This was a great second book in the Ruby Preston series. Young women are being murdered and their bodies being staged in public as fairy tale characters. Things turn personal when evidence is found that implicates her former lover Nathan. - Nathan doesn't do himself any favours when he goes into hiding. I really like the character Ruby although did find the numbers of characters challenging to keep up with. I look forward to the next installment. |
This is the second entry in the DCI Ruby Preston series, in which a murderer is targeting prostitutes and brutally torturing and killing them before putting them on display as a popular fairytale character. I found this to be an interesting plot and I enjoyed the mystery as I read. However, I found this to be pretty dry throughout a great chunk of it. |
Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will enjoy. |
Sleep tight by Caroline Mitchell. Close your eyes … Just pray you don’t wake up. A killer stalks the streets of East London. All over the area, murdered young women are discovered, their bodies posed into disturbing recreations of fairytale princesses. Detective Ruby Preston is determined to hunt down the murderer who is using the women to realise his dark fantasies. But when body parts are found at the home of her lover, Nathan Crosby, Ruby is torn between her job and her heart. Convinced that he is being framed, Ruby must catch the killer before Nathan becomes the number one suspect. But as more victims are found, it becomes harder to prove his innocence. As Ruby starts to close in on the twisted individual, can she stop him before he strikes again? And how well does she really know the man she loves? This was an absolutely fantastic read I loved the story. Some characters I liked some I didn't. I loved ruby and nathan. Looking forward to the next book. 5*. Highly recommended. |
Ruby Preston is a born rule breaker and isn't about to change the habits of a lifetime for anyone and so when bodies start piling up alarmingly she goes about solving it in her own way and gets the necessary result. A great read for those who love feisty female leads plus gruesome murders. I loved it and was intrigued from the start - definitely a page turner to the very end and would be a great way to pass time on a long journey! |
Bookouture and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Sleep Tight. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given. DS Ruby Preston of the Shoreditch Police Department is called to the scene of a perplexing murder of a young woman, posed and naked for the world to see. Working with DI Jack Downes, they get an unexpected break in identifying the victim when her mother reports her missing. As Ruby utilizes her connections with the underbelly of society, she soon realizes that there is a dangerous criminal at work in her town. Will the investigation yield results before there are more victims? Ruby's weakness just might get her into the type of trouble that for which she cannot remove herself. Ruby Preston is a good cop who skirts the line of legality when it suits her. She is really tested in Sleep Tight, when someone close to Ruby becomes a suspect. The story is well paced with good main characters. The actual crimes went a little long, as I would have liked to have seen more time spent on the investigative portion of the book. It is not necessary to have read the previous Ruby Preston novel, but it would help to know some of the nuances of her character. I would recommend Sleep Tight to readers who like mystery thrillers and I look forward to reading more by author Caroline Mitchell in the future. |
Young women are turning up dead and posed as fairytale characters in this second installment of Detective Ruby Preston series. Ruby Preston and her team or on the case but this time the stakes are high as the killer is framing her boyfriend Nathan Crosby for the crimes. Will Ruby be able to keep her professional and personal life separate before all this blows up in her face? A dark, gritty series this book is a great follow up and has enough twists and turns in the plot to keep you guessing till the end. A fast paced thriller that I devoured in one day I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review. RATINGS: 4 STARS (I received an ARC from the NETGALLEY) (Review Not on Blog) Ruby is back for another intriguing and suspenseful novel. Her past is back with Nathan being framed for murder, or at least she believes he is innocent. As she tries to catch the real killer, more bodies lead back to Nathan. I recommend this book for any fans of Karin Slaughter! |
My Review: 5/5 I listened to the Audiobook and seriously could not stop listening once I started. I don’t know why it took me so long to read this after the first Ruby Preston book, Death Note. I forgot how much I loved Ruby. She is not your typical detective. Ruby runs with some of the bad guys, being romantically linked to Nathan who has underground crime ties. I have to admit, this makes me love Ruby even more! Maybe it’s because I’ve claimed Nathan as my ‘book boyfriend’, but there is something so intriguing about the good girl with the bad guy. I love how she takes matters into her own hands and uses her ‘connections’ when following the rules just isn’t an option. This story is beyond creepy. I don’t get weirded out too easily, but oh my gosh! Girls have gone missing (prostitutes actually) and are later found completely transformed into a fairy princess. The killer, we learn, is living out his fantasy of leaving his mark on the world, his art. The kicker? The transformation happens while the victim is still alive. UGH!!! I cannot even imagine first being kidnapped, then being drugged, only to wake up to THAT! When Nathan is a suspect, Ruby realized she must dive in head first to the case. Secrets are revealed…will Ruby and Nathan make it? This author and series are quickly rising to become my favorites. Her writing is top-notch. If I were reading the book, I don’t think I could have turned the pages fast enough. Since I was listening I had to be more patient, but it was so worth it! The narrator also deserves great props as well, as she did a superb job! Highly, highly recommend!!! |
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this book. I am just not interested in this book anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience. |
I missed the first in the series and MUST GO BACK. What a fantastic book this was. Who doesn't like fairytales?? And to use them in serial killing - lord help me, I feel like i'm back in my teens with a twisted mind and I love it!! The author is extremely talented and I love how she portrays not only the relationships between the characters but the realistic pressure the police officers face. I like it when you don't have to figure out who the killer is .. now it's a matter of why he's so sadistic and the cat and mouse chase. This is a thrill a minute ride and I suggest it for anyone who loves that wicked antagonist that will surely send chills down your spine. |
This is the second book in the Detective Ruby Preston series, and it is honestly even better than the first book!!! I just love Caroline's book, and usually devours them very quickly.... to my detriment, because then I have to wait for the next one! An absolute thrilling MUST read book, please do yourself the favor, and read this one! Recommended. |
I am really enjoying this series. Ruby Preston is a Detective who has an interesting relationship with Nathan Crosby. This was easy to read and follow. I look forward to reading the third installment. |
Eeeek! Once again, Caroline Mitchell has WOW'd me with this twisted and chilling story! DS Ruby Preston is fast becoming one of my favourite fictional detectives and I cannot bloody wait to read the next in this series. Full review to follow on my blog www.crimebookjunkie.co.uk |
Book 2 in the Detective Ruby Preston series. In this book Ruby and her team are investigating killings where women are being murdered and their corpses are disturbingly being left posed into fairytale re-creations. Whilst Ruby and her team are trying frantically to arrest the killer, we also have the relationship between Ruby and Nathan developing. When body parts are found st Nathan's house ,he goes into hiding and is immediately under suspicion , however Ruby is sure he is being framed. The way the author has described certain scenes in the book had my heat pounding at times and I'm glad I don't have a phobia of small furry animals !!! This is a book that will have you hooked from the start and one you won't want to put down. Finally, I just loved the fact that my name appeared in this book, it's so rare that my name appears anywhere 😊😊 My thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Caroline Mitchell for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. My review is entirely based on my own honest opinion. |
A cracking series. Detective Ruby Preston is a fantastic character. Her relationship with Nathan Crosby causes her quite a few problems as he is from a renowned criminal family. N this the second in the series, Nathan is the prime suspect for the murders of young women. A gripping crime thriller which has numerous twists and turns . Highly recommend! |
I will admit that I did not read the first Ruby Parker novel in the series - and so this was my first introduction to Ruby, her squad and her complicated background. I really enjoyed the first 30% of this book - it was fast paced, it was well written, and it was obviously well researched. Ruby is the detective lead on a young woman's murder ... which very quickly expands to a second murder victim. With a serial killer on loose, and her former lover being framed for the murders, Ruby is racing against the clock to find the murderer and save Nathan. I found that it started to get very repetitive ... we spent so much time going over the same things - a female victim being tortured, Ruby going over her past relationship with Nathan, Ruby hating her flat, Ruby not wanting to take Nathan's help ... over and over. After all of that the ending felt flat and rushed ... Ruby was able to catch her criminal and after 67 chapters of blah blah blah everything is solved within just a few ... and wrapped with a nice bow. A little too quick and easy of an ending - more of the middle could have been purged and focus gone into the ending - which would have tied in the ending better with the rest of the story as well. Sleep Tight was ok, but could have been better. |
Well I seem to have fallen a little behind in my reading, and I'm playing catch up with some fantastic books. And here we have another amazing read by the very talented Caroline Mitchell. I read and enjoyed the first book to feature Ruby Preston - Death note. So I was really looking forward to starting this. I started it as soon as little one had gone to school, and I'd raced round the house with the hoover and duster, just to make it look like I wasn't entirely lazy. This book then managed to take over my day. I sat down with it, and occasionally got up to make my self a cuppa, but I was soon sat down again each time clutching my kindle, enthralled in the pages of the book. I was there with Ruby, working the case with her. Ruby is one awesome character, her work/private life has a tough balance. And sometimes the two just can't help but cross over. Women are going missing and being murdered, It's down to Detective Ruby Preston and her team to investigate. Things seem a little to straight forward when they think they have the suspect early on in the case. But when another body is found it seems the police need to look elsewhere. Nathan Crosby is Ruby's on off lover, the father of her child. As much as she tries to resist him there is chemistry between then can not be ignored. Nathan soon becomes prime suspect when body parts are found under his bed. Does Nathan have anything to do with the murders or is he, like he says being set up. Ruby is torn between her job and her feelings for super criminal Nathan. And it's going to take a lot for her to manage her job and her feelings. An exceptional nail biting tense read. I would have no problems what so ever recommending this book and the previous book to anyone who likes a heart pumping, nail biting read. I look forward to reading more from this author. |
