I've enjoyed both the two previous books by the collaboration of Clinton and Patterson so was looking forward to this, only to be very disappointed. Unfortunately the previous books are much better and it feels like this was cobbled together with a poor storyline and i actually have no idea what really happened at the beginning of the book, as it just bored me making it hard to get through to the rest.
I even tried the audio book, which had some pretty dire narrators too who spoke too slowly or emphasis put on wrong words, while others spoke quite quickly so you couldn't speed up the narration. .
However a big thanks to Random House UK, Cornerstone | Century for the opportunity to read and review. Unfortunately this just missed the mark for me.

This political thriller by the inimitable duo Clinton/Patterson is something I didn’t know I needed! The scenario is a plausible one and the execution is incredible! Absolutely loved the authors’ latest cooperation!

The First Gentleman is accused of committing a murder in his college days, but many years on from the assumed crime and it’s time to revisit the past, dig up the case and find out what really happened.
There’s something about crime in the world of politics that I think makes for a really great read, and this book was another perfect example of that. I really enjoyed how the story started by detailing what’s going on at present and then flashing back to work through how they got there, I felt this made for an excellent start to the book and it really drew me in.
Two journalists are digging up the past to find out what really happened to a missing cheerleader and the First Gentleman is at the centre of their research. There were so many unexpected twists throughout this book and it really did keep me guessing right until the very end. I thought it had the perfect balance of politics, crime and law whilst still being an easy yet deep and intriguing read.
If you’re interested in a good thriller with a political and law focused twist to it, I would highly recommend reading this! Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book

Loved it

After reading The President’s Daughter, I was excited to see Bill Clinton and James Patterson team up again for The First Gentleman. Their previous collaboration delivered great writing, sharp tension, and a gripping plot, so I had high hopes for this one.
And once again, the writing is strong, the political details feel authentic—because let’s be honest, Bill Clinton probably has a pretty good idea of how things work in the White House.. But here is the catch—it was all a bit too obvious. The twists did not really twist, and the story's destination was practically stamped on the boarding pass from the start. There were definitely some great moments, but no amount of suspense could distract from the fact that everything was heading exactly where you expected it to go. Well, that is at least how I felt, and this is my review.
That said, there are some great moments along the way, and if you enjoy political thrillers, it is still an entertaining read.
Thank You NetGalley and Random House UK for a Review Copy

Yet another winner from the Clinton/Patterson partnership. The plot is engrossing with twists and tuen throughout the journey, the characters are well developed and in some cases likeable and in others certainly not and you are on a rollercoaster of a ride when the husband of the president is accused of murder.
Nothing is quite as it seems to be and the denouement is thrilling if slightly predictable.
The descriptions of the inner workings of the White House are what makes this book stand out and it is an exhilarating Sumer read.
Highly recommended

I really enjoyed The First Gentleman and think this book definitely delivers - it has everything I like - good writing and a believeable plot line complemented by cliff hanger chapter endings that made me want to know more. I was quickly pulled into the story and its characters from the start and the authors held my attention and interest all the way through. The story flows easily and I like that it is told through different characters. I really enjoyed the court scenes. The authors excel at increasing the tension, suspense, atmosphere and thrills throughout and together have come up with a cracker of a read here, one I'd recommend if you like political thrillers.
4 stars

When one of the most popular and best selling novelists in the world teams up with the man who knows everything there is to know about American politics, you just know it is going to be a thrilling page turner!
Loved this one

This is third in the breathtaking and epic long novel from James and former President Clinton. When Cole, the first gentlemen, is accused of murder it turns the President world upside down.
This is a long, fast pace new edition that I couldn't put down. I hope there's a 4th book coming as I need to see what happened next.

Cole Wright is the first gentleman, as he is married to the President of the United States, Maddie. He is accused of murder.
I am not going to tell of what happens, because it would be a spoiler, and the last thing I want to do is spoil a really good novel, which heats up as it goes along, and gets more suspenseful as it prgresses, until I literally could not put it down till I had finished the novel. The characters of Maddie, Brea and Garrett are particularly well drawn. An excellent read, and one which I highly recommend.

What a fun exciting take on the role of a First Gentleman from a former president that knows what really goes on inside the White House. It was fun, suspensful, and definitely gripping to see what was going to happen. James Patterson is a legend in this field and it was fun to see former President Clinton as his cowriter.
