Detective Katie Scott is on a "forced" vacation as directed by her Uncle (who is also her boss). Seculed in the deep woods, a young girl interrupts her vacation by directing her to a crime scene deep in the forest. A body is found hanging from a tree. As Katie examines it and tries to find cell service, the young girl disappears. Initially, the local authorities are not welcoming to Katie, but her Uncle clears the way for her to do the investigating and sends Gav (and other resources) to help her. As always with Ms. Chase's books, Katie and Gav are tested to their limits with this murder, and unfortunately subsequent ones. Their lives are threatened - and really, there's something hinky going on in this town... and on one seems to be able to tell the truth. So it's up to Katie and Gav to sort through it. Detective Katie Scott books are great reads - and a series that I look so foward to read. And considering where Ms. Chase left off, I can't wait to see what's next for Katie. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

ok i am not ok. ok wow. ok wowzas.ok breathe. and then read this book because it was incredible. its scoots itself round the side,up above, round the back to my top list of the year and quite possibly on my faves ever. and books dont get there lightly.
i was hooked and tense to this book. i was gripped and gripping my knees together at time. and i was excited to sit and then sit and then decide i was sitting there until the end.
Katie Scott is back. but she is taking a well deserved holiday. yeh right Katie who you kidding??? and her wishes are the universes command when she runs right into a new and awful case. or should we say it runs into her. because a girls comes to her door and leads her to a murder scene. ans then suddenly said girl has vanished to. sadly this very same girls also turns up dead not long after. so its up to Kate and team to get involved in another nail biter of an investigation.
lets not worry too much guys because Cisco is still here by her side(but not too close please as to be in danger). anyone else at the beginning of her books think"please dont let the dog get hurt for this one!" and that is part of why i also love these books. because Katie is a proper mother to that dog and will only bring him into the field if there is no other options. otherwise she protects her dog with her life.
i love Katie as a character. she is so human. she is flawed. she has moments of traumas returning to haunt. but somehow still she is our hero.
there are twists and turns like in any god investigation and the pacing leaves you feeling excited. its quick and then slower in all the key areas. it never lets up whether thats because something extreme is happening or because your just gathering those feelings of unease. Jennifer's writing is like coming home. and this series too. you know its going to be good. you have so much comfort from the writing style and stories involved because each and every time its knocked out the park. whilst also bringing us that familiarity of a gang we've all come to care about and love.

Even when she is forced to take time away, Detective Katie Scott cannot get away from work. When a woman's body is found near the cabin where she is staying, Katie gets dragged into a murder investigation. A second body heats up the case, and she brings her team to the strange small mountain town. Not only are clues confusing, but the small town's police force seems to disappear. Katie and her partner must push themselves to solve the murders before the unsub strikes again. In the midst of the investigation, Katie wrestles with romantic feeling for her longtime colleague and friend. Is this a new opportunity for her, if she survives the investigation. I can't wait to see what's next for Katie.

Another addition to this series and definitely one that will keep you up late. Katie is sent on a mandatory vacation by her uncle because feels she needs down time. She and Cisco go off to relax in a cabin on the woods and end up to their eyeballs in a murder. Excellent story, interesting characters . Maybe the start of a romance. Can be read as a standalone but more enjoyed if you know the back stories of all the characters

Detective Katie Scott and her K-9 partner, Cisco were about to enjoy a 2 week vacation in a cabin about an hour from her job at the Pine Valley Sheriff's department. She planned rest and relaxation, no people just peace. When she arrived, she and Cisco moved into the small cabin, planned dinner then took off for a run to burn off exercise from the drive. Not long after, there was a knock at the door.
The Whispering Girls will be published by Bookouture on August 20, 2025. I was able to read and review Chase’s latest novel via NetGalley. It is an interesting series full of suspense and an intriguing plot. My first in her series, I was able to jump right into the character’s temperament. The Whispering Girls is a cozy mystery and quite enjoyable. Do enjoy!

Solid police procedural with the added bonus of Cisco, the show stealing K9! Likeable team and a rustic setting where all resources aren't available, so increased tension! You may guess the bad guy, but still a fun read - and of course, Cisco!

I really enjoyed this book,I love detective stories and this was a really good one. Great writing and a brilliant plot. I have not heard of Jennifer Chase before so will be checking out more of her books would definitely recommend this book

This was my first book in the Katie Scott and K9 Cisco series, but it won’t be my last. What a great mystery, with well developed characters and plots intertwined. I can’t wait to go back and download the earlier books to read. Just a good solid read.
Thx to #Netgalley for the digital ARC of #TheWhisperingGirls.

Another great addition to the Katie Scott series, not forgetting Cisco the dog. As Katie is on vacation at a quiet woodland cabin, a body is discovered nearby. With no back up, and worsening weather, Katie is called to assist local officers to track down the killer. The suspense built throughout the book, right to the end and there were some interesting characters throughout, especially Jack the vet. This is quite an addictive read and fans of thrillers will surely enjoy the ride. A series I highly recommend, although this could easily be a stand alone read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Detective Katie Scott and her K9 Cisco are on some mandatory rest days in an isolated cabin. When a girl comes to the door, Katie is lead to a murder victim. When the girl disappears and later turns up dead, Katie’s partner McGaven comes to join her as they begin a deadly investigation.
Wow as soon as this popped up on NetGalley I had to have it. Fast paced and exciting, there was twists with every page turner. I enjoyed being as puzzled as Katie as I also couldn’t put the clues together, and the big ending was so unexpected for me. These characters are really well written and by book 14 I feel like they are old friends. As always, Cisco is my favourite!
This kept me on the edge of my seat, the story is addictive and I couldn’t put it down. One that definitely had me on edge as the tension built. Highly recommend this one to everyone!

Katie is enjoying a well-deserved vacation—or at least she’s supposed to be—but boredom quickly sets in, and she secretly starts counting down the days until she can return home and get back to work.
But do detectives ever really get time off? It seems like trouble always finds Katie, and it doesn’t take long before she’s knee-deep in a new, complex case. Thankfully, she has the support of her partner Gav, and of course, Cisco is never far behind. She’ll definitely need their help, because danger is once again lurking from all sides.
The author masterfully (pun intended 😉) creates an eerie atmosphere that grips the story from start to finish. Storms, snow, and a forest form the perfect backdrop for chilling scenes. I literally got goosebumps.
Katie is a beautifully written character. Despite the trauma she’s endured—and still suffers from, often at the worst moments—she doesn’t let it throw her off. She always manages to push through her fears to save victims or bring murderers to justice.
I also love how she protects her loyal four-legged friend and only brings him into action when there’s truly no other option. Much to Cisco’s dismay, of course, as he would gladly be part of every adventure from start to finish, front and center.
People kill for all sorts of reasons, but one thing is always central: self-interest.
I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent story and was thrilled with the romantic twist at the end.
Oh, and one more thing—did I guess the identity of the killer? No, of course not. So the suspense kept me hooked right until the very end. Fantastic! 5 stars.
Thank you

The Whispering Girls is a fast-paced thriller that keeps you hooked from the first page.
Detective Katie Scott is back, along with her partner Gavin and dog Cisco. They are investigating a series of disturbing crimes. Everything is not as it seems. Will they figure it out before it is too late??
This book delivers suspense, strong characters, and just the right amount of psychological tension to keep you reading.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy for an honest review.

I highly recommend this series—it's such an addictive read! Katie is taking a two-week rest break with her dog Cisco in a remote wooden cabin. Her peace is shattered when a young girl knocks on her door, saying she’s found a woman. Katie goes with her, but sadly, the woman has been murdered. The sheriff isn’t friendly toward Katie at first, but then he asks her to take over the case. It’s a gripping and creepy story—someone clearly doesn’t want Katie uncovering the truth.

Couldn't wait to get my greedy little hands on this latest Detective Katie Scott thriller.
And I wasn't disappointed.
Very difficult case came up while Katie was supposedly on a two week break and gets put in charge of a homicide while she is away.
There are clues, and suspects, and the suspects are eliminated one by one by Katie and her team.
Cisco is the saviour of the day when John goes missing. What a good boy he is!
Obviously, the final reveal of who the killer is comes as a big surprise.
4.5/5 stars from me.
Can't wait for the next in the series.
