THE WIFE’S SILENCE pub date 05.23.25
Another win for Amanda McKinney. ☺️
This is the third thriller I’ve read from her and enjoyed them all- but this one is a favorite! Told in dual POV & dual timeline - you get Lucy’s story now, coming to work as a live-in nanny only to find out it’s for an adult woman (Emelia) who had a stroke, and Emelia before, as she details her tough relationship with her husband Thomas.
This book is so full of emotion that you can feel it. It’s powerful and will have you utterly gripped to the story. You can easily read this in one sitting. From page one I was hooked, and knew throughout that this would be a winner. I loved it. Fans of Verity, The Wife Upstairs, and The Silent Woman will love this.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my ARC.

First, as always - thank you Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC!
The story itself - a young woman - in this case Lucy - taking care of the catatonic wife of some rich man- in this case, Emilia and Thomas - is surely no new one. I do not know about you, but I did still enjoy it nonetheless. Not to mention, every time I do, I am thankful I am not in a state like poor Emilia. I could not live like this, really.
Our story is told in the POV of Emilia and Lucy mainly - and later also a man namen James, I will not tell youz of course who he is, not gonna spoiler anything - and jumping between the past and the present. Here I sometimes had to make sure I did still follow along, but the short chapters and all the twists kept me clued to the book until the end. I do not think I read anything by Amanda McKinney before, but she is surely on my list from now on!

Wow another great book by this author, she definitely takes you on a thrilling ride . The main puzzle that intrigued me was who was Lucy and what was her back story . It didn’t take long to find out . Plenty of twists to this book throughout. Great writing and characters, I’d definitely recommend this book . I can’t wait for the next , 5 stars from me

Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Amanda McKinney for the ARC!
A great read that never slows down! So many twists and turns that leave you questioning each characters motives and next steps. A twisted tale of control and deceit- I couldn’t put it down!
I also really enjoyed that there were secrets and huge reveals not just at the end of the book, but throughout the entire novel. Keeps the reader completely hooked. 4 ⭐️

Wow ! Did I enjoy my time reading this book , it definitely is an up put down able book! The wife’s silence is a psychological thriller about ‘deception , vengeance and the mask we wear to hide the truth‘. At first, I did think the plot line was going to be similar to plenty of other popular books but this book went down its own path and I’m so glad it did as it was such a fun read with unexpected twists and turns. I would highly recommend reading this book!!

This story started out with so much promise but somewhere along the lines it became predictable. The writing style was easy to read. I’m also not sure I would consider this a thriller. The story didn’t feel like that way, more like an survivor to an abusive story

ucy Greer, desperate to rebuild her life and make amends for past mistakes, accepts a job caring for Emilia, the mysteriously catatonic wife of wealthy entrepreneur Thomas Caine. But beneath the surface of the elegant home lies a web of secrets tied to the long-ago disappearance of the Caines’ teenage son. As Lucy gets drawn deeper into the family’s dark past, she realizes that Emilia may hold the key to a chilling truth—and that the perfect facade is about to crumble.
This book was SOOOOOOOOOO good.
I thought it would be something like the Freida McFadden Book - The Wife Upstairs, TOTALLY different! Kept me engaged the entire time, chapters were short and to the point, and the twist, I did not see that coming.
If I can give stars I would!

I enjoyed this book, a very narcistic husband, a wife who apparently had a stroke and a lady who answers an ad as a live in carer. What could possibly go wrong?
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this arc

You know a books good when you have to close it because it freaks you out for a hot second! I was so shocked by this book and how on the edge of my seat it kept me. Absolutely loved it!

I did not see the twists coming. I had to say I was a bit thrown off when all the talk about aura's happened so early in the book, but I get it and I am glad I persevered through that speed bump initially.

What.Did.I.Just.Read? This was a wild and dark ride. But I expect nothing less from the talented Amanda McKinney! The lies, deception and secrets in this one kept me on the edge of my seat. When the final twist came my jaw dropped and I’m pretty sure I gasped so loud my husband was concerned 😂 this is a must read for summer!

I can’t really tell you what the book is about or give you a short synopsis. There are so many things happening in this book and you learn something new every time. There was never a dull moment in the story.
I read this book super fast and I really couldn’t put it down. If you are in a reading slump I would definitely recommend this book. If you are looking for a quick and interesting read I would also recommend this book.
The book is written in dual POV. You meet Lucy who starts a job as a live-in caregiver for this family. On the other side you meet Emilia. You get to meet her and get to know how she got to where she is now and why she needs Lucy as a caregiver. The switches in the timeline and POV were really nice because you learned so many new things that made the story more interesting.
The end and the twists and turns at the end were amazing. Overall I would highly recommend this book. This is the second book I read from Amanda McKinney, and once again she didn’t disappoint. I’m excited to see what she comes with next.

I liked the premise of the book although it was similar to alot of popular books out there. The twist was good but sorta fell a little flat / weird towards the end. I did enjoy it and would check out another book by the author.

An excellent read for any and all readers! Author comes at you with both barrels and knocks you out of your shoes! Great job fleshing out all the characters. I give this book FIVE stars! Definitely recommend!

Damaged men damage. Strong women survive. Or do they?
10 Stars! This dark, mind bending, totally unhinged, edge of your seat thriller is spectacular! It will keep your attention until the very last word. This highly anticipated book from Amanda McKinney makes you continually question yourself as you ask who is good, who is not and what the heck?!. Think you have it all figured out? Bet you don’t! When faced with a life in a prison not of our own making, what would you do to survive?
Highly recommend!

I have mixed feelings about this book. The first few chapters were so similar to Verity that I almost DNF’d this book. It definitely kept me entertained, but I don’t know that I’d suggest this to anyone. The story seemed a little sporadic. Like where did the “seeing auras” tie in? Also the ending was too happy. I think a big twist would’ve had me bumping this up to four stars. Overall not bad, but also, not phenomenal either.

If you’re looking for a psychological thriller that will have you whispering "what the heck is happening?!" at 2 a.m., The Wife’s Silence by Amanda McKinney is your next obsession. This book is dark, addictive, and packed with so many secrets and lies that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
The story follows Lucy Greer, a woman desperate for a fresh start, who lands a job as a caregiver for Emilia Caine—the silent, stroke-ridden wife of wealthy and enigmatic Thomas Caine. From the second Lucy steps into their lavish but eerie home, something feels off. The air is thick with tension, the housekeeper is suspiciously cryptic, and the Caines’ past is shadowed by the unsolved disappearance of their teenage son years ago. Emilia, trapped in her own mind, knows the truth… but with Lucy digging deeper, the carefully constructed façade begins to crumble.
Let me just say—this book delivers on suspense. McKinney masterfully builds an atmosphere that’s equal parts gothic and modern thriller, with a setting that feels like its own sinister character. The dual timelines and multiple POVs kept me guessing, and the short, punchy chapters made it impossible to stop at just one. (Seriously, I read this in one sitting because how could I sleep without knowing the truth?)
What I loved most was how McKinney played with perception. And the twists? Chef’s kiss. I had my theories (because, of course, I’m a self-proclaimed thriller detective), but the final reveals still hit me like a ton of bricks.
If you’re into:
✔️ Unreliable narrators
✔️ Creepy, atmospheric settings
✔️ Family secrets that could ruin lives
✔️ Endings that make you gasp out loud
…then The Wife’s Silence needs to be on your TBR. It’s the kind of book that lingers in your mind long after you finish, and I’m already itching to reread it just to catch all the clues I missed the first time.
5/5 stars for keeping me up way past my bedtime. Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC.

When Lucy Greer is hired by Thomas Caine, to care for his ailing wife, Emilia. She discovers she is working for a family with secrets
On the surface, things seem perfect, they are successful despite Emilias illness, but tragedy has struck, their son vanished years ago, and now Lucy is trying to discover the secrets and lies about the family.
This pacy thriller is a good read. it has many twists and I really enjoyed my reading time..

Wow, what a story! Lucy is hired by Thomas Caine as a live-in carer for his wife Emilia. From the start, Lucy feels as though things aren't quite right. Why is Emilia so heavily sedated? Why does Thomas allow his ex-wife to live in the house for weeks on end? What happened to their son, James? Well, you'll have to read this one to find out! Some jaw-dropping twists and surprising revelations await. An absolute page turner that I blazed through.
Thanks to Netgalley, Storm Publishing, and Amanda McKinney for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.

Wow, this is exactly how to keep written tension building. From the start its unputdownable and i read it greedily. To me it was also wildly original and gripping.
