This book is everything a rom-com should be! 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽 I laughed (literally out loud) at least a dozen times, there were plot twists (the best kind), I shed a few sweet tears and stayed up way too late reading this!

Some people read to escape reality (definitely been here), but a good book has the power to actually help you see and enjoy the world around you MORE. This book does just that! It left me smiling and feeling thankful. The characters were far from perfect and they felt real in the best way possible.

And the cherry on top of all this (at least for me)? This book was closed-door (zero sexual content) and had basically zero language—unless you count “what the fork” as cursing 😆 There is definitely steam (attraction, kissing), but no spice.

I’ve read so many rom-com novels and I RARELY give them 5 ⭐️, but this one absolutely earned it!

Eleanor – Ellie is a 28 year old, single mom and seems to have her life set up for her now after restarting in a small town. Ollie, the grumpy old man that took them in has passed away and she finds out he left her everything. Well, almost everything. 50% of everything, because the other half is going to his grandson, Gilbert that no one has hear of. The man that gave her a job at his cafe and a place for her son, Oliver and her to call home had basically been her saving grace. Except for the part where he leaves in his will that Gilbert must come and live with them for 6 months to get their shares.

Ellie was my absolute favourite part of this book. Seeing ADHD represented in a book has become more common, but I feel like it’s only brushed on and never shared to the full extent that it affects people. The way Gilbert listens, supports and shows up for her is absolutely amazing. The side characters were so well developed and made the small town feel of the book so wholesome.

I really loved the start of each chapter where it was a kid answering what they thought love way. SO CUTE. The ending was adorable, but felt rushed.

Such a fantastic read! Grabbed my attention right away and I didn't want to put it down. The romance was sweet and I fell in love with everyone in Two Harts. The stakes were clear and natural, and the romance never felt forced. Absolutely loved all the sticky notes between Ellie and Gil. The perfect summer read!

The Fix-Up by Sharon M. Peterson is everything you want in a romantic comedy clever banter, undeniable chemistry, and characters you can’t help but root for. But what makes this story stand out is its emotional core it’s as much about healing and selfworth as it is about falling in love.

The plot kicks off with a classic “fake relationship” setup, but Peterson quickly breathes new life into the trope. The dynamic between the leads is electric funny, awkward, tender and their slow-burn romance is both satisfying and swoon-
worthy. There’s just enough angst to make the happy moments hit harder, without ever tipping into melodrama.

Peterson’s writing is witty and warm, with dialogue that feels natural and situations that are lol funny but still grounded in emotional truth. The protagonist’s journey navigating past hurt, self-doubt, and trust issues adds depth that makes the romantic payoff all the sweeter.

A few pacing hiccups toward the end keep it just shy of a full five stars, but they don’t diminish the overall charm and impact.

This book was so incredibly sweet to read, It gave off major Gilmore Girls vibes. Single mum just putting her life back together with the support of her new village. It was so relatable to my own life, kiddo with same name, I also bake, and have similar aspirations that the FMC has. Kiddos dad even has the same musical history has kiddos bio dad in the book(But I am lucky enough to be living my HEA with him!)

I think one of my favorite things, because it was the MOST relatable, was their casual way of writing notes back and forth to one another during their time together. You can really see how they fall for each other despite the situation they were forced into. I fell in love with Gil almost immediately, he is truly a gentleman, someone I am positive single mums everywhere will also fall for. He's the man you want to bring home to meet your kids one day, and the type of man who would be great to have in your life, as a friend or love..

I would definitely recommend this to a friend, especially one looking for a lighthearted, shortish read, It made me feel warm and fuzzy.

So I've read alllll of Sharon's books and I'm her ride or die. I'll read her next one and I'll keep reading them.
Unfortunately this wasn't my favorite book from her. The premise was there and I loved the story.
She still has her style with adding the fun chapter headings (knowing my son was one of them makes me smile!).
Oliver was absolutely adorable and reminded me of my own son. I loved the quirky side characters, potentially more than the main characters.
I wanted to like Ellie. And at parts, I did. But overall, I NEEDED her to just accept that she can't do everything. You moved to this small town to start over. Now you have family who WANT to help you. Let them! She's incredibly stuck in the past and hung up on the choices that got her to this point versus accepting them and moving on.
Gil didn't really have a personality. I feel like he was supposed to be a swoon-worthy MMC, but he wasn't. He showed the most emotion when he had a migraine.
Finally, they just really didn't have chemistry until the very end.I didn't feel the tension.

Again, I will continue to read her books because I have loved every other one. I still enjoyed this one, it just wasn't my favorite.

[ This is my first time reading the work of this particular author and I found it to be a cute, rom com with the intention of a grumpy sunshine meets age gap meets a sprinkle of enemies to lovers. It’s also ranking a cero on the spice meter if that matters to anyone, be warned that I should circle the cute that was previously mentioned.

Ellie is a slight basket case (in a funny way) single mom who lives for her son Oliver and goes through life doing her best. On the other hand, Gil is used to doing his best and being a caretaker so to no one’s surprise, they both find their forced proximity to be more than expected.

This book was a solid read with no spice but funny enough to keep the reader entertained. Oliver is adorable and even though I couldn’t quite finish liking Ellie, her character is solid. I just felt like she came across as a little selfish at first and also a bit lose on the idea of boundaries with a stranger once he was inside of the house. Gil started off very bland and I felt like there wasn’t much substance to his character but you could catch redeeming glimpses of a cinnamon roll character the more you delved into the plot line. Once you do go further into the book, probably past the 55% mark, you see a little more maturity in Ellie and most of it is a direct reaction to her going to therapy with Sunny. Speaking of Sunny, for someone who is very much a background character, she is mentioned a lot but the interactions are minimal.

By the end of the book, I was able to connect more with Ellie and understand her personality and actions as well as Gil’s way of thinking and the pressure on him to be a caretaker even when that is his love language. I did feel like their chemistry was non existent and mostly a result of a forced proximity and Ellie just really wanting to settle down. (hide spoiler)]

Overall, a solid 3 star read for those who like no smut in their romance and a hero who will silently love out loud though his actions as well as a heroine who has the personality of a golden retriever

Sweet? Yes. Hilarious? Yes. Heart-warming? YES. This was such a lovely story about two strangers who find themselves stuck together for six months in order to gain their share of an inheritance. Ellie is kind but firm about her boundaries, even making Gil stay in the yard at first because she worries about having a stranger around her son. And Gil is both thoughtful and respectful of her wishes, even as they clash heads over what to do with this house they both own half of. I read this while dealing with a very bad cold, and it was the perfect cozy read while snuggled up in blankets. I definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy a sweet romance with a good dash of humor.

This was a great book filled with witty banter and a forced proximity trope. When Ellie learns that she has inherited a cafe and a home she is elated that she can continue to live in Two Harts with her son. Two Harts has given her a new start to life and the community was just what she needed in her start over. Little did she know she was was not the only one to inherit the cafe and home. Gil, the Grandson of the homeowner, has come to lay claim on his portion of the home. Gil is looking more into the sale of the cafe and home and the money that will bring in or will he change his mind?

Ellie and her son start to become and mean more to Gil than he expected? Will he change his mind about the money or will greed and money ruin his chances at a once in a lifetime relationship?

If you want some good humor or need a good laugh this book is for you!

Yay for being back in the small town of Two Harts! Enjoyed getting Ellie’s story and seeing her come into her own as a mom and business owner. I love the way Sharon writes the small moments of tension, the shoulder brush, the hair tuck…so many soft sigh moments that I loved! I had a little trouble getting invested in bigger moments of the romance and would have loved more time with the MMC, Gilbert, because I really liked him and wanted to know him more! Ellie was written beautifully real as a single mom with ADHD. I think (maybe?), at times, the humor took away from how amazing she was because but I found myself a little annoyed at times despite her being pretty awesome. Regardless, Sharon made me laugh, swoon and wonder if we’ll get another Two Harts small town story (looking at you, Iris).

I love the single dad/mom trope and this did not disappoint!! I mean romance is good but when you see the child being so attached to the guy??! I mean come on you, I live for this💗💗
This is kind of a slow burn (another one of my fav tropes) and it was well written
I read this book in one setting and I’m so glad I did
It’s a spice free romance feel good novel and I was here for it!
The representation of ADHD and others mental disorders were so well written and I could really identify with the characters 💕
I will say one thing, it’s not really ennemies to lovers, yes they don’t really like each other at the beginning and there is banter that I love! But I didn’t really feel the ennemies part :/

I devoured The Fix Up in under 48 hours—it was exactly the cosy, emotional comfort read I didn’t know I needed. If you love a grumpy/sunshine dynamic in a small-town setting with just enough emotional depth to make you laugh and then unexpectedly cry, this one’s for you.

The ADHD representation in the FMC was spot-on and handled with care. As someone familiar with the topic, I really appreciated how nuanced it was—never reduced to a stereotype or used for comic relief. There were also subtle hints that her 6-year-old son might be neurodiverse too, and the way that was portrayed felt authentic and gentle without being heavy-handed.

There were moments that made me laugh out loud and one particular scene that had me full-on crying—my heart broke with hers, and that emotional payoff was beautifully earned. The depiction of grief was real, and respectful, making the romance all the more satisfying.

Highly recommend if you’re into emotionally grounded romance with neurodiverse rep, small-town charm, and a hero who’s grumpy in all the best ways.

Id never heard of this author before but am adding her other books to my tbr.

Book Review: The Fix Up by Sharon Peterson

Okay grab your snacks, your favourite hoodie, and maybe a mug of something warm that makes you feel like the main character, because we’ve got a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers kinda ARC read to discuss.

Let’s start with our FMC: Ellie.
I wanted to like you straight off the bat, I really did—but I’ll be honest, you came in a little too hot. We get it, life has beat you up, spit you out.. You’ve got your walls up, your resting grump face on, and your guard dog energy is front and center. But also… could you maybe not be so rude to literally everyone?? I was like, “Ma’am, I know you’ve got ADHD chaos brewing beneath that snark, but can we just chill?” But we redeemed half way through she settled and we got there in the end.

Ohhhh the tropes
✨ Enemies to Lovers vibes
✨ Forced proximity … still no real explanation on the why but that’s okay
✨ One-bed-but-make-it-house-share I had a giggle

Now onto the MMC. Gilbert
Bless this cinnamon roll of a man.
He shows up, doesn’t demand space, just sets up his tent like a chill little woodland man and minds his business while being lowkey the emotional support man we all deserve. No arguing, no toxic alpha-male ego, just good old-fashioned genuine human decency. He meets Ellie’s son Oliver and I MELTED.

The book’s main schtick is character growth, especially Ellie’s journey from “I push everyone away because trauma” to “okay fine maybe love doesn’t suck.” Watching her soften? Like watching a grumpy cat reluctantly purring in your lap. Slow. Rewarding. Worth it.

Now… can we talk about the “I had a baby young” thing? Yes, we got it. After the seventh reminder.. It was clearly important, but we were being smothered in it.

Also—plot twist—no spice.
Not even a little sprinkle of cinnamon in the slow-burn stew. BUT IT WORKED. I was surprised. I didn’t miss the spice because the emotional core was strong, the slow development made sense, and the pacing felt like a movie that lets you marinate in the feels before the kiss. (Yes, there is kissing. You’re not left totally high and dry, don’t panic.)

If you want healing, growth, a man in a tent, and the smallest sprinkle of found family charm, give The Fix Up a go.
Just… prepare to be reminded several times that Ellie had a baby young. You know. In case you forget. 😅

A great light easy read.
When single mum Ellie and her young son moved to Two Hearts, little did she know that their lives would change drastically.
The story brings love, laughter, community spirit and a general sense of belonging, especially when you've no self esteem.
I've not read this author before but I definitely enjoyed her writing style.

I'm a sucker for a good romance and this book nailed it (no pun intended). I've never read anything from this author before, but I really enjoyed her writing style. I loved all the characters. This book kept me wanting to keep reading. You know a book is good when you don't want it to end, or you want a sequel.

This book was a sweet, easy read. Ellie is a single mom who has not had good luck in the dating world. Ollie, the owner of a cafe and home where she has been living, passes away and leaves them to her. Little does she know that she has only inherited half of them when his long lost grandson, Gilbert, suddenly comes forward. They have to live together for 6 months in order to fulfill the terms of the will. It was fun to see the relationship between Ellie and Gil progress as they did not like each other at the beginning. I loved how Gil was such a good role model to Oliver, Ellie's son. It was definitely a slow burn, but the payoff at the end was worth it.

Sharon M. Peterson’s FMC never disappoint in being completely hilarious and Ellie was no exception. I would have loved this one to be dual POV because I’m sure Gilbert spent 3/4 of the book completely confused by Ellie and how her brain works, which is of course why he couldn’t let her go! Their story of being forced together in order to meet the requirements to inherit the house and land made for some interesting interactions. Thankfully sweet little Oliver, and his love of dinosaurs and Valentines, was there to smooth any rough points and continue to force them together. This story was so cute and the perfect addition to the Two Harts series. If you haven’t read any books by Sharon M. Peterson, now it the time to start! All of her books are interconnected standalones, so just grab one and start laughing!

A wonderful read!
This novel drew me in from the very first page and kept me hooked until the end. The characters were vibrant and relatable, the writing was engaging, and the story had just the right balance of heart and humor. Highly recommend!

Ellie Sterns is a twenty-eight year old with ADHD, and the mother of a six year old called Oliver. After an unremarkable career as an actress, and numerous short-lived romances, she was en route to her family home in Oklahoma when she stopped briefly in the town of Two Harts to see her brother and ended up staying. The local diner owner, grumpy Ollie, took pity on Ellie and gave her a job and a place to stay. Ollie has recently died and Ellie has been keeping things going as best she can, when she gets the amazing news that Ollie has left her the house and the diner. Unfortunately, Ollie only left her 50%, the other half has been left to his previously unknown grandson. The kicker is that to inherit the two of them must live in the house for six months.

The grandson, Gilbert, wants to sell and get out of Two Harts as quickly as he can, he doesn't understand why Ollie abandoned his wife and daughter and never got in contact with them when they were alive, an inheritance means nothing to him. Ellie on the other hand, has put down roots, the inheritance safeguards her job and her home, she'll resist any move to sell either of them, even if the local property developer is offering a vast sum for the large plot of land on which the house sits.

This is a classic, opposites-attract, enemies-to-love, small-town romance. After being very grumpy and leaving some less than enthused reviews recently this was a breath of fresh air. Yes it trod a familiar path, but it was fun, sweet, and an easy read.
