NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing.

Another amazing book by Robert Bryndza! I love the Erika Foster series and I couldn't put the book down once I started it. In this book, the 9th in the series already, we find out what happened 10 years ago when her husband was killed. Erika comes face ro face with the man who killed him, but she is taken off the case. That doesn't stop her and she keeps digging deeper, in true Erika style. Great book!

This is a follow on of the Erika Foster series which I was desperate to begin reading as soon as I received the arc thanks to NetGalley

Opening scene take us back to Erika’s time in Manchester police force working on the drug bust that went spectacularly wrong resulting in the death of her officer husband and work colleagues and forcing Erika to move away to London. We hear more about what happened in this past event and then see how it comes crashing into Erika’s present day.

DCI Erika Foster and Peterson both arrive separately to a scene where a radiator has crashed through a ceiling revealing a body on a bed to the person in the flat below. Following a lead from the drug dog this then takes Erika and colleague Kate Moss to speak with potential suspect/witness. When arriving at the home to ask questions Erika is confronted with the shock of her life. This then takes her on a journey dealing with the traumatic past and epic conclusion.

Corruption and deception that have prevailed over many years hits Erika hard and has her face some tough decision making all in a way she had never expected

Robert again has written another outstanding book and for me as an avid fan this was a read in one session book! Loved every second, the story flowed and joined dots from Ericka’s past and taking us into the future. This I feel has to be read as a follow on but if you hadn’t read any previous you could still follow the story and thoroughly enjoy it.
Excellent 5 star eagerly anticipated read for me.

ARC REVIEW - CHASING SHADOWS BY ROBERT BRYNDZA

Genre - Crime thriller
Book 9/9 in the DCI Erika Foster Series
Release date 5/6/25

To say that this book brought every kind of expression out of my face is an understatement. I was laughing, smiling, biting my nails, picking my jaw up off the floor and frowning all in one sitting. This series is my all time favourite so when I was approved for an arc copy I was absolutely over the moon. The expertly crafted characters in this series is like visiting old friends with every installment.
Chasing shadows takes us back to where it all began, Erika is unexpectedly faced with her demons in a relentless pursuit of her husband's killer. As Erika begins to investigate her next murder case, the connections she discovers open up old wounds, but not only does she have to prove the identity, it seems she has to also break through the strategically placed barriers of the big wigs in the met. As Bryndza takes us back to Manchester, the dots begin to join and armed with her loyal colleagues who we've come to know and love, Erika embarks on the dangerous journey to justice. Erika is thrust into one of her most chilling cases yet in this fast paced, gripping page turner and I won't give any spoilers away but I can say, I think this is a new favourite of the series for me. I love how Bryndza treats us to a dual timeline and we get to see how Erika's life has moved on with wonderful Igor but is still captivated by the pain of her past. If you're a Bryndza fan, you will LOVE this. If you haven't read any others in the series, I can't recommend it highly enough. This book, as with the others, could be read as a stand alone as Bryndza does tread over old ground putting the facts into context for us, but fans of the series will agree, this is never in a repetitive way. I would of course reccomend starting from the beginning for the best experience.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Raven street publishing for this eagerly anticipated arc and of course, Rob, for never ever failing to deliver. I can't wait for my physical copy of this and more from DCI Erika Foster.

A very easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ten years earlier, Erika Foster was the lead on a drug raid that went horribly wrong, resulting in the death of four officers, one of whom was her husband. The dealer disappeared. Now, she’s come face to face with him. But he has a different name. This starts the incredibly suspenseful ninth book in the series.
The book continues at a fast clip. There’s plenty of tension and suspense. Bryndza doesn’t stint on character development either, as Erika is forced to confront a past she’s tried to avoid dealing with. The plot relies a little too heavily on coincidences but it’s fun entertainment.
Usually I hesitate to say that a book in a long running series would work as a stand-alone. But here, I think it would as a lot of the book harkens back to Erika’s backstory.
My thanks to Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for an advance copy of this book.

Well what can I say Erica has always been one of my favourite characters right back from the first book, I loved this one, finding out a little more about Mark, and Erica's fight for justice for him and his colleagues, blumming brilliant as usual Rob
