Are you looking for a quick and easy horror manga? Look no further. This story was a little mystery; I wanted to know what had happened to the fmc and what situations she would encounter to understand her situation. Even though it was quite fast-paced, finding two people she could trust and rely on was heartwarming. Having only gotten a glimpse into the supernatural world they inhabit, I’m excited to read the next volume.

Thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press, I received an ARC for an honest review!

A beautiful exploration of trauma and loneliness with a perfect balance of humor. I adored the main characters and their little family that they created amongst themselves. It was honestly such a delight to read and I personally would love to see more from this monster motley crew!

This story was a little outside of my comfort zone. I was attracted to this book by the cover! I know I know!! Don’t judge a book by its cover!
Meat Eater’s is a Graphic Novel, about a girl who is “reanimated,” and does everything she can to appear human. She discovers that there are other creatures out there like werewolves and vampires, and somehow becomes the “mother” to two teenage werewolves. What results is a funny gory story helping these two navigate life, while trying to figure out if she is a zombie killer.
This was an ARC provided by NetGalley, and it was a nice change from my normal reads. The art was well done and easy to follow. The story was gory and fun., which I love. I loved that the werewolves were presented in a funny refreshing way, almost childlike.
I would recommend for those who like horror, comic books and graphic novels.

#50 "Meat Eaters" was a REALLY interesting graphic novel about the undead. It gave me big Santa Clarita Diet vibes. In a good way. But really, it reminded me of me and my friends, in our twenties, trying to learn how to be "normal" like our peers... 🥲

Great characters.

Beautigul art.

Gripping story.

I'm obsessed.

This was wholesome, gross, wierd, funny and touching. A great book that deserves a the love! I loved it.

This was cute. So very cute. Touching, hit on somewhat heavy subject matter at times.

The art was so good and the story flowed well. There were no parts where I paused or had to reread, it was all smooth sailing and really a delight to look at each page.

Emotional in such a good way, seeing the relationship between Ashley and her, 'family,' as well as herself was really something. This story took, 'horrid monsters,' and made them human. You have this zombie struggling with being a zombie, with 'human,' emotions and with the responsibility of new furry monster friends who were adorable.

Something about seeing gore done in this style was also cute in the weirdest way.

Just all around a good light but goreful read.

Meat Eaters follows the story of Ashley, a 19 year old college student who wakes up one day undead and craving meat. She randomly stumbles upon some vampires who suss her out and point her in the direction of a bar where paranormal creatures hang out, and she's info dumped with Undead 101. Then she stumbles upon two werewolves who are in trouble and she helps them. Then the werewolves decide to make her their friend. Then there are murders happening, and maybe a monster in the woods? but that's kind of whatever because Ashley is hungry all the time and listless and unsure about life and somehow creating a found family with her werewolf friends.

Things just happen in this graphic novel.

It doesn't feel like there's any real propelling story line that brings us along. It was, ultimately, pretty boring.

The art is fine. The strongest aspect of it is the color work, which does a lot to really create a dreamlike haze that represents Ashley's state of mind. It unfortunately doesn't really save the story itself.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for the eARC!

This took me a little to get into at first and at times I wondered if I'd missed a page, but I quickly loved the story and relationships, and would happily read more of this delightful found family - I didn't want it to end! This was brimming with humour, love, and mystery and was a great quick read.

A really wonderful debut graphic novel. Has my favorite topics, body horror and trauma. The art is smooth and expressive, so the scary parts art not too gory if this is your first horror comic. Great for teens and young adult readers. I really loved how the story unveiled this underground world of creeps. And the emotional parts where Ashley is dealing with her trauma really hit home for me. Also really loved the chaotic found family scenes.

I have been a fan of Meredith McClaren’s art since she worked with Kelly Thompson on Heart in a Box so I was very excited when NetGalley and Oni Press gave me the opportunity to read an ARC, and it did not disappoint! I already have a pre-order in for a physical copy.

19 year old loner Ashley wakes up dead, which was not part of her plan to get free of the small town that she lives in. She soon finds herself navigating a hidden underworld of supernatural beings, learning new rules for survival and making friends along the way.

The book is full of heart (sometimes literally!) with friendships blossoming, and genuinely funny and touching moments throughout the book. This provides a nice balance to the main thrust of the story, which is about the evils in the world, trauma, and the struggle of moving on from it.

Meredith McClaren’s art and colour style is beautiful. It is quirky and cute, and if it wasn’t for the blood and gore would make for delightful children’s book illustrations. Please check your trigger warnings, while I didn’t find anything in the book harrowing, and everything was well-handled with nothing gratuitous, there is death, absent parents, blood and gore, spiders (sort of!) and (off page) sexual assault

If the front cover turns you off, then you won't make it far.

Man, did I love this. The artwork is stellar, the story is cool and interesting, I adored the vibrant bloody scenes. This is one I look forward to owning personally! I haven't read any of the author's other work, but now I'm looking forward to reading Black Cloak for more artwork.

Thanks to Netgalley and Oni Press for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Illustration/ Art Style: 3/5
Story Overall: 2.5/5

If I’m being honest, I didn’t care for the art style initially. It slowly grew on me— in a similar way that the story did. There was a disconnect from the cover art that captured my attention and the actual panel art the book consisted off. While I do think the art amongst the pages aligns with the tone of the story, it also contributed to the book feeling more cutesy than I desired.

Meat Eaters has an interesting concept here, but the best part of this book was the ending. It spends too much time in the emotional delivery of the “coming of age” trope that we don’t get to fully connect with the characters or plot overall. I ended the book wishing there was more intensity and depth.

Overall, I don’t have much to say in regard to this graphic novel. It was a quick read that was enjoyable enough to finish, but not one that will stick with me.

Thank you to Oni Press and Netgalley for access to this digital galley.

Meat Eaters had a cool concept and striking art, but the story felt rushed and hard to follow. I liked the found-family angle, but the world-building and emotional moments didn’t fully land. Interesting idea, just not fully realized—2 stars.

The plot twist (or actually, truth being revealed) was so random and clashed with the whole concept of the book. I'm sorry, either I'm clearly not the targeted audience and completely missed the point or the clash was just too drastic.

I loved the art style in this and the bold use of color to further the story telling but everything felt very basic and lacked a lot of depth and exploration especially considering just how dark a lot of the undertones were. I was really into the found family friend group who was there to support our main character. It felt oddly wholesome for the type of story that we were getting but enjoyable nonetheless.

Love the setting, but just feel like there are certain parts that should be developed even more. I like that the main character’s arc or what she became isn’t the typical vampire/werewolf and is actually something I did not quite expect. Overall, this was a very interesting read.

When I go looking in the manga section, I tend to lean towards Horror, so was excited for this! The art style itself is very good, very muted colors to represent how the characters are feeling, and very bright when out in the woods enjoying nature. The main character Ashley is relatable, no parent around, just trying to escape a small town, when things happen that makes it near impossible to escape said town.

The plot itself was kind of all over the place, but I felt like it was just how scatter-brained Ashley was being about her issues that caused it to be that way.

The only issues I had with the story was that she went to look for Bess and get an undead 101, but when the shit really hit the fan, she never went back, or asked for help from the "real adults". I get that she was trying to hide like how bad she was or how bad her hungry was making her, but Bess and the others know way more than her and she just didn't use that resource.

This book is hard to categorize. It’s a monster novel. It’s a zombie novel. It is definitely about things that go bump in the night. It’s about not liking yourself too. Who you are or who you want to be and how to get along in society. At times the story is a little hard to follow and a tad convoluted, but overall everything taken together, the book works. It’s an interesting story that gives you turning page after page.
