What a great fast paced thriller. The twist was one I did not see coming! I thought I had it figured out and bam it went in a total different direction. Kept me on my toes the entire time in the best way! I will be recommending this book to others.

A different kind of story from this author,no less enthralling with a major twist. Believable characters, great story.

I mean wow wow wow wow and WOW!! I DEVOURED the audiobook as much as I could! My head was all over the place! I couldn't believe the situation we were in, and I loved the chapters counting down to our present day.

John irritated the hell out of me! Couldn't he see what his behaviour was doing to Jessie!! And then it felt like it was excused after a while!

Alex to me was golden! What a support and a friend. Although maybe he could have tried harder with the radio silence! I did find it odd that no one came looking for Jessie!!

This book does mess with your head; it was stellar! I had no idea who was real and what was real! So many secrets and so much deceit that all you can do is go with the flow of the book.

It really was fantastic, and I didn't want to put this down ever. My mind was boggled every step of the way, and I was tempted to just jump to the end as I was getting impatient. I didn't, I lived every moment with Jessie when she was awake!

This is a book I won't forget in a hurry, where the wolf hides in plain sight!!

A car accident sets the initial scene of this book. The story unfolds as it flashes between prior to the accident and the now when Jessie finally wakes up from a coma in her grandmother’s house which she was set to inherit as part of the full estate, worth millions.

While I thought I had put the pieces of the puzzle together early, the story telling kept me turning the pages, wondering if I was right or was there another twist coming, was someone else involved?

In the cast we have her husband John who is suspected of affairs, of fathering other children, alienation of affection as he focuses on his career and is away more than he is home and their interactions lack affection.

Her brother Matthew is a stockbroker working at the same firm as John and is the one person in the family Jessie relies on, to share her fears with, and goes to for guidance in times of trouble.

Alex, is a new friend she makes when she starts art classes, but is it a true friendship of is he connected to all that is happing around her?

The carer at the house and the other staff, can they be trusted?

The corporate Lawyer, Rebecca, with stunning looks and constantly at John’s side, are they just colleagues and friends?

As secrets are uncovered and the truth revealed, the story wraps up in a tidy bow and happy ending. While the part of me loves a HEA, the other part of me wants to scream at Jessie for how quickly she overcomes and forgives the hurts of the past.

This book was so good! There are not many books that I've read that have my emotions all over the place but this one definitely did and I loved every minute of it. I was happy, sad, angry and everything in between. One of the few books that had me staring at the wall when I was done, just processing the amazing writing and storyline. Will 100% recommend and will most definitely be reading again

WOW! this book was sooo good. I was on a cruise while reading it and the story had me so captivated, I neglected looking outside :-). the story was very unpredictable and I could not put the book down. The characters were formed very well. And the story line was really good. I had no idea where the story was going but, I felt bad for the Jesse, the main character. She totally got gas-lighted. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley for the early access!

I loved the storyline of this book but the characters were all exhausting!!

Jessie put up with too much from her husband even prior to her accident. John, the husband, was an arrogant man! Rebecca was a selfish person that knew she was out of line. And don't get me started on Jessie's family.

Whew, drama for days!

Great book to dive into on holiday, it’s really fast paced so really griping from the start. My only disappointment was that for me the twists were a bit heavy handed, didn’t stop my enjoyment but did mean that I guessed what was going to happen earlier than I think the author intended. I was so into the story and routing for Jessie, there was some really clever storytelling too which meant that I kept picking my kindle up which is always a good sign. Would thoroughly recommend!

Wow, wow, wow!! What a thrill ride!! Kept me guessing the whole time!! In a stunning new way D.K. Hood has enthralled me once more. New characters, new setting, same great writing. The story of a woman waking from a coma to nothing but questions literally had me on edge trying to figure out what was coming next. Just when I thought I knew what was going on wham a twist comes out of nowhere! Well fledged out characters and situations will captivate readers new and old of D.K. Hood!! Hope that she continues in this new genre!!

First, thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

Some might say someone suffering from memory loss is a cliched that is used too often in thriller books, but I do not care. I usually just enjoy them when reading - while also beeing terrified something like this could happen to me, as well.

Anyway, cliche or not, this was a wild ride! Jessie woke up from a coma and can not remember anything. She first does trust John, her husband, to tell her the truth about everything. But then, enter Rebecca. Rebecca who says she is just a friend. Rebecca who does really spend a lot of time around John... and soon, Jessie starts to question everything. Including if she can really trust her husband now that she can not remember anything herself anymore....

Jessie Harper wakes up from a being in a coma after she and her six-year old twin daughters Emily and Olivia were in a car accident.

She hardly remembers anything so relys on her husband John to fill in the gaps for her.

This is a good read. I was interested to see how the plot unfolded and while I feel that I have read books like this before I did enjoy my reading time.

The writing makes this a pleasure to read and the tale flows well

This is a perfect read for the holiday season and I read in one sitting..

I've just wrapped up "The Liar I Married" written by D.K. Hood and it's out of blue. It kicks off with a car crash and memory loss, and from there, it’s a full-on psychological rollercoaster. Jessie wakes up to a husband who’s acting shady, a mysterious woman in the picture, and a note that says “Don’t trust anyone.” 👀 The suspense builds fast, and the amazing twists hooked on me. Totally jaw-dropping. I couldn’t stop reading—it’s one of those “just one more chapter” books that keeps you up way too late. If you love thrillers with secrets, gaslighting, and killer twists, this one’s for you! Try it.

When i first started this book i wasn't sure I would finish it ....BUT the further I got into it, the more I became hooked.. it was excellent!!
Jessie is in a coma after a car accident, upon wakening she doesn't remember the events that happened before, things are not adding up and who can she trust?? After her grandmother passed away, the whole estate was left to Jessie., but is money really the root to all evil ?? Lots of twists, definitely recommend you read this

Thank s Netgalley for my copy.

This was an okay thriller. It was quite run of the mill, the red herring was pretty obvious because it was the only one and pretty much every chapter focused on the one potential baddie, which left one other person who it could be. So in terms of the mystery element it was not there.

Some thing(s) I liked:
✅Writing was fine

Some thing(s), not so much:
⭕Totally unbelievable
⭕Annoying neurotic narrator
⭕Yucky, disgusting, terrible men doing yucky, disgusting, terrible things AND the women around them just letting it happen/ forgiving them

Book Title: The Liar I Married
Author: D. K. Hood
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: August 22, 2025
My Rating: 4.5 Stars
Pages: 271

Story is full of suspicions and is told Present Day and Then.

Story starts when Jessie Harper wakes up from a being in a coma for a year. She and six-year old twin daughters Emily and Olivia were in a car accident. When she wakes up she remembers little. She knows she is married to John.
At first she was in an induced coma to help reduce the swelling in her brain. After a month it is determined she is brain dead and her husband requests that the life-support be turned off.
Jessie doesn’t give up and remains arrive.
Now she is at home with a full time nurse. No one will tell how the girls are – she is told doctors orders are for her to remember on her own. Hamm – it appears many don’t want Jessie to remember.
Jessie remembers that her grandmother died and left her a large inheritance including the family estate – “Stonebridge Manor - which has been the family home for years.
Jessie knows that John was pushed to take control of her inheritance of the family's large holdings and investments,

Story goes back nearly a year before the accident. Jessie and John were married for eight years and she thought they were happy however now she suspects that John is having an affair. She asks her brother Michael if he might help. He informs her that John does have dinner with a woman but it is work related. Her name is Rebecca Lawson and yes she is beautiful.

I love psychological thrillers and am suspicious of everyone and in this case everyone certainly has good reason for these suspicions.
This truly was unputdownable. – A great Thriller!!

I have read several other D.K. Hood books and really enjoyed them. I read most of the Special Agent Beth Katz series and became a fan and then got on the Alton and Kane train late but totally enjoyed the ones I have read.

About the author ~ In Ms. Hood’s bio we learn that she always had a wicked sense of humor and was the kid who told the ghost stories
around the campfire.
Now enjoys writing crime, mystery and thrillers. With many stories, waiting for her to write she looks forward to sharing many spine-tingling
stories with us!!

In her Letter from D.K. Hood- she tells us that she enjoyed writing Jessie’s harrowing story. Being inside her head and unravelling her trauma was an exciting experience.
Trust me it was an exciting experience to read.

A Big Thank You to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for August 22, 2025.

What would you do if you woke up from a coma and couldn’t trust a single person around you?

Jessie wakes from a coma with no memory of the crash that nearly killed her—only to be told she caused it. But behind her husband John's forced smiles and overprotective care, something feels dangerously off. As fragments of her memory return, so do terrifying suspicions about the people closest to her. When a cryptic note warns her not to trust anyone, Jessie realizes the real threat may be lying right beside her. She’s trapped in a life that no longer feels like her own, and escaping it might cost her everything.

From the first chapter, The Liar I Married had me completely hooked. I was immediately drawn in by the eerie tension and the feeling that something was deeply wrong beneath the surface. At certain points, it reminded me of Death Row by Freida McFadden, mostly because of the coma, the memory loss, and the slow unraveling of what really happened. But this story stands solidly on its own with its gripping pace and constant atmosphere of unease. I finished it in under 24 hours because I HAD to know who could be trusted. Every character gave off suspicious energy, and that made the suspense even more addictive.

The book was easy to follow and had two different timelines (before and after the coma) and overall the story was very well rounded.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was just ok for me. The suspense is well done throughout. The storyline as a whole is on the predictable side. In a sense, it feels like a movie you may have seen years ago that you just can't remember the name of.

It is on the shorter side and a pretty quick read.
