"Good Girls Don't Cry" written by D.K. Hood is so fantastic. This book had me totally absorbed from the first page—it's a serious page-turner! The story is so gripping and addictive that I found myself holding my breath at every twist and turn. Detectives Kane and Alton keep you on the edge of your seat with their thrilling investigation. If you love suspenseful mysteries that you can’t put down, this one’s for you! Highly recommend.

I enjoyed reading this book thank you @netgalley & @bookouture for the ARC. I feel as though I can’t give an entirely accurate review though as it was part of a long series so I had difficulty figuring out who was who as they alternated calling the characters by their first or last name only. But I really did enjoy the plot and all the characters. I love how Olivia took leadership in such a frightening situation and tried to calm the girls. It is such great representation of hard will, resourcefulness and bravery.

The story opens with a group of high schoolers in a limo thinking that they are going to their prom, but they don’t make it. You, the reader, are taken through the beginning and the end for some, and then the discovery of the missing limo. Now Jenna, who is pregnant and still wants to be involved with the investigation, works with her team along with her husband Dave to find the remaining girls, and she wants the person or persons who took them. A very suspenseful book that has many different parts, but it all works, including her pregnancy. An excellent story, and I like how the author has added new characters over the years.

Another solid mystery in this series. In the late stages of her pregnancy Jenna has a hard time letting her team work the case on their own especially knowing they are dealing with a case involving teenagers.
It’s Prom night and a limo of teens doesn’t make it to the prom, and disappears. The clock is ticking to save as many of them as possible. Fast passed and not put down able … oh and the end…. Eeee!

Ten friends, dressed up and travelling to their prom
But where did the blood of the driver come from?
The limousine never reaches their school,
Is this a prank? Who're they hoping to fool?

A time of celebration becomes frighteningly fraught
With a serial killer determined to kill, not be caught.
The driver and five boys were the first victims to be found
But where are the girls, are any clues around?

With Jenna going to give birth soon, too,
She wants the killer caught before she's due.
But keeping safe is part of what she needs to do.
But finding the girls is important, too.

A horrific story, a terrible crime thriller
As events unfold, revealing a frightening killer.
With nature thwarting efforts and other dangers, too,
This is a suspense filled thriller I highly recommend to you.

For my copy of this book I say a huge thank you
As I share with you this, my honest review.

Prom Night – the glitz, the glamour, the girlie get-ready-together, the limos with dates. The American high school dream. But this is Black Rock Falls!!

This is an ordeal the families will never forget. Prom night is a celebration and release of the year’s achievements but for ten families it’s a nightmare as their teens are kidnapped by a psycho! But it wouldn’t a simple case if it comes from D K Hood! She’s set her fictional Sheriff’s department tasks and a half with this one.

There is so much about this book I want to talk about but if you’re not up with the series, I don’t want to spoil it. Let’s just say, I felt the frustrations on of my favourite characters was going through, the limitations place on them trying to solve this tricky case.

The chapters with the missing teens were chilling. The kidnapper is just so unnerving with their fake friendliness. I’d be totally on edge and a subordinate if it was me – you’d want to live right and if it’s doing the bidding of a psychopath, you would!!

Another hard hitting case for D. K. Hood with, as I’ve come to expect, the non-work lives of my sheriff’s department interwoven to the narrative. Bring on book 27 – OMG how have we got to book 26?!?!?

I have not read any other books in this series, but I was pleased with this one. It was fast-paced and kept my attention. I was sucked in from the prologue when a limo of teens headed to prom is hijacked. From then I had to know what would happen to them and who/if they would be saved.

Jenna is 9 months pregnant at the start of this book and because of that, when a bunch of teenagers go missing on their way to the prom, she is unable to get as fully involved as she normally would. She trusts her team though and when they find the limo crashed into a river, it puts a lot of wheels in motion.....

I can't believe that this is book 26 already!! I have read most of them and enjoyed them all. My favourite part is getting to know the characters as we go along and with Jenna being very pregnant in this one, I was hoping that we would get a birth somewhere in there. The author didn't disappoint :)

This is a particularly nasty case for the team to be working on. 10 teenagers, and they have to figure out why they were taken, what has happened to the missing ones and work out who could be responsible for such terrible crimes as the bodies keep on mounting up.

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

In Good Girls Don’t Cry, ten teens on their way to prom mysteriously vanish when their limo detours into the forest. Soon after, five of the boys are found dead and the girls are missing, triggering a frantic search led by Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team.

This was my first book in the Kane and Alton series, and while I did enjoy parts of it, the story didn’t completely work for me. The setup was intense and the premise definitely grabbed my attention, but the police procedural elements felt flat and didn’t pull me in the way I hoped. Some parts of the investigation lacked depth or urgency, which made it harder to stay fully invested.

That said, I really enjoyed reading from the perspective of one of the captured girls. It added some emotional weight and tension to the story. The pacing kept me turning the pages, but overall, the plot felt a bit predictable, and the characters didn’t leave a strong impression.

Still, I can see the appeal for fans of fast-paced thrillers with creepy small-town vibes. I might give an earlier book in the series a try before deciding if this series is for me.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

4.5⭐

Kane and Alton are back in another gripping instalment. With Jenna nearing her due date, her husband and colleague, Dave remain on high alert.

But when a call comes in about ten teenagers who never made it to prom and whose limo has disappeared, Jenna can't just sit back and do nothing. So she joins Dave and the rest of the team in launching a search. Soon, they find the limo in a ravine. However, when the driver is discovered nearby and it's clear he's been murdered, Jenna realises this situation is far more serious than a mere accident.

And as Kane and FBI Agent Carter venture into the ravine, Jenna's worst fears are confirmed: all five boys reported missing are dead, either drowned or shot, and the five girls they were with are nowhere to be found.

So what has happened to them?

Just as this question arises, body parts are discovered at the ski resort, leading the team to realise this killer is taunting them and they must act quickly if they hope to bring the remaining girls home alive.

However, this proves to be challenging, especially with Jenna on the verge of giving birth and a killer who delights in reminiscing about past crimes in gruesome detail.

And with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. This was a brilliant read and I love how the team is expanding as the series develops, and I can’t wait to see what Kane and Alton get up to next.

Thank you for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

When I started reading, I didn't realize this was the 26th book in the series, and I haven't read any of the previous installments. While there were mentions of past events that I expected to be explored further, the author did an excellent job of providing just enough detail to create intrigue without making me feel lost.

The book immediately dives into a horrific scene and maintains relentless suspense throughout, delivering a truly thrilling experience. I finished it in less than 24 hours, and at one point, I had to take a break because I was so emotionally invested in the story and its characters.

If you're looking for a captivating summer read, this series is a fantastic choice! I'm now excited to go back and read the entire series from the beginning.

Another amazing addition to this series. As usual the villain is totally unexpected & perfectly vile. You absolutely have to finish this in one setting; it is too hard to put down. Love it, love it, love it. I cannot wait for the next one!

Wow!
This starts out with a real bang!
Book 26 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series has Jenna at the end of her pregnancy while trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of teenagers heading to their Prom.
Talk about sick individuals…this story has got to be up there in the gasp out loud level.
It seems like Black Rock Falls is continuing to be a town that attracts killers. Are they ever going to catch a break????
I love catching up with Jenna, Kane, and their team. We didn’t see too much of their adopted son in this story.
Each book in the series is suspenseful and intriguing. And….each story is definitely CREEPY!
Where is the author going to take us next? Realistically speaking…..Black Rock Falls needs a break from all the murders going on!

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Absolutely amazing as usual. I have never read a bad D K Hood novel. Thrilling and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I can never put this author down, but never want it too end.

Another Kane and Alton book is like coming home. Each time I read one I tell myself I really need to get back to the beginning of this series and get more of their backstory, especially after reading the epilogue on this one.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting Jenna’s baby arriving. I love how dedicated she is to her job and how she’s balancing being very pregnant and tracking down the latest serial killer in Black Rock Falls. She has a great team around her. She’s able to mostly hold down the fort at the office while the men (no sexism there, they’re all just careful with her, and it’s her choice to stay behind) head out to do the leg work in this case.

I would never want to live in Black Rock Falls but it’s very easy to get lost in this world.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of this book.

This book was intense from the very beginning! A limo full of teenagers goes missing on prom night, and what follows is a terrifying and emotional ride. Sheriff Jenna Alton, heavily pregnant, and her team must race against time to find the missing kids. The story quickly turns dark when the boys are found dead, and the girls are nowhere to be seen.
The suspense never lets up, and the danger feels real, especially with Jenna’s pregnancy adding extra tension. The scenes in the forest were chilling, and the killer’s twisted methods were truly disturbing. I also liked the connections to past cases, it made things even more gripping.
Even after 26 books, this series still surprises me. The characters feel familiar, and the story kept me turning pages. If you love dark crime thrillers with high stakes and strong female leads, this one is definitely worth reading!

This book needs a trigger warning. It was absolutely no holds barred brutally horrifying. This one starts with a terrifying, jaw dropping, soul crushing act.
From there the terror only gets worse. Literally heart pounding through out. As a mom this is literally my worst nightmare and this book did in fact give me nightmares. That being said… I adore these characters, the plot was superbly well written. Super fast paced, super scary and super suspenseful.
If you are a scary book lover like me then this one will be a great read for you!

This was dark and terrifying, and when you hear the title in the book being referenced, that was so bloody chilling!!

The entire premise is intense because as soon as the limo goes missing, people then turn up. Jenna is heavily pregnant, and you just feel like a clock is ticking. I think the scariest moment for me was Rowley walking down the street, and the ripples from the Quake started!!

I did feel that there was no urgency from the team when Raven and Emily were stuck up in the woods, and there was a sniper on the loose. I mean, normally, Wolf would go up the mountains no matter what, but it felt to me the team didn't try hard enough.

However, we are book 26 and we are still being surprised, and the clanger at the end of the book with Dave....I mean what the hell!!!!! I need to know the story NOW!! Plus, who doesn't love a reference to the Tarot card killer - I hope we have more of that soon!!

I listened to the audiobook in one go, as I needed to know how it would end, the reason behind it, and if everyone would make it out alive!!!!! Another great instalment to the series.
