The liar I married by D.K Hood. It started off a little slow! But when it began to pick up I loved it. There were many times I had to question the facts to see if I knew who I did it, it was an easy read, I recommend reading it.

This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. The pacing was relentless, with twists that were both shocking and perfectly plotted. The main character was sharp, flawed, and utterly compelling. I couldn’t stop turning the pages, needing to know what would happen next. If you love suspense with real emotional depth, this book delivers in every way.

You should always know someone well before you marry them. This book will keep you guessing till the very last page. Fans of K.L. Slater and Freida Mcfadden will love this one.

I don't really know what to say about this book apart from the fact I was disappointed.

For me personally it wasn't a domestic thriller which I love, I didn't particularly like the characters and found it very hard to get into the storyline.

I got bored towards the middle of the book, just too long and drawn out and the ending was poor.

The first thing I noted was formatting issues. I'm not sure if it was a NetGalley-specific issue or if the book was genuinely formatted this way, but there were many chunky paragraphs that I wish were broken up into smaller paragraphs. The writing-style reads like an airplane novel, particularly like a Freida McFadden novel in which no deep thinking is required.

The dialogue was quite cheesy and over the top but that's something I expected with this kind of novel. However, I did like the element of having an unreliable narrator. I found myself being bored by the before parts of the story. I wasn't a big fan of the twists because I feel like they came out of nowhere. Altogether, this book started out interesting but then turned into a soap opera.

Waking up after an accident without any family present—only a nurse bending over you—must be truly shocking. You're left with a whole range of questions, but this person refuses to answer them because it's supposedly better for your recovery. But how can groping around in the dark help you heal? It’s only more frustrating, and that’s exactly what you don’t need in situations like this.

Gradually, Jessie starts to realize that there’s a lot more going on, and when the truth finally surfaces, it’s no wonder she can’t believe her ears.

I’m a huge fan of this author. She writes fantastic stories that keep you on the edge of your seat, with your heart practically jumping out of your chest from the suspense.

This time, however, she treats us to a psychological thriller and once again proves that she is a talented person.

The theme of the book may not be very original, but she puts her own spin on it by creating so much confusion that I had absolutely no idea who I could trust.

Of course, I once again put my money on the wrong person, although I’m still not convinced they were as innocent as they claimed. I really hope Jessie made the right decision and doesn’t get herself into trouble again.

A story full of unreliable characters, though fortunately there are still a few who genuinely care about Jessie.

A good book with a whole stack of secrets coming to light, showing how strong family bonds can offer protection, while others are broken by betrayal and self-interest. 4 stars

Jessie has woken up from an almost year long coma. She has no memory of the accident that almost claimed her life her husband John has stayed away and she has nobody she can trust. What caused her accident and where are her twin daughters.
Huge fan of DK Hood’s books and I was worried this wouldn’t live up to them. I shouldn’t have been as this was a masterpiece!
The book flips between the present day and Jessie’s confusion, to the year leading up to her accident. We see her events that have led to her mistrust of her husband and her complete isolation from everyone she knew. In present day we feel Jessie’s confusion and frustrations.
This was fast paced but full of twists and turns. There were many reveals and most of them were completely unexpected to me. The ending tied up loose ends.
I really felt for Jessie and this was down to the excellent writing of her character, including descriptions. I didn’t trust John as I could feel Jessie’s emotions towards him.
This was a great standalone book and I recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller/mystery. I was addicted to this one and couldn’t put it down, and finished it in record time!

When Jessie gets into an accident, she wakes up with little memory of her past life, She can’t seem to trust anyone especially after everyone is not there to tell her the truth, She is alone, and she is trying to remember, but the truth is better off buried than known.

Everyone is a liar, no one is their own, but trusting is hard especially when your loved ones are hiding a lot, the truth is merely far away from her and Jessie just has to dig deeper.

I would love to go on and on about this novel, but I would never give spoilers to a good read.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves a gripping mystery novel, with intriguing characters and twists that would make one enjoy the novel more.

This is a gripping tale of lies and deceit written by a master strategist and story teller! So many tense moments and breath-holding emotions made it difficult to find a stopping point. I finally just continued on and finished the book way past midnight!

Always eager to explore the writing of D.K. Hood, I stepped away from her series work and tried this standalone thriller. The ARC is a great novel that pulled me in from the opening paragraphs and never let go! Jessie was doing well in her marriage for a number of years, until she began to suspect her husband was having an affair. While she could never prove it, her suspicions continued to appear plausible. After a horrible car accident left Jessie in a coma, things changed drastically. After she woke up, with no clear memories, it appears as though John has been trying to pull the levers on her inheritance and deem her unable to handle her company or investments. Jessie knows something is amiss and yet her accident has left everyone unsure if she is stable enough to vouch for all she is saying. D.K. Hood delivers a stunning psychological thriller, as good as her series work I have come to enjoy over the years!

Jessie had a great marriage. She and John were happy and making the most of things, until Jessie suspected he was stepping out on her. John's corporate attorney, Rebecca, was always around and had countless 'late nights' with him, something that John dismissed. Things kept getting worse and Jessie could not handle it, what with the pressure of her grandmother's death and other revelations within the family.

After a car accident left Jessie in a coma for a year, she woke up remembering nothing. Her world was turned upside down when John rarely visited and only nurses--paid for by John--showed up to take care of her. Jessie could only surmise that they were also trying to sabotage her and try to push things to the limit. As Jessie got better, her past began to come into focus. She remembered that John was pushing to take control of her family's large holdings and investments, something he continued after the accident, as he sought to show she was not of sound mind. However, with each passing day, Jessie was able to piece things together a little more. She might have been too weak to pull the rug out from under her husband, but she would not condone John's philandering ways.

Just when Jessie thought she had it all figured out, a twist sends reality and fiction into a tailspin. Jessie struggled to find the truth and hoped that she could parse at least some clear narrative together before being destitute. By the end, what was clear is as murky as coming out of a coma fog, with no one entirely free of blame. D.K, Hood delivers an addictive thriller that I could not stop reading!

There is something about a D.K. Hood novel that gets my blood pumping. The twists, the deception, the falsehoods, and that's only in the prologue. Hood has a way of crafting her narrative so the reader feels as though they are in the middle of the action, especially as things gain momentum. Characters are impactful and keep the reader wondering who they can believe, with something relatable in many who grace the pages of the book. Plot points are key to this book, which bounces from past to present, filling in gaps with each truth that surfaces. It is only when the full picture emerges that the reader can gasp aloud. A stellar effort by D.K. Hood that only strengthens my resolve to keep reading her work.

Kudos, Madam Hood, for a reading experience like few others I have had of late!

I enjoyed this psychological thriller from DK Hood, it made a nice change to the usual crime fiction, although I love those too! It was dark and suspenseful, the story of a woman who had been in a coma, when she regains consciousness she recalls that her husband John had been having an affair. Has someone tried to kill her? John or his mistress? This tense and dark story will keep you on the edge of your seat. I had a hard job putting it down! DK Hood, did a good job with this thriller, I hope that there are more coming!

This was a really dark story about a woman who wakes from a coma after an accident. She knows she is in her family home but there is no sign of her husband and when he does show up he won’t tell her anything apart from the fact she has been in a coma for a year. As she starts to piece together what happened that night she fears she can’t trust anyone and are the people caring for her on her side. Is she in more danger than she can imagine and if so how can she save herself when she is trapped in the house. Don’t miss this read it’s brilliant.

WOW D K Hood, you have outdone yourself with this new genre. I love your Kane and Alton series and have read all your books. The Liar I Married is a brilliant book and one I found hard to put down. Highly recommended and hope you write more.

The book was pathetic, writing style was very ,mediocre and the plot was nothing new. Close to DNFing but had to push through , just so to give feedback and save others from reading this.

I've read a few of the books in the Alton and Kane series (although I will admit I am horribly behind) so I was looking forward to seeing how DK Hood would tackle a slightly different genre. The Liar I Married does not disappoint and it ticks so many boxes. It was tense, with so many dislikeable characters and a few surprises along the way.

The protagonist of The Liar I Married is Jessie, who has just woken up after an accident which left her in a coma. This means that her memory is a little patchy, so as a narrator, there is always a possibility that her version of what happened may not be accurate. However, DK creates her sense of restriction and frustration so well that I found this really visceral and felt incredibly sympathetic towards Jessie. It is very difficult to know who to trust the whole way through and even towards the end, I always had my eye out for one more act of betrayal!

The Liar I Married switches between the present day and the time before the accident. As we get nearer to the time of the accident, the tension increases and I really wanted to know how the accident had happened. DK Hood has plotted the story in so much detail. There are lots of elements to bring together and this makes the story really intriguing.

I'm looking forward to reading more by this author - and I will definitely be catching up with her series soon!

What a masterpiece this book was... it had me on my toes, guessing who it was and who did it!

This book follows Jessie, a normal, wealthy woman married to a rich man named John. She believes her marriage is going well. That is, until she sees her husband with a woman named Rebecca, who is his lawyer. John convinces her that there's nothing going on between him and Rebecca. Fast forward a while later - Jessie has gotten into a car crash and cannot remember anything. People tell her it was an accident. She cannot trust anyone since she doesn't recall the time before the accident. But slowly, things start falling back in place. And someone smuggles a note into Jessie's care facility for her: 'Don't trust anyone.' Jessie is convinced her husband is behind the "accident" and begins to wonder, did he try to kill her and why?

The way I was compulsively reading this and could not put it down should give a clue as to how good this book was. There were just enough plot twists to keep me in the darkness, but still in the light for some things. Also, the characters were just *chef's kiss*. Their development was fantastic.
The best part about this book was the major plot twists since I couldn't guess a single one of them and got it wrong so many times! Not sure if that's about my IQ but... 😅 just joking but I mean it when I say this book's twists are perfect because they genuinely left my jaw on the floor. Like there are very few books that are capable of doing that.

My favourite characters are probably Jessie and Alex, but then again, that's to be expected.

I LOVE THIS BOOK AND IT IS PROBABLY IN MY TOP TEN OF 2025 (I have read 45 books this year, some tracked online and some not so...).

This book follows the story of Jessie who just woke up from a coma and has memory loss.Her marriage has been perfect until her husband,John met Rebecca. She suspects that he's cheating.
I did not enjoy this book,it felt like a chore and I could not wait to be finally done with it. The story of her grandma was more interesting than the main story that was happening through out the book and the part with Jessie's grandma was not that long and was unrelated to the plot of the car accident. All the characters were unlikable.

This is a very popular plot lately, so I was on the fence about requesting it. I mean it's very similar to others: someone causing an accident and then trying to keep things from you to kill you or steal from you etc. it was ok.

I'll be honest. I almost gave up on this book after only a few chapters. There was a lot of gaslighting happening. There was also a lot of very unlikable characters. I'm glad I stuck with it. It turned out to be a decent book. There was still a lot of unlikable characters but there was also a few really likable characters that made up for them. I liked the ending and was happy with how everything came together. This book was nothing like the Beth Katz series which are the only other books by this author that Ive read and really enjoyed.
