Oh my goodness! I thought Kane and Alton and Beth Katz series were brilliant but this stand alone book is simply outstanding! I felt like I was trapped in Jessie's nightmare along with her! Imagine waking up attached to hospital tubes and machines having been in a coma for a year and nobody telling you anything about what happened apart from you were in a car accident. Every time snatches of memory comes back and you question where your children are, or your husband or family, you're told the doctor's instructions are that you have to remember on your own. Show any agitation and you get drugged into oblivion. Who can you trust? Not your husband who you suspect of having an affair with his glamorous lawyer and with whom you argued the night of the accident; not your brother who is set to inherit a vast fortune if you die . .As memories gradually return, you remember one friend,Alex, who has been there for you throughout. If only you could call him. All phones are disconnected, your mobile removed, no access to television or media, a living nightmare!
The writing is sharp, incisive, and has you gasping in terror and claustrophobic horror.

It has me hook, line and sinker from the first page I could not put it down. I was fully engrossed right from the start!
This was an incredible book! It was so well written and soooo intriguing. I finished this in one single sitting.

It was full on twisty, suspenseful and the ending, just wait till you read that! It was unique, fast-paced psychological thriller that will keep you up all night and you won’t forget in a hurry.

I think I held my breath almost constantly for the last ten chapters. I tried going to sleep, I really did but every time I closed my eyes, I just kept thinking about this book, and I had to know how it finished and BAM, what a twist!

This is a gripping tale of lies and deceit written by a master strategist and story teller! So many tense moments and breath-holding emotions made it difficult to find a stopping point. I finally just continued on and finished the book way past midnight!

This book is filled with twists and turns that will have your head spinning. It is definitely a can’t put down read. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Review of ‘The Liar I Married’ by D. K. Hood, due to be published on 22 August 2025 by Bookouture.

When Jessie awakes from a year long coma, she struggles with her memories of what happened to put her in that state, with only a vague recollection of a car crash, and nothing of what happened to cause it.

There are lots of different character angles, told across timelines of the months leading up to the accident, and present day as Jessie begins to piece her life and memories back together.

Written so that everyone appears to have a reason for Jessie to not remember, there are several characters you start to doubt and suspect as being a villain, with many twists and turns along the way. When the truth is revealed, it’s a fitting end and makes all your suspicions make sense.

Jessie wakes after a year in a coma, unaware of the car crash that almost killed her. But now she is a virtual prisoner in her grandmothers' Connecticut mansion. She doesn't know who to trust. Gradually some memories return, but she doesn't know what is real. Where are her children? Has her grandmother's will been resolved? And is her stockbroker husband John really having an affair?

The Liar I Married is complex and involved, with a large cast of characters. Jessie suspects them all, and it seems most have secrets to hide. But somehow she must work out who is telling the truth.

The narrative is a little slow at first, but the pace builds and the reveal makes sense when we get there. Overall, a very good read.

Wow, what a book! Twists and turns and moments where I held my breath.

I didn't trust any of the characters, and eventually even suspected Jessie of being unsound of mind!

I read this in one sitting and really enjoyed the book.
But then, DK Hood knows how to get a reader's attention and hold them captive to pages!

I have only read her police procedurals, this is the first psychological thriller I have read by this author, and I recommend the book.

5/5 stars from me.

This book got off to a slow start. I thought I knew where it was headed but I was wrong. It has a few twists along the way. Stick with it. It will be worth it.

This book became so irritating.
Way to many villians and a bonkers storyline.
I felt the author went way over the top with this and its a storyline that has been done to death.
I ended up skimming through.
