Really good, entertaining and educational in the perfect mix
I loved that the book was divided into snappy subsections, or topics. The facts were truly fascinating and, as an adult, I wasn’t already aware of many of the facts so it was very eye opening for me too. There is a good selection of the gunky, yucky and shocking which I’m sure any self respecting child will adore (I certainly did!) Also the cute and unusual animals plus animal, poo, what more could you possibly want?!
I can definitely see this appealing to a variety of ages, child and adult alike and would be a fantastic book to explore along with your child as you both embark on a voyage of discovery. It’d definitely prompt further delving and researching into areas they particularly delight in.
A couple of minor formatting errors in the copy I viewed, but as it’s pre publication date I’m sure these will be ironed out.
Lovely, lovely book and left me wanting more. I’ll definitely have to store some of the wackier facts in my brain to entertain my early years class, I shall be a hero! Thank you, very enjoyable.

My 9 year old loved it, he said - outstanding, the facts will shock any reader! My favourite bit was about radioactive bananas!

My daughter is 8 and loves these books. It’s a great book to read together, my daughter likes the weird and wonderful facts, laughing and screaming out loud, great when books get these sort of reactions from kids. The pictures are great adding to the whole experience of reading this book. On Amazon these books are said to be aimed at 7-10 and I would agree with this. Rather than reading this book as a whole we found it easier to read in little chunks, easier to take in and discuss the facts that we had learnt. The great thing is that my child was so engrossed in all these weird facts that were funny that-she didn’t realise she was learning stuff as well. After she would just randomly say guess what I know a fact about such and such so she was taking in what we had been reading. I can’t recommend these books enough for kids.

This is a great summer read.
The photos are magical. For example, you can see very curious aspects of insects in closeups.
My child and I enjoyed this plenty.

Weird But True! 2026 - National Geographic Kids

Unusual Islands
*On opening the book one things for sure, I definitely don’t want to visit
Mexico City, Island of dolls *shudders*
*And Italy’s Bad Luck Island is one I think I’ll stay away from too. It won’t stop me from wanting to visit Italy completely, though this place is a NO! lol

Underwear through the ages
*Lucky pants: Superstition says that if you wear red pants on New Year’s Eve, you’ll have good luck the following year.
*Big Bloomers: A pair of Queen Victoria’s Knickers sold at auction for more than £12.000 the cotton bloomers measured 114 centimetres around the waist and had the Queens initials on them.

Bookish
*Columbian Miler Lagos is an artist who makes sculptures out of books. His book Igloos are made of books stacked together to form strong structures without any glue, just like ice blocks in real igloos.
*Book Benches - The books about town campaign in London had benches in the shape of open books. I remember the town where I used to live also had open book benches in memory of Jane Austin in 2017! Very colourful benches and everyone was having their pictures taken on them. 📸
*The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles, US, features an incredible tunnel made entirely of books. Visitors can walk through this winding passageway made of stacked-up novels. Wouldn’t mind visiting somewhere like this, it sounds like fun. 📕 🤩

This book if full of great facts for kids and adults alike it’s a fun read for all. I used to borrow many books from the library as a kid that were very similar to this type of book. Even my 15 year old son had a browse through and had a laugh at some of the facts presented in it. 👏

Weird is the right word for some of the facts in this book and some are just wrong lol. I loved it so many interesting things about everything you could imagine especially about some lovely cute looking animals with some deadly forms of protection. This is a fun and fascinating way to learn which is great for kids and young at heart a like.
