Love the premise of this thriller. Suspicious and unpredictable characters, red herrings and twists.

It is a serious page turner and quite engrossing. The storyline is well written and makes the reader doubt what's happening. An enjoyable read!

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange for my unbiased review.

“A house cursed with tragedy. A family plagued by loss. Surely lightening doesn’t strike in the same place twice.”

Suzanna is convinced her husband is having an affair with the nanny he hired to help their family. She finds a long blond hair matching the nanny’s description on her pillowcase and from there begins to convince herself that all her suspicions are true.

But Suzanna is struggling. Struggling to adapt to life following the loss of her baby, which she blames herself for. Struggling with her 4 year old child Noah who won’t speak to her. Struggling with the breakdown of her marriage.

After a turbulent time with the new nanny, Reka, Suzanna feels that she is trying to take not only her husband but also her son. However, when Noah has a freak accident in the garden under Reka’s watch she is nowhere to be found. Where has the nanny gone?

I feel like every character in this book is an unreliable narrator and I absolutely love it! The mystery, suspense and anticipation were being built right from the off and as the novel twists and turns each character becomes more suspicious. The short chapters, from different characters perspectives, really keeps the story moving and just when you think you have the story worked out, then comes the twist.

My only criticism, which isn’t even a criticism, was that this book just felt very short. I read this in under 24 hours which is testament to the story however I felt like it needed to keep going. I just enjoyed it that much! This really was one that I didn’t want to put down and coming from someone that really struggles reading electronically I think that says a lot about the book.

When I saw this was perfect for fans of Shari Lapena I knew this would be the perfect read for me.

4/5⭐️

Tw - child/infant death was a heavy theme throughout this book alongside postnatal depression/psychosis

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for sending me this copy.

The Woman in Our Marriage by Victoria Jenkins is another twisty, binge-worthy tale that will immediately pull you into an emotional vortex.

Suzanna is grieving the unimaginable loss of her infant daughter, becoming emotionally unavailable to her husband and young son. Hiring nanny Reka seems to be the answer to filling that void for her son. Soon, however, Suzanna begins to suspect an affair between her husband and the nanny, but she has, after all, been heavily medicated. Are her perceptions to be trusted, or are they distorted by a lens of grief?

I love a narrative that calls the protagonist's reliability into question, and Ms Jenkins was more than successful at keeping me guessing.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

I love Victoria Jenkins writing style. Her books are always short and to the point. They have plenty of twists and killer endings.

The book starts very intense, a great start to draw you in. The author did an amazing job of infusing just enough doubt in her writing of the MFC to leave you second-guessing. I would have loved to see more family interaction with Reka to build that reader connection.

It should be noted that infant death is a common theme throughout the book.

I had really high hopes for this book and the beginning is certainly enough to hook you in, but eventually I almost chose not to finish it. The red herrings are so trope-y that it’s really not hard to figure out what is going on. There is not enough backstory to make me invested in or give too much thought to the outcome even though you can see it coming pretty early. I do think Suzanna’s grief seems well-written, although thankfully I don’t know for myself how it feels to lose a child, but I absolutely felt her pain right along with her. I think this needs an intense trigger warning about infant death and grief when it is released. There’s a French horror movie called High Tension and the ending reminded me a lot of that movie. It certainly leaves you on a creepy edge but overall disappointing.

Suzanna suffered a terrible loss. Her infant daughter died, and Suzanna is emotionally unavailable.
Her four year old son, Noah has stopped talking.
Suzanna suspects that her husband, Matthew, is having an affair with the Hungarian nanny, Reka.
Suzanna's therapist, Jess finds that Suzanna could be taking too much medication.

Oh, this is such a sad and emotional book! Definitely a page turner!
My heart went out to Noah, especially when Suzanna couldn't bring herself to hug him.

Twists galore and red herrings and secrets. This book will hook the reader from the first page.

The Woman in Our Marriage is a AMAZING psychological crime thriller!

Please read trigger warning for this book!!! There is some topics that maybe difficult for some readers

OMG!!! This book is fantastic! I don't know if I have ever read a prolog that had me so hooked that I knew this was about to be a 5star read. If you want a book that you won't want to put down then RUN and add this to your TBR!! This book is filled with twists that have you questing everything, and everyone. There were a few times I assumed I knew what was going on then bam another twist. The closer I got to the end the more it was like oh ok I see what's happening.

This is another new to me author and she did not let me down one bit! I can't wait to read more of her books!

I agree, this book was blah. There was really nothing there. A nanny dies. Someone is being drugged to take their kid away. Gaslighting. It's been done and there was no suspense to me. I didn't even get through more than a few chapters and then turned to the end.

This was... not good. I had really high hopes for this thriller but it didn't live up to the mark at all. The mystery and suspense is amped up wayyy too quickly and hardly gives the reader a chance to become properly invested into the story and characters. It was predictable, boring and just far too over the top from the start. Disappointing!!

Absolutely fantastic book! I was hooked from the prologue. Characters were brilliant. I didn't see the twists coming at all, which made me love the book even more. There were parts in this book which were heartbreaking, what the main couple and there son had been through. Will definitely be reading more by this author. Thanks so much Netgalley and Bookouture for letting me read this for an honest review.

This is a really solid thriller but also deals with the loss of a child, something no-one should ever have to go through. It had some good twists, and I truly thought I'd figured it out. I love Victoria's novels and this is another great read.

When you lose a child as a parent, it's as if the earth has stopped turning. Of course, it's a huge blow for both parents, but perhaps it's just a little different for a mother. After all, she carried the child for nine months, and that creates a special bond. It's also often the case that fathers throw themselves into work, while for mothers, that’s usually not as straightforward.

In this story, it's impossible for Suzanna to continue her usual activities as a mother or as a wife, and that’s why her husband Matthew decides to hire a nanny to make things a little easier for her. But sometimes, even the best-intentioned plans can end in tragedy.

It's clear how much Suzanna is suffering from the loss, and the more she tries to work on feeling better, the worse she ends up feeling. Gradually, she begins to lose the ability to distinguish reality from imagination...

You also get a sense of distrust toward the nanny. She’s almost too good to be true. Can she be trusted, or is she playing a dirty game?

And then there’s Matthew. Is he real, or is he fake?

This book has a great mix of emotion and suspense. The reveal of the mystery was surprising to me because I was on a completely different track.

I found the setting interesting, and the characters had good depth.
I really enjoyed this book. 5 stars
Thank you
