The writing didn't really hit with me. It was an interesting story and concept though. The characters were okay, I didn't really feel like I could connect or relate to any of them. The ending was surprising but I didn't get that WOW factor.

I received an ALC of A Mother’s Worst Nightmare by SE Lynes (out July 9th), and wow—what a story! Once again, this book proves why women end up choosing the bear . The psychological tension builds steadily, and just when I thought I had things figured out, the ending completely blindsided me 😅.

The narrators did a fantastic job—engaging, with great pacing and intonation. Their voices brought the characters to life in a very natural way, which really added to the overall experience.

A dark, emotional thriller that keeps you guessing , just the way I like it in my thriller books 😉

The phone call every mother dreads, your daughter is in hospital, bruised, confused, alone and with no memory of the events that put her there.

It should have been the social highlight of teen Casey’s year, a summer camp getaway, partying on the beach until dawn. Melissa is the single mother of two, who receives the call and rushes to the hospital.

I really enjoyed thrillers that start from a point of amnesia, piecing together the timelines that lead us to this point. Every Mother’s Nigthmare does it really well. It isn’t the fastest book to start off but it builds and builds as it progresses.

The latter stages are very powerful indeed and what might have been a good four star thriller could easily be five stars.

This is timely, honest, heartfelt, powerful and intelligent thriller writing.

Highly recommended, and the audiobook narration is great too!

Melissa is a single mother whose two children are away at camp when she gets a message with devastating news about her daughter, who has been found dehydrated and unable to recall what has happened to her after a possible case of sexual assault.

Struggling to understand her son's role, if any, in what has happened, Melissa wants answers - but will she get any? There is certainly something going on in terms of the company her keeping but it is difficult to figure things out when her daughter is confused and has thus far been unable to give a clear account of what went wrong.

While she knows as a parent, that at some point you have to let your children find their own way in life, Melissa can't help worrying that as a single parent she has made some missteps along the way. And without a clear understanding of what has actually happened to her daughter she does not know how to protect her children, whatever the lengths she is willing to go to in order to do so...

This one was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The pacing of the story dragged a bit at times, and it felt a bit underseasoned in terms of suspense.

But it starts off very strong and is intriguing in parts. I enjoyed this more as an audio book, and the narrator did an excellent job. Overall, this gets 3.5 stars and I am sure that the book will find many readers

Every Mother’s Nightmare started with a premise that had real promise: a mother's worst fears, secrets buried in the past, and an unraveling sense of safety. There were definitely moments that delivered on that tension, especially in the first half, where the suspense built steadily and the emotional undercurrents felt raw and real.

However, the pacing faltered midway, and some plot points started to feel repetitive or overly drawn out. I struggled to stay fully invested in the characters, and while the themes were powerful, the execution didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The ending felt a bit rushed compared to the slow-burning buildup.

That said, the audiobook narration was strong and helped keep me engaged even when the plot wavered. I think readers who enjoy domestic thrillers with a slower pace and emotional depth might connect with this more than I did.

I was very excited for this one but unfortunately it fell flat for me. The writing didn't work for me, it was clunky, it dragged in many places, yes there are many twists and turns but they didn't deliver the shock factor that I wanted and needed from this book.

I’ve read a number of Lynes’ books, and while this wasn’t my favourite I did really enjoy it. I wholly appreciate the author trying to draw attention to all of the rapidly rising issues in society at the moment, and for the majority of the book I found the writing to be spot on.

Told from 3 perspectives in the lead up to, the event of and the aftermath of a simmer festival.

Melissa, the mother, keen to give her daughter the same experiences as her friends, has been saving some money to gift her to go to Summer festival.

Dan, the son/brother is coming out of his shell a bit since making some new friends at the pub he works in and will be attending the festival with.

Casey, the daughter/sister recently finished school, desperate for summer festival to come around she’s ready to let her hair down before uni begins. Knowing her mum can’t afford it, Casey arranges to work at the festival, free accommodation free entry and spending money. The perfect plan.

Melissa is at work when she receives a call from the police to say that her daughter has been found partially clothed and unconscious in a tent , and from there everything is sent into freefall. The story really begins there and plays backwards. It was completely gripping. It transpires that a body has also been found at the.camp site. It also transpires that neither Dan or Casey have any memories from the night before. There were lots of twists that were really well executed,and had me doing some mental gymnastics. However, I have to be honest, while the twists were good. They definitely verged on unbelievable and there were a few things that didn’t sit well. All of that being said though, the book definitely holds a mirror to societal issues.

I think Tamsin Kennard is a fantastic narrator, she makes every book enjoyable and also delivers the intrigue when necessary.

The story and characters are very well written and I really enjoyed how the story unfolded. There is a lot of mystery around the tragic events which just get deeper and deeper.
Loved the ending and intricate way all the characters were brought together.

I really like this author and look forward to reading more.

If you like a few twists, you’ll probably like this book.

I was invested throughout, but the reveals fell a little flat for me. Mom gets a dreaded call, her daughter is in the hospital, she has to rush to her…

We actually get a whole side story with the brother as well, and I was interested in his story too. He’s a bartender at a local pub, not really happy with where he’s at in life.

I listened to the audio and I enjoyed the narrator. It kept my attention throughout and I was anxious to find out what really happened.

Without giving anything away, I enjoyed the story, but I actually could have done without the ending turn, or the added attempts at shock. It just all got a bit farfetched.

I think others will like this one. I just think sometimes we don’t need a bunch of trickery and silly plot twists for a compelling story.

An interesting and on the whole engrossing domestic thriller.

The narration was excellent throughout which always adds to the enjoyment.

I enjoyed the first half of the book a little more than the second. The first was 4☆, for me dropping to 3 later. The main reason for this was I felt the second half stretched out too much and became quite repetitive.

The back story is unpleasant and unfortunately topical which will give folk pause for thought.

The Real question is what truly happened that night?

REVIEW: I liked listening to it, the story was good. I just wanted more from the story maybe i mean it was kind off predictable but it still kept me hooked to the story. I wont say this book is something extraordinary or an amazing masterpiece but it did what it had to do like keeping you hooked till the end. It just felt generic to me in some ways.
The Narrator did an amazing job of narrating the story.

Overall, I would say that this book is decent to OK. I really appreciated the themes that this book explored and think the characters represent real world issues and think that this is a good story at the right time. However, the writing and pacing of the story just didn’t match up. For one, I think this book was way too long. I think the story drug out and I felt like I was rushing to get through this book. I also think there were a few too many twists. I think the twists were mostly well executed, but once we got to the end reveal it just got a little too complicated and we could’ve stuck with one explanation that we got. I also just kind of struggled to get really invested into the plot. Everything was just kind of: “meh” to me. There were also some times where the characters acted in ways that I don’t think our representative of how this generation acts and talks. There were “how do you do fellow kids” moments.

Overall, I appreciated the message and think this book tackles important issues, but could have been a little shorter and a little more concise and it’s character development and messaging.

I loved the way this one immediately draws you in. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator does a great job. The fact that it was written in third person definitely affected the ease of following the story for me. I did enjoy the multiple POV aspect of it. After the first few chapters, it unfortunately fell flat for me. Nothing was really happening. I got annoyed that the title of the book is “Every Mother’s Nightmare” but there were only 2 chapters in the first 12 that were the mothers POV. Ultimately, it went too slow for me and I couldn’t make myself finish it.

What I thought: This story is told from the point of view of the three main characters, multiple timelines, and going back and forth constantly. It is fast paced and at times can be a bit challenging to keep up with the various timelines. Overall the story was good but I didn’t care for the constant back and forth timelines. There is a good twist but it’s pretty subtle. I would rate this book 3 stars.

Narrator Tamsin Kennard did an absolute phenomenal job bringing all these different characters to life!

I really enjoyed it. I found it fast paced and left me wanting to know more every time I stopped reading. The characters were enjoyable and relatable. I loved the different POVs. There are some twists and turns on the way which genuinely had me a little shocked. Definitely wasn't expecting some of them.

This was very character-driven story, which some may enjoy more than myself. The story was a slow build-up that kept me wanting more, at a bit of a faster pace. There were a few times I felt as if the storyline was dragging out. Once I got closer to the end, the twists started to unravel and it all felt worth the read!

I enjoyed the author’s attention to detail on such a heavy topic. The mother’s point of view was a heartbreaking one but it boiled down to not being able to control everything that happens in your child’s life, as they grow. As a parent myself, I related with the mother’s constant fear of “what if” regarding her children becoming more independent.

Sadly, there are a lot of smooth talkers out there like Byrne. As cringy as those scenes were, they felt very comparable to real life situations and how quickly things can escalate, such as Casey’s situation.

Overall, the ending upped my rating of this book. I enjoyed the storyline but wish it didn’t jump around so much. 3.5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed this story. I love a good thriller and this one kept me guessing. Every time I thought I knew where the story was taking me it flipped me around and took me in a whole other direction, but in a way that made sense. The cast was generally likable and I was hoping for the best for the 3 characters we get perspectives from. The side characters were also pretty well done.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job. I love how they read each part and I was totally engrossed in their narration.

I'm going to check out other stories by this author, I feel like I'd enjoy more.

This was my first S.E. Lines novel and it won’t be my last. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. This tense story kept me waiting to find out what happened. The story wasn’t as shocking as I hoped it would be but I did enjoy it.

The narrator did a great job and fit well with the story.

S.E. Lynes has written another fantastic thriller here!

Every Mother’s Nightmare is an apt title for what ensues when Melissa’s two children get mixed up with a crime while at a camp ground over the summer.

One thing you should know about SE Lynes is that she writes likable and relatable mothers. Is my situation just like hers? No, but I’m also a mom and I identify with the fierce love Melissa feels for her children, and she desire to protect them.

Through the narration, we learn the backstory of both of Melissa’s children, Casey and Dan. Casey is just finishing high school and looking to be more independent, and Dan is a few years out of high school, and a bit lost.

Melissa isn’t sure what Dan will do with his life, until he meets a new friend, modeled after the Joe Rogan-like alpha males who talk at length about working out, dressing sharp and respecting women…but don’t doesn’t actually respect women.

Dan changes his habits to try to fit in with this new clique, but is still the kind son Melissa remembers.

It all comes to a head when Dan, his new friends, and Casey all meet up at summer camp, and after a terrible night, no one can remember what happened, but someone is dead and everyone looks guilty.

This thriller has a similar vibe to one of my absolute favorite thrillers, Wrong Place, Wrong Time, by Gilliam McAllister. I mentioned that so that you know, if you like McAllister, you’ll like S.E. Lynes and you’ll love this book.

Towards the end, while the family is waiting for more information, there is a little lull in the novel, but that was the only time I wasn’t completely and totally engrossed.

You won’t see the twists at the end coming, but you will believe that Melissa is a wonderfully brave Mom, and that she loves her kiddos.

The story also touches on some deeper themes, like toxic masculinity, which added another layer to the plot and made it even more thought-provoking.
With a gripping mix of mystery, emotion, and unexpected twists, this is definitely a thriller I’d recommend—and one I’d gladly read again.
