3.5 rounded up.

Jamie is a rock-star trying to finish off her next album and hoping to make it big. Clayton is a big country music start signed to the same record label. They end up working in the same recording studio and sparks fly while Clayton tries to convince Jamie that he's not the guy she thinks he is, and also, that she's a natural country music star.

This one captivated me pretty quickly. Having two leads that were messy, with one-sided animosity was such a great setup to this rockstar-turned-country romance. I did find that some of the scene jumps gave me whiplash right out of the gate, although I eventually adjusted to the writing style, it was a bit jarring to get used to, especially as they often happened mid-chapter break and switched perspective without labeling them.

I also would have loved to have a bit more background both to Jamie and Clayton, as we get some depth into both of their abusive relationships, but from being told in the other perspective, and not from a mental deep dive from the characters themselves. It made it a bit more detached for such serious topics and an introspective take could have course-corrected that early on.

Overall I found the story itself interesting and fun, the prank war on the tour had me laughing, and the sweet moments with Claytons girls really rounded out the crew. I genuinely think the book could have ended pretty quickly after the tour and been a five star read for me. Unfortunately the puritanical side-characters, the jump in Clayton and Jamie's declaration of love, the mystery of the threats being illogical, and the end country music awards all just felt a little too serendipitous and disingenuous to keep it at that level. I'm all for suspending belief in a romance, but sometimes it's just too perfect and drags it out, instead of letting the reader imagine how their history could unfold themselves.

If you like country romance, deep accents, and some religious undertones, this one could be for you! There's a couple kissing scenes and one vague intimate scene, so people who are not a fan of descriptive spice may also find this to be a read they enjoy. I usually read heavy spice but I found the tension to be well done in this, and it wasn't missed.

I loved this book, it had me hooked from the start, I loved the banter between the characters, and the relationship that formed throughout. I loved a slow burn trope and enemies to lovers and this didn't disappoint.

Gone Country was a fun and original read. I loved Clayton. He was so sweet and funny. Although I felt like Jamie was a bit too mean, without any valuable reason? The guy was just so nice to her, but she just kept being mean to him. We went too fast from hating/tolerating each other to being in love. I didn't really believe it on Jamie's part.

The vibes started changing when the girls joined them on tour and I started getting more into it. I looooooved the prank war, although it made me feel like they were more friends than anything else. I honestly didn't feel much chemistry or tension until the end. Or any emotions on Jamie's end. I wish the banter and the flirt started a bit earlier. That's when I started to like Jamie a little and that's when I started to like them together.

That being said, I loved the setting, the puppies 🥹 and the Langley family.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion 🫶🏽

A really sweet enemy to lovers book!

I enjoyed this book, but I won’t lie Jamie’s character annoyed me a lot of the time, and if they rest of the characters weren’t so loveable it might of put me off

Clayton is a great MMC and I loved his family too!

I did wish Clayton’s chapters had been longer and more in depth

But aside from this it still was an enjoyable read

3.5 stars!

This book was the absolute cutest!

Country star Clayton is all charm and wholesome sexiness, and he has the world eating out of his hand. Which annoys rock star tough girl Jamie to no end, and boy does he get under her skin. When they accidentally collaborate on a song and go viral, a whole new world opens up for both, and they’re thrown together for PR, performances, and all the fun.

Clayton was my dream MMC—a genuine sweetheart of a man and single dad who loves his family to no end. Jamie’s had it rough, with no family to speak of and no one she can count on. She’s learned to build up walls to defend herself and can be prickly, but Clayton’s dead set on getting her to let him in, even if it takes a while. And their chemistry? Soooooo good! Banter? Even better! Side characters? Adorable. There was such a nice mix of sweetness with some edginess mixed in too. And I’m not always a southern drawl kind of girl but boy did I love Clayton’s dialogue. And the puppies!!!

I had the best time with this book and highly recommend it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.25— Gone Country by Hunter Snow

Clayton Langley is pure country charm, Jaime Keaton is unapologetic rock ‘n’ roll attitude 🎸🤠. A New Year’s Eve kiss years later puts them on a collision course.

When fate lands them in the same recording studio, their music is magic 🎶… even if they can’t stand each other. Forced on tour together, the walls start to crumble, replaced by banter, mischief, and unexpected tenderness.

This was sweet, entertaining, and had plenty of tour shenanigans to keep me smiling.

This is a very good enemies to lovers slow burn romance. Jaime is a rock n roll princess in Nashville for a fundraiser. Clayton is a country star who is brash and outspoken. On the night of the fundraiser, where they are both performing and both a bit drunk, he kisses her as the show ends. She doesn't react well. while both working on albums, he convinces her to go to a Nashville bar to test out the reaction to a song they are working on. It goes viral and the fun begins. A very funny read as they work he way from enemies to lovers.

A very sweet enemies-to-lovers romcom, Gone Country is a refreshing tale of two completely contrasting characters who are thrown into a chance encounter and end up falling in love. Jamie Keaton is a spirited rock performer, fiercely independent, rough and rash. Clayton Langley is exactly the opposite, easy going, warm and chilled out. She is a rock star performer and he is a country side artist. They are forced to collaborate on a song where hell breaks loose first before the love blooms. I really liked the slow burning romance and the witty banter between the protagonists. It was an enjoyable read.

This was a fun and warm read. It felt like a warm hug watching Clayton’s family and girls fall in love with Jamie. I absolutely loved the found family aspect of this story. I was a big Nashville fan and love country music. I was excited to see a book with both in them.

I giggled, groaned at corny jokes ( I secretly loved them ) and cheered when some ones finally figured their stuff out and no it wasn’t Jamie and Clayton I cheered for.

I would absolutely recommend this book!!

Thank you so NetGalley and Hunter Snow, for this ARC♥️ however we both DNF’d this book (Amy at 44% and Jade at 45% completely unaware of the others review) both really struggling to even get to that point.

We loved the idea of this book, the storyline of an enemies-to-lovers of two artists being forced to work together was going to be our cup of tea so we were super excited to read this.

We felt like both of the characters had the potential to have really deep back stories, however they both seemed quite brushed over. It was a great concept but Clayton seemed delusional when he kept saying that him and Jamie were getting closer - “That was the plan, keep her here until she likes me” slightly alarming behaviour😅 - when she was still pining over Derrick and in no way gave any signs of her liking him! Jamie’s backstory showed signs of emotional abuse with her partner but never went into depth therefore a lot of her actions seemed completely childish. She was very difficult to like as she was just angry at all times without a personality or banter to back it up, which just made her quite unlikeable and genuinely a bad person with whom we couldn’t emotionally connect with.
We liked the idea of this book but instead found it really difficult to read. An easy romance like this we would normally eat up in a day but found ourselves constantly checking to see how much we had left to digest.

I’m a music lover as well as a book lover & love a good rockstar romance. I’m always looking out for new books & new authors with these themes so was instantly drawn to this book. I liked the sound of it & decided to take a chance on this new author to me - & am so glad I did.

Jamie is a pop / rock star & Clayton is a country singer, both at the top of their game. Sharing a manager & publicist they’re asked to work together whilst they’re both in Nashville. There is some history between them. Neither knows much about the other’s music & genre; Jamie in particular is adamant in her dislike of country music & of Clayton in particular for a past incident. Clayton is attracted to Jamie, but quickly realises how easy it is to tease her, & delights in doing so. Sparks soon fly! Despite their differences, they find that they work well together & write good songs together, which helps deepen both the tension & the friendship. His particular brand of southern charm is gorgeous, but just doesn’t work on her.

I loved the way that music is at the heart of this story; it’s an essential part of each of the main characters, drawing them together & providing the context in which their friendship & working relationship develop. I loved the way the author integrates the fictional & the real world of music, & if country music in particular with references to just enough real life country stars to give context to the story, which I really appreciated. The musical references helped me imagine the kind of music Clayton & Jamie performed individually & together, & sent me off to listen to some of the songs referenced in the story - including a particular favourite of mine - “Shut up and kiss me”. I’d love it if the author could produce a track list to go with this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a great story with main characters who are believable & likeable, & a superb supporting cast with Clayton’s family, especially his twin daughters, & their dogs. There’s some lol moments, & I read this with a smile on my face. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

With thanks to the author & Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this gorgeous book.

I love a good story with music in it! I really enjoyed how Jamie grew as a character and her relationship with Clayton and his kids was super cute.

Overall I liked the book but at point the pacing felt weird and I wish Jamie's rock background was explored more.

Enemies to lovers romcom that had everything. Cute kids. Cute Animals. Sweet family connections. Two singers who DID NOT get along at first. It was just a fun afternoon read.

My only issue was all the pranks that went on when they went on tour. I'm not a fan of pranks because they are usually more mean spirited than fun. That's just me.

All in all a cute story.

I genuinely had a fun time. the will they or won't they banter through out the book was comical, plus add in the pranks and the "hate" really wasn't what it seemed. If you like a slow burn he falls first type story you will eat this up. I am also LIVING for the Nolan/ruth side plot. like PLEASE give me more!

and when I mean slow burn??? like damn I was on edge waiting for SOMETHING. this was also my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised overall.

The premise and the cover really caught my attention, and I was genuinely curious to see where the story would unfold. Unfortunately, I was quickly turned off by the language. I can usually handle a little cussing here and there, but the f-bomb was literally the third word in the book and continued to appear in almost every other sentence. That was just too much for me, and I became disinterested pretty quickly. Some readers who aren't bothered by strong language would probably love this, but it was definitely excessive for my taste.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Also, shoutout to Trin for the recommendation — it did not disappoint! ❤️

I’m a sucker for enemies-to-lovers tropes, and this book absolutely delivered. I do wish Clayton’s (MMC) chapters were a bit longer — I loved his perspective and wanted more of it. Jamie (FMC) frustrated me in a few parts, but it honestly made her growth feel more authentic in the end. And can we talk about the side romance between Jamie’s assistant, Ruth, and Clayton’s brother, Nolan? So adorable! ☺️

I flew through this book because the plot was so easy to follow and engaging. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more books from the amazing Hunter Snow!

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book and loved it.

Gone Country follows rockstar Jamie Keaton who ends up playing around on a song with her rival, country singer Clayton Langley, only to end up being forced to record it together, and gets thrown into his world very much against her will.

Despite undeniable chemistry, both of them have old hurt and unresolved issues to work through before they can even consider anything other than mass destruction.

This was a sweet slow burn novel, with the best build up and banter, which made it a very quick read and easy to get lost in.
While not your typical enemies to lovers, in that the animosity is really one-sided, and mostly due to misunderstandings in their past, the characters were relatable and their emotions were real. Watching Clayton tear down Jamie’s walls, despite her best efforts, and helping her heal over 20 years of hurt through family dinners and ultimate prank wars makes this the perfect summer rom-com.

Gone Country // @huntersnowbooks

Firstly, thank you Hunter & @netgalley for the ARC 👐📚

He’s country, she’s rock and roll. Both music artists.

Forced proximity on tour.

And one accidental collaboration turns into a hit song. 🎶

Loved this one! So much fun 🤩

Perfect for those that like a rockstar/music romance but also a good ol’ cowboy romance. 💕

AND PUPPIES!!!!! 🐶

Slowwwww burn. I loved the way their relationship panned out. They hate each other and ignore what they have between them. When they realise how they feel about each other … sparks truely fly. ✨

This felt very unique!!

Loved the whole thing — beginning to end!!

Definitely recommend — out Aug 12th! 👖👢👠🎸

Quotes //

‘He turned on the radio, adjusting the station until it landed on “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift. She’d hardly pegged him as a Swiftie but he knew every word, just like the twins & her.
“I wish I wrote that song. You know, those songs that are just so good you wonder why you didn’t write them”.’

“I can’t change the past, but I damn sure want to be part of your future, I’m not going anywhere”.

3.5/5 ⭐

I struggled to get into this book. It probably wasn't until about halfway that I was invested. Jamie was quite a difficult character to like especially when she was so rude to Clayton who was just so wonderful. I loved Clayton's daughters and Ruth - the side characters were great in this book.

3.5/5 ⭐️ for Gone Country
Goodreads review posted on: 08/01/2025

Jamie and Clayton are the epitome of enemies-to-lovers in this story. Jamie is a rock singer/songwriter while Clayton is your down home country singer/songwriter. The two seem to clash in every way imaginable from their likes and dislikes to their writing style and even living accommodations.

I struggled to get into this story until somewhere around the middle. Jamie was a hard character to like with her constant nagging and emotional outbursts while Clayton’s charm came across a bit childish at times which was hard for me to read personally.

I did enjoy the character growth between the two as far as them opening up to each other and trying to incorporate each other into their respective lives, some by force and some voluntary.

Overall this was a 3.5 ⭐️ read for me and I did love the idea of the storyline!
