I kind of liked this book. It was a fun read.
If you love dinosaurs and the Amazon give this a go.
It's a really easy read but I wanted more. It's short and I mean short. But It's written at a good pace.

Perfect for early chapter book readers who are also dinosaur enthusiasts. Environmental concerns with the Amazon rainforest are mixed in with dinosaur facts throughout the story. Seeing prehistoric times through Matt's eyes with his special ability was a nice touch. Overall good read.

I read this book to my son who loves dinosaurs and he was intrigued with it but was hoping for more dinosaur content.

It has complex issues in it they would probably need additional discussion. These could include environmental issues, poverty, and cultural norms. Matt has an amazing talent but the book is really about a trek through the Amazon . I was hoping that it would be more about dinosaurs. Interesting read for children I think 5~8. I rratete it a 3.5.

The Dinosaur Detectives in The Amazon Rainforest (The Dinosaur Detectives #1) by Stephanie Baudet is a sweet and fun book for any child who just loves dinosaurs. It has some amazing facts and lots of information about them.
I love this story its about a young lad called Matt who is 12. He is allowed to join his dad on an exciting search for dinosaur eggs in the Amazonian rainforest. Matt wants to be a palaeontologist just like his dad who is a well-respected palaeontologist and artist. Unfortunately, his annoying eleven year old cousin, Jo, gets to come along. Matt then finds out another group will be searching as well and he is not happy about this as well.. Who will find the dinosaur egg first?

This was a fun little book, packed with heaps of information and facts.
I struggled to get started with it, but once I got going, it was not disappointing.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, which is a great story about a boy who can touch dinosaur eggs and see the original dinosaur. The book was quite short, and I'd recommend it more for younger readers, especially those who are dinosaur obsessed! I really enjoyed the environmental themes which were intertwined with the story as well,
I have high hopes for the rest of this series.

This is a really good read for all those middle schoolers who have a passion for adventure and dinosaurs. It remains interesting and at times fast-paced while being easy to follow and enjoyable. Matt has just turned 12 and has a curious ability to touch a dinosaur egg and see the creature as it would have been in life, Along with his dad, a well-respected palaeontologist and artist, he is allowed to go on his first dig, however, much to Matt's annoyance others get to come along too, not all off then invited. His cousin Jo is one of the expedition, but her interests are more with the illegal logging taking place in the Amazon forest setting than on dinosaur eggs. How this gets them both into trouble and how the uninvited followers all fit in to this adventure you will have to read to find out.
Reading this book will introduce you to a set of characters that I am sure you and your children will enjoy following in their future adventures. I for one am looking forward to the next episode of Matt and his father.

While I can see its potentioal for younger children, It wasnt for me. It wasnt bad, and if you enjoy reading about what its like to go travelling through a rainforest then this is a really good book. But it just confirmed why Id never be going into one. There is alot of information about fhe animals and insects so if that is also an intrest for you, then you would prob enjoy this book. Aimed at middle grade readers, ones a bit older or younger may even enjoy it.

This reminds me of another popular adventure series and I think there's potential. If your child likes reading about dinosaurs and is in maybe second or third grade, I think it's worth a shot. My child is a bit too young and it didn't keep his interest. Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read this book!

My Son (12 yr) and I read this together. He isn't really a reader, but he loved this. We will be looking for more from this author!

I am a massive dinosaur fan so was delighted when I was given an ARC of this book!
It is a very easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot was well executed and it had a really good pace. Looking forward to reading more of the same.

The book has the potential to attract children curious about travel and science, as well as mystery. It is slow paced, simply written and eyes opening about the relationship with adults, girls and how to act in a completely foreign and unknown environment. A pleasant lecture!

Dinosaurs and the Amazon rainforest have been my thing since I was little, so I had to give this a shot. It's a fun, quick, and informative read for grade schoolers... I know I would have loved it when I was a kid.

Matt is 12, and he has a special ability--the ability to hold a dino egg and see what the dinosaur looked like in the past. Matt is excited that he's finally old enough to tag along on an expedition with his dad, a paleontologist and paleo-artist, to find dinosaur eggs in the Amazon.

While the gimmick seems to be dinosaurs and Matt's special ability, dinosaurs take a second-seat to the rainforest in this book. More information is given about the rainforest than about the dinos, which seemed odd. However, it's the kind of information that would have had me wanting to know more about the Amazon, so it's not a bad thing to focus on.

For being the first book in the Dinosaur Detectives series, the first chapters seemed to assume that we already knew the characters from a previous installment--I honestly thought I was reading book 2 in the series, until I looked at the title on Goodreads. The first chapter did set up Matt's ability, but it didn't transition into the second chapter very well, which is why I thought it was a later installment--it felt more like a brief character recap than a proper introduction.

It was disconcerting to see the characters take stereotypical views--Matt thinks his cousin, Jo, wouldn't be able to appreciate dinosaurs or the adventure they were going on. And when she does show that she's knowledgeable in regards to the expedition, it comes across as a show off. It was a quick enough read that I didn't mind it too much, but it was annoying... I hope in the other books, Jo starts to come across as a stronger character.

Overall, I would recommend it to grade schoolers who want a quick read and who are interested in dinosaurs and/or the rainforest; however, I didn't think it would impress most middle-grade readers on up.
