This is a really enjoyable read describing the beauty of the Oregon landscape combined with characters you love ( or love to hate) and a clever mystery. There is love, trauma and fear in the first of this series and I will certainly read more

First book in a new series from this author and it fits nicely into the cozy crime genre albeit trekking up a mountain is anything but cozy !! Meg isn't completely honest about her credentials when applying for the job which rapidly becomes apparent on her first climb. She knows there is a killer out there but just not who. Easy read and good page turner with an ending to make you want to read the next one asap !!

Thanks to Netgalley / Storm publishing for the ARC to review.

I really enjoyed reading Meg's story (as a new reader, who didn't read these books when they were last published), and this was the perfect book to read this summer (even though the vibes are autumn/fall).

I loved Meg's character, and she feels different from other protagonists I've read in cozy mysteries. She is young, makes mistakes, and isn't afraid to admit her weaknesses, and I enjoyed her budding possible romance with Matt. All of the other characters helped to support the story, from Meg's circle of people (Jill, Gam, Matt etc.), to those involved in the mystery, everyone felt individual and unique.

One of my favourite parts of the book was the setting. The descriptions of Oregon really immersed me in the book, and took me hiking from the comfort of my armchair! I found myself googling lots of the places, and planning an imaginary trip in my head haha!

The mystery itself was great. I loved the reality show aspect mixed with Meg's journalism, and I changed who I thought the killer was multiple times. The final 'reveal' scene was super fun, too.

Overall, this book was a great set up for Meg's world, and I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I only knocked a star off because the book felt a little slow in terms of pace around the halfway mark (it did pick back up), and I think it may be a tad too long, but that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment, and I am more than excited to read the next book!

Having enjoyed all six books in the Secret Bookcase series I eagerly awaited the next series, Meg Reed Investigates which is the first book of five in a re-eleased series. Very different from the Secret Bookcase but well written and gripping. Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

Meg is a wannabe reporter who fudges her resume to attain a job for an extreme sports magazine. Although she has excellent skills as a writer she has zero skills as an outdoor enthusiast.
Fast paced, with twists, ‘tumbles’ and murder, this was a nice light good book. Thank you Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the eARC. This review is my personal opinion of this new series from author Ellie Alexander.

I thought this book was the start of a new series from Ellie Alexander, turns out it's a reprint of an old series. Old story or new I really enjoyed this cozy mystery, even if it was originally printed 10 or so years ago, it fits right in with current times. Meg Reed, daughter of an investigative journalist, She's landed her first job at an outdoor magazine, even though she's not as outdoorsy as her boss thinks. I didn't really care for Jill's boyfriend, he seemed like a smarmy rich boy, thank goodness he had a very small part in the story. Meg seems to have feelings for her boss and for her friend Matt, personally I think she fits better with Matt. Something about Greg is fishy to me. I have not read the original series and right now I won't because I'm hoping all of them will be reissued, but I really would like to read the rest of this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.

A Murder on the Mountain by Ellie Alexander is a Meg Reed Investigates story. Meg is a journalist, first and foremost. Sadly there are not many jobs left given the demise of print media. By accident she spills coffee on a man one day and he gives her his card and all but offers her a job. She sends the requested samples and personal information, selectively skimming over the part where she is supposed to be into extreme sports. She does mostly filler work at first, but when Mitch, the lead reporter injures himself, she gets the opportunity to write an important story. Sadly she has to climb mountains to do it. She tells herself she can; ignores her roommate’s instructions to break in the hiking shoes, and shoots forward. It is a reality television program, with the finale being filmed here. The mountain is part of it. She gets about half way up the trail when she sees a body windmilling over the side, far about her head. Between how miserable she is and how shocked she is, she is on the edge. Her boss comes along and helps her to the bottom where she speaks to the police. She needs to know how this happened. It is her father’s investigative reporter genes rising to the top.

Meg is determined and talented. She is willing to rush forward without thinking, which has a tendency to get her in trouble. No one is fooled that she is into extreme sports, but they are all game to support her. She’s a terrific character. The cast and crew of the television show are all a little different. Hard to read, and well, odd. Her boss and others warn her away but no go. She nearly gets herself killed but is saved in the end, having solved the murder. It was a good read. Love Meg Reed. Looking forward to more.

I was invited to read A Murder on the Mountain by Storm Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #StormPublishing #EllieAlexander #MurderOnTheMountain.

‘I think I need a nature sabbatical.’

Reading an Ellie Alexander book for the first time is an absolute delight. Getting to read an updated version of her very first cozy mystery was like going home and wrapping yourself in a soft cozy blanket in front of a fireplace with a mug of the best hot chocolate (Or beer) close at hand: absolutely delightful. Meg’s still that hapless 23 year old recent collage graduate that’s whole world got tilted off of it’s axis when her Pops died unexpectedly. Adulting hasn’t come as easy for her as it has for her friends Jill and Matt but she’s determined to succeed even if it means fibbing her way into a job she’s completely unqualified for and luckily we get to ride along on her adventures!

I fell in love with Ellie Alexander after reading her latest series, A Secret Bookcase Mystery. I grew to love her writing style, how cozy she makes her mysteries, her captivating plots, and how she ties most characters back in with each book and provides a slight background so that even if you didn't read the prior books, you could still jump right in. She's probably my favorite cozy mystery writer!
I was so excited when I saw her latest work, A Murder On The Mountain. The blurb sounded fun and lighthearted for a mystery, which I love. And of course, it sounded promising because anything written by Mrs. Alexander is sure to be a hit (for me, at least)!
Meg Reed is in need of a job, and pronto. By some luck, she is offered a job and happily accepts. The only issue is that she's not the outdoorsy type. Now, she finds herself working for Northwest Extreme magazine, highlighting their Race The States segment. This job is perfect for her, minus the fact that she'll have to spend the majority of her time climbing this mountain. She does her best to power through, which she does an amazing job at, until she witnesses the death of a contestant, Lenny. Now, Meg is not only determined to nail this position and all that it entails, but also find out what happened to Lenny.
This book was a fun, quick read. It's different from the A Secret Bookcase Mystery series in the sense that it's not as cozy, but this also makes it more thrilling and exciting. And just like most of Ellie Alexander's mysteries, just when we think we have an idea of who the suspect is, things take a turn. And of course, there is a love interest. Matt is the cutest, the way he cares for Meg, but they're just friends. I'm curious to see how their relationship will unfold, given he saved her life & all. A solid 4-star read!
Thank you NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and Ellie Alexander for this ARC!

I always enjoy an Ellie Alexander read and this was no exception. I think her descriptions of the Pacific Northwest really shine through in this book (although I did miss some of the food from her other, newer series). I didn't initially realize this was a re-release book, but I was glad for the opportunity to discover Meg and her friends. I thought the mystery in this was enjoyable, and will definitely pick up the rest in the series as they are available!

i was so excited to start a new mystery series with an author whose previous series i have absolutely loved but unfortunately, i didn't enjoy this one as much as the other books. it's not the writing or the mystery aspect (the authors is great at both!), and this has the same small town charm as her other series. but i simply was not connecting with the main character at all (not her stating being 30 is old?????!!!!) and i was not a huge fan of the instalove. still had the ellie trademark fun and charm of a cozy mystery, it was just the main character that made this almost unbearable lol.

This is a new series of Ellie Alexander for me. Familiar with her writing style, I had a few expectations. The premise of the story was really good with a death at an adventure race. What I felt lacking was the FMC.

Meg didn't strike a chord with me. I found her to be way naive for an investigator. It felt that Meg wanted to prove something she never really had to and the reveal though strong was not really something she solved.

The author did a wonderful job describing the trek scenes. It felt the reader was in the lap of nature. The whole triangle was a second there could have been avoided. It was awkward to read.

I felt that Meg really didn't do much in finding the killer and that the whole dramatic end was overkill. However I cannot deny the feel good vibe this author brings in her books. I give this book 3 stars.

I thank NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the E-Arc and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I've always enjoyed Ellie Alexander's books, but this one takes place in the state I live in, so I was super intrigued! Meg has been hired by Northwest Extreme magazine, and she's got to prove her writing chops. Unfortunately, she's not really into extreme sports. When a murder takes place during the event she's covering, all bets are off. I fell in love with this book, and am looking forward to reading more.

This was a nice start to a new series. It was fast paced and kept me guessing to the end. I wasn’t feeling all warm and fuzzy about Meg but she’s growing on me.
Definitely looking forward to where her next adventure goes to.

Meg Reed is definitely not an outdoorsy type of girl. She is more city girl, prefers air conditioning to the outdoors and looking at nature from a window. However, when she gets an opportunity to be a reporter for North Western Extreme magazine, she fudges her experience a little. This was probably a bad idea for someone who is terrified of heights and has no survival skills in the wild. But her need to get off of her friend's couch and make her mark on the world spur her on to do her best at her new job. This has disaster written all over it.

When a contestant in the race she is covering ends up dead, the reporter in Meg will not allow her to let it go. She has the blood of her reporter father flowing through her veins, which means she is like a dog with a bone once she gets something in her head.

Even though I am definitely not an outdoor enthusiast, the author's descriptions of the beauty of the Oregon mountains, where this race was taking place, made me want to be there, minus the rock climbing.

The cast of characters in this new series were interesting, and came from all walks of life. The mystery was fantastic with plenty of red herrings. I enjoyed getting to know Meg Reed and her friends. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

An adventure reporter who is scared of heights, Meg Reed thought getting a job at Northwest Extreme magazine was lucky until she realized she has to do outdoors herself. A fantastic start to a new series set in Oregon. The Pacific Northwest setting is vividly described. Meg finds herself covering a race on the Columbia River Gorge. Unfortunately she witnesses an accident with one of the contestants. She must put her fears aside and uncover the truth. Strong characters, great setting and a delightful read! Thanks #Netgalley and #StormPublishing for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.

I love a cozy mystery as they are fun quick reads with quirky characters and a fun mystery. A rainy day was a perfect backdrop for this novel.

Meg just earned her journalism degree—but with no job in sight, things are looking rough... until a chance run-in lands her a gig at an outdoor adventure magazine. One small problem? She’s terrified of heights and has zero experience with anything remotely "outdoorsy." Yikes.

Her first assignment turns deadly when a fellow hiker takes a fatal fall—or was it murder? Meg, equal parts determined and adorably clueless, sets out to solve the mystery. She may lack common sense, but she’s got heart, curiosity, and just enough guts to get into (and out of) trouble.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Meg Reed was thrilled with her new job with Northwest Extreme magazine until she realized that it involved climbing the mountain heights of the Pacific Northwest. During her coverage of the adventure race, she witnessed one of the contestants fall to their death in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge. She knew it was more than an accident, but her job as a covering reporter was on the line, and she feared a killer was on the loose.
Seeking support from her friends, she moves ahead with her notebook in hand to get her story, but someone is trying to stop her. When her life is suddenly threatened, she soon finds out that the close-knit racing community that surrounds her is not as safe as she thought.
