I always get excited when Emily Shiner writes a new thriller!!! This book Uninvited had me hooked from the very first page! A lot of great twists were thrown in and she kept me guessing until the very end. She writes a lot like Freida McFadden who I LOVE!!! This is book #5 by Emily that I’ve read and I can’t wait to read more of her great thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

The various secrets of the various characters kept me going and I'm glad I stuck around because the twist and that ending?

I'm just saying : "wait, WHAT"

I didn't particularly like any of the characters but they were intriguing and the dual POV was also good executed.

Thank you for providing me this arc!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

The Uninvited by Emily Shiner is a tense, twisty psychological thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. The atmosphere is eerie and claustrophobic, with unreliable characters and short, addictive chapters that made it impossible to put down.

The tension builds slowly but never lets up, leading to a satisfying (and chilling!) payoff. My only minor gripe was a plot element near the end that felt a bit too convenient - otherwise, this was a fantastic read.

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden or Ruth Ware. Emily Shiner delivers suspense in spades!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I loved this book. At no point did I guess what was going to happen next and love the back and forth timelines.

Emily Shiner does a amazing concept in the psychological thriller element in this book, I was invested in what was happening and how the mystery element was used to tell the story. The characters were everything that I was looking for and enjoyed how good the concept worked with them, I was invested in what was happening and how everything worked together. It was written in a way that worked with what I was looking for and was hooked from start to finish.

Rating: 2.5/3 stars

This book started off strong — the beginning was captivating and instantly drew me in. However, as the story progressed, things began to feel messy and disorganized, which left me quite confused at times.

The plot twist didn’t land the way I hoped; it felt a bit underwhelming and didn’t meet my expectations. The characters were frustrating and often acted in ways that felt unreasonable — though I did feel genuinely sorry for Aimee.

As for the ending, I found it hard to fully grasp or connect with. That said, I can’t deny that I still enjoyed the experience overall.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this! I’m definitely open to exploring more from this author in the future.#uninvited

Synopsis:
Aimee thinks she’s finally moved on after Dale’s betrayal. They’re engaged and headed to Miami for a relaxing vacation to reconnect. But when they arrive, they discover that Dale’s affair partner, Hannah, is not only staying at the same resort she’s right next door. And she’s not alone. Hannah brings a mysterious man named Mitch with her, and their sudden presence on this romantic trip is anything but accidental.

Secrets are bubbling beneath the surface Aimee has one, Hannah knows it, and someone on this trip won’t make it home. As tensions rise and power shifts, Uninvited turns into a psychological game of survival.

Review:
Told in alternating POVs between Aimee and Hannah, the story is fast-paced, filled with short, snappy chapters that keep the tension high. I really enjoyed the setup two women, both damaged and driven, locked in a dangerous game under the hot Miami sun. The tropical setting made for a great contrast to the dark undertones of betrayal, manipulation, and revenge.

That said, I struggled to connect emotionally with either character. Both were written to be unreliable and complex, but at times, their behavior bordered on unbelievable. The drama occasionally felt forced, and a few plot points required suspension of disbelief. Still, there were enough twists and turns especially toward the end to keep me flipping pages.

The final twist? I didn’t see that coming. It was a bold move that gave the book an extra punch.

If you’re a fan of domestic thrillers packed with secrets and revenge, Uninvited is worth picking up. Just don’t expect to like anyone involved.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC if this book.

Unfortunately I wasn’t a massive fan of The Uninvited. The story felt a little flat and none of the characters were particularly likeable. There were moments where I wanted to dnf but I pushed through and despite guessing the twists I was still satisfied with how they played out.

Overall this book is probably a 2/5 for me.

I have read a couple of Emily's books at this point and I want to say that this is where I would put this story as well.

Her books have a similar format and layout that make them easy to read while somewhat predictable. I do like her ability to have multiple POVs but also two different timelines.

While I really didn't understand the last line of the story it did set up for a potential second book. Overall I would read again great thriller.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this book, with my honest review below.

Uninvited is most definitely a thriller that really embraces the idea of a Russian doll of secrets. Opening with Aimee, who is engaged to (living mold ridden pineapple) Dale and ready to leave him post a trip to the beach that he thinks is to reconnect after he cheated on her, but she knows is to buy time for her friends to move her out of their shared apartment. From the jump the vacation becomes rocky, not just because Aimee has to avoid any intimacy with Dale, but because his CrossFit buddies, including Hannah, the women who cheated on Aimee with, also show up on the on the vacation.

As it happens both these ladies are hiding secrets and are out for revenge, for which both try some methods that are… interesting. I enjoyed the twist of events (let’s just say it involves Dale being used as a mold ridden fruit should be) and the epilogue was especially delicious.

Well that was unexpected! I could not put this book down. I loved the different points of view and the things that were revealed as time went on and in the end. Definitely a page-turner that you don't want to take a break from! I very much appreciate this ARC from NetGalley.

This was not my favorite. It was so over the top ridiculous that it felt like a soap opera. The characters are completely unlikeable and I felt like their motives were jumping all over the place from page to page. Like who’s on first here? I also figured out two of the major twists before the end. I just didn’t buy the story line at all. It was just too much for me. Multiple eye rolls while I was reading this. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the advanced ecopy in exchange for an honest review.

First, thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

At this point, Emily Shiner surely is also on my list of auto-buy authors - not that I would need more, my poor wallet....

Anyway - in this story we do meet Aimee, her fiancé Dale - who want to go onto a holiday together - and then, totally unexpected, also Hannah. Hannah is there with her own boyfriend. And she is also Dale's mistress. Aimee could surely use this to her advantage. But she does decide against it. After all, this is her ticket to destroy Dale. The only problem is - Hannah does want to destroy Aimee, as well...

All-in-all, another great read full of tension and suspense, told in the POV of both Hannah and Aimee, and switching between the past and present. The pub date for this one is August 20th, so make sure you are not going to miss out!

I really enjoyed Uninvited. It follows the story of Aimee who has discovered her fiancée cheated on her, and the two go on holiday - Her fiancée, Dale, hoping that the holiday will reconnect them, Aimee - who is using the holiday so her friends can move her out of his place. What they don't expect, is Hannah - the mistress. Dale doesn't think that Aimee knows who Dale cheated with - but she does, and she has plotted her revenge. What she doesn't know, is that Hannah knows who she really is and that she has been hiding a large secret for her youth and Hannah wants revenge. The story is in 3 POV - Hannah, Aimee, and one called 'Then' which goes into what happened in the past. This is a fast paced story, filled with twists and turns in each chapter.

A vacation with a fiance you hate and the woman he hd an affair with, what could possibly go wrong? This book wove a tale of deceit and revenge across two timelines. Told from the point of view of Aimee the hurt fiancee and Hannah the mistress. Not all is as it seems between the women and revenge for an affair is not all they are after. Fast paced thriller that leaves you guessing and the twist will leave you shook!

Uninvited started off strong — the premise pulled me in right away, and I found myself intrigued throughout. I especially enjoyed the structure, with its back-and-forth timeline that slowly peeled back layers of the past and present. It was fun trying to piece together what was really going on.

That said, I didn’t find the characters very likeable, which made it harder to connect emotionally. And the ending? It felt so far-fetched that I honestly wondered if a different author had taken over. It took a sharp turn that didn’t quite match the tone or logic of the rest of the book.

Overall, it was a quick and entertaining read, but not the most carefully plotted story.

Emily Shiner’s Uninvited is a chilling psychological thriller that explores the terrifying unraveling of trust, safety, and sanity within the walls of a seemingly perfect home. With her signature knack for tension and emotional suspense, Shiner delivers a tightly woven story that keeps readers constantly on edge. The novel centers on a woman whose life begins to spiral when an uninvited guest infiltrates her home—and her sense of control. What begins as an act of kindness quickly turns into a nightmare as secrets are exposed, intentions questioned, and the line between victim and villain starts to blur. Shiner masterfully manipulates perspective and pacing, offering just enough insight to make you question every character’s motives. Set against a backdrop of domestic normalcy, the creeping dread is all the more effective. Shiner explores themes of isolation, deception, and the vulnerability that lies beneath the surface of everyday life. Her prose is taut and immersive, drawing readers into a world where the real terror comes not from outside forces, but from the ones we let in. With well-timed twists and an unsettling atmosphere, Uninvited is a gripping read for fans of domestic suspense and psychological thrillers. It’s a story that reminds us how quickly comfort can turn into chaos—and how danger often wears the face of a friend.

Taut with tension from the very first page, this psychological thriller is packed with drama and suspense.
The dual narrative from Aimee and Hannah is expertly written, pulling you into a web of deceit and long-held desire for revenge.
When Aimee's weekend getaway with her fiancé Dale is crashed by Hannah and her 'partner,' the air crackles with unspoken animosity. As the plot unfolds, past events are slowly unveiled, justifying Hannah's desire for revenge while also exposing the shocking secrets each character holds.
The pacing is relentless, making it an utterly gripping, one-sitting read perfect for a day at the beach.
My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced copy. This is my honest opinion.
