This was a quick domestic thriller/mystery. Unfortunately it didn’t hit the spot to get 4 stars.

Name :- Uninvited
Author :- Emily Shiner
Genre :- Psychological Thriller
In Uninvited, Emily Shiner serves up a sun-drenched psychological thriller soaked in betrayal, obsession, and revenge. What begins as an extravagant getaway quickly turns into a pressure cooker of old grudges and hidden agendas. Aimee thought she could forgive Dale’s infidelity—at least enough to enjoy their luxury vacation. But everything spirals when Dale’s former mistress, Hannah, shows up at the same exclusive resort… with her new boyfriend. Coincidence? Aimee doesn’t think so—and neither does the reader. As tensions simmer beneath designer sunglasses and polite smiles, it becomes clear that Hannah has her own dangerous game to play—and Aimee isn't as innocent as she pretends. With both women holding secrets and both unwilling to lose, someone’s not making it out of Florida alive.
Likes and Dislikes:-
Likes:-
1 Cat-and-mouse dynamics: Aimee and Hannah’s psychological warfare keeps the pages turning.
2 Tight pacing: The story wastes no time—every chapter adds new layers of tension.
Dislikes :-
1 A few twists were easy to spot early on.
2 The men (especially Dale) feel underdeveloped compared to the sharply drawn female leads.
Overall, Uninvited is a slick, fast-paced thriller that proves paradise can be anything but peaceful.
My Rating 4/5.

An unpredictable, high stakes, revenge driven psychological thriller! This was the first book I’ve read by Emily Shiner. I greatly appreciated her fast paced, twisted, character driven writing style. She closely mirrors author, Frieda McFadden, because the narrative is accessible and engaging.

“Uninvited” centered on Aimee and her fiancé, Dale. They escaped to a luxurious beachside resort in Florida, hoping to mend their relationship after Dale’s affair with Hannah. But their romantic getaway turned into a nightmare when Hannah and her boyfriend, Mitch, unexpectedly arrived at the same resort. Hannah harbored a long-standing grudge against Aimee. Hannah had a revenge plot years in the making. As lies and manipulation cascade, alliances shifted unpredictably and the tension sharpened toward a shocking culmination.

The story alternated between Aimee’s and Hannah’s viewpoints as well as the then and now timelines, giving insight into their thoughts and secrets, and the backstory. This back-and-forth helped reveal how each experienced the same events differently, adding layers to the story. It also kept the suspense high by making me unsure whom to trust and what each character’s true intentions were.

The narrative dealt with themes like betrayal and revenge. It showed how past grudges could lead to dangerous situations. It also focused on deception and manipulation. The characters used their secrets and lies to gain control or cause harm. Trust was a big issue in the story. It made me question how well anyone really knew the people around them. The book blurred the lines between who was right and wrong and explored the complicated effects of trauma and emotional struggles on relationships. All these themes worked together to create a tense and emotionally charged story full of suspense.

What stood out to me most was the gripping, high-stakes tension paired with deeply flawed, complex characters. Their unpredictable actions and hidden motives added real depth to the story, making it both emotionally engaging and suspenseful. This powerful combination kept me hooked from beginning to end. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers packed with unpredictable characters, intense drama, and shocking twists, “Uninvited” will satisfy you.

Twisty, suspenseful, jaw dropping, and page turner. Emily has done it again! A small vacation to rekindle a romance, when two uninvited guests that the boyfriend knows shows up, what can go wrong? Murder, deceit, and secrets is everything you need in a novel

Uninvited was a fantastically fun read!

I loved to hate everyone in this novel. Aimee's thoughts are hilarious, the moment she described finding her fiancé's lover "spread out on the table like a buffet" I knew she was going to be a great main character.

The epilogue was haunting...!!

A 5-star read. Recommended!

In this intricately constructed psychological thriller, the promise of a romantic weekend retreat with a fiancé swiftly devolves into a harrowing and suspense-laden ordeal. What begins as a seemingly intimate getaway is swiftly disrupted by the unexpected arrival of additional guests—each bringing with them a fresh layer of ambiguity, manipulation, and veiled threat. The result is a tightly plotted narrative rife with duplicity and escalating tension.

The author exhibits exceptional command of the genre, employing misdirection and narrative sleight-of-hand to keep readers in a near-constant state of uncertainty. From the outset, it becomes evident that no character can be taken at face value. Trust is an unstable currency, and the boundaries between victim, perpetrator, and opportunist remain in flux throughout.

The novel is a study in shifting allegiances and the corrosive nature of self-interest. Characters present carefully curated personas, all while orchestrating their own clandestine objectives. Alliances are formed out of convenience rather than loyalty—and as quickly as they are established, they fracture under the weight of hidden motives and personal gain.

A particularly compelling aspect of the narrative is its game-like structure. At times, the dynamics evoke a strategic contest in which one believes they hold the upper hand, only to discover they have been outplayed by a more astute adversary. The psychological maneuvering is relentless, and the consequences often brutal. This sensation of perpetual uncertainty—of being led into one trap after another—imbues the novel with a relentless pace and a palpable sense of dread.

For readers drawn to thrillers set against the backdrop of idyllic locations turned sinister, this novel offers a gripping, character-driven experience. The cast is deeply flawed, their secrets corrosive, and their interactions increasingly volatile.

Ultimately, this is a work that exemplifies the power of psychological suspense—deftly written, structurally ambitious, and unflinchingly dark. The author, already an established force within the genre, reaffirms her place among contemporary thriller luminaries with a novel that demands to be read in a single, breathless sitting.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. After an affair, Aimee and Dale take a vacation only to end up vacationing with the girl he cheated with and her boyfriend. What starts out as a domestic drama situation, quickly evolves into a high stakes thriller as old secrets are brought to the surface. I couldn’t believe the twists in the scandal in this book. I was gasping at every chapter as a new secret or twist was uncovered. The plot was really good and easy to follow, and it’s really hard to put this book down! I couldn’t wait to see how everything exploded as I read.

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden who want a binge-worthy, twisty read. I absolutely love unreliable narrators and when there’s two, it’s even better. A perfectly webbed dual timeline with a twist that will leave readers needing more! Because what the heck! Can we PLEASE get a book that gives the backstory to the Epilogue? Also, I NEED to know what happens next! I know the readers in the Psychological Thriller Readers Facebook group will devour this and I’m so ready to discuss with fellow readers. I cannot wait to read more from Emily Shiner!

Uninvited was a riveting tale of a love gone awry while vacationing to make things better. Beautifully written from the perspective of two women, battling to be one step ahead in what ends up being an engaging, riveting end that I most definitely did not see coming. Emily Shiner does it again!

This vacation thriller is the perfect summer read! So addictive, it should come with a warning. I read it in a weekend—a busy one. Emily Shiner handles the dual timeline masterfully as the book toggles between the protagonist's teen years and her present life as a woman engaged to a cheater. That's not the half of it, though. Everyone has something to hide, and nobody can be trusted, right up to the last sentence. Highly recommended!
