My four year old quite liked the illustrations in this book, but he wasn't very impressed by the story. He rather liked the idea of catching a friend, but getting a friend just because you give up the hunt and sit there crying didn't appeal to him. And I have to confess, that the alternative to catching a friend didn't appeal to me too. |
Arthur really wants a friend, so he tried so many different ways to catch one. Of cause he failed and then Lily came to rescue him by becoming his friend. This is a wonderful story. People always need friends, not just children. This story shows that sometimes if we tried too hard, nobody wants to be our friends. And sometimes we also need to listen to how our friends feel and be a good friend. Can't wait to share it with my kids. |

A fun book on how to make friends. Added goodreads Added Litsy |
This is a wonderful, cute story to use with young children heading off to school (pre-school, kindergarten) for the first time. Arthur wants to make a friend, but he doesn't know how to do it. He tries various things without success (catching one by grabbing, trapping, chasing etc.). When he gives up and sits quietly crying, he is approached by Lily who offers to be his friend. They play together, share, make believe, have problems but work things out. I love the illustrations; they're so cute. I also like the concept of making friends. The ending is great. A new character arrives and wants a friend so the listener is asked to help her based on what was learned in the story. The story is told in rhyme, with some pages being better than others. A fun book to share with kids and talk about how to be a good friend. A book that would do well in pre-school and kindergarten classrooms as well as family libraries. |

This beautifully illustrated story serves as a nice how-to guide for making friends at school or daycare. This is highly recommended for the preschool crowd, or for children who are soon to adventure out into new group situations. |
Loved this book. Such a simple message but a great one. |

Thank you Netgalley for this advance review copy for an honest review. Arthur is 3 and has just started nursery and all he wants is a friend. But he doesn't know how to make one. Luckily Lily is much better and they are soon besties.....but can he keep her as a friend. This book is certainly aimed at present school kids just starting nursery but my 5 going on 15 year old loved it. It was easy for her to read and although she's always made friends easily she was able to understand why some kids in her class act out a little so it's a great story to get kids to understand empathy a bit as well. 5 out of 5 and a hard copy demanded from my short person! |
