Title: Electric Monkey Sneak Peeks and Previews

Review: So been as this is a collection of sneak peeks and previews I will take about each one individually rather than as a collective whole. So, before I get into it I haven’t heard of many of these books before, so I am not going to be able to write a whole lot about them. 
The exact opposite of Okay by Laura Steven – So the opening of the exact opposite of Okay is the protagonist writing the opening to her book about the sex scandal she is involved in, which I am not sure of yet, but that first page is really gripping, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. After the introduction the protagonist; Izzy inserts excerpts from her blog sow e obviously jump backwards in time but we don’t really know how far as we aren’t given that reference. However, Izzy is at school trying to decide on a career choice, but her grade average and lack of employability is holding her back, but she ultimately decides English specifically drama and creative writing are her favourite subjects at school. I really loved Mrs Crannon – the lesbian drama teacher (points for rep) – as she is just a lively and quirky as Izzy. I really liked Izzy as well because despite her intelligence, sharp mind and wit she is also insecure especially about her financial situation, but she has some great friends and even a boy Danny who could be interested in her. From what I read here, I will be picking this book up as soon as I can find it. 
Monster by Michael Grant – Monster is the sort of sequel to the Gone series which I read back when they were first released so my knowledge on the world and content is going to be a little fuzzy, but I do remember loving the series and this book may just be an excuse to binge read the series once more. So, we are introduced to Shade (who is a she) on her way to school with her friend Malik although he is in college and her ex-boyfriend when she comes across a young girl being roughed up and take her back to her place to sort herself out. She also learns that the girl is called Cruz and she is gender fluid (points for rep). Shade is obsessed with Perdido beach incident and the anomalous space objects or ASO’s one of which has already landed on Earth there are another 7 in space. Shade begins to then recruit Cruz to her cause to take another ASO which is landing in Iowa and they supposed change people into superhuman creatures. This preview rekindled my love for the Gone series and I will be re-reading them soon.  
Bad Girls with Perfect Faces by Lynn Weingarten -  So I wasn’t that interested in this book until I read the blurb and the basic premise is Xavier Sasha’s best friend gets back together with his cheating ex Ivy and to prove to him she hasn’t changed Sasha basically cat-fishes her. With the technological age we live in catfishing is a very common thing and I was super excited to see how an author addressed this issue. While this preview is short it does give a great insight into Sasha’s mind and what has set her on the path she is about to take.  
I have no secrets by Penny Joelson – I was so hooked on this novel before I’d ever started it, the premise is so gripping, it is about Jemma who has severe cerebral palsy leaving her unable to communicate (points for rep) and she knows who committed a murder but can’t say anything about it. Jemma like all her siblings are fostered and her sister Sarah tells her secrets like she is cheating on her boyfriend Dan with her old boyfriend Richard, but Dan isn’t a nice person even going as far as to tell Jemma to kill herself but because of her disability she can’t and doesn’t want to, but he is cruel. This book intrigues me greatly and I will be picking it up soon. 
Flight of the Starling by Lisa Heathfield – We learn Rita & Lo are sisters that are part of a trapeze act in a circus troupe that consists mostly of family or others with circus blood with the exception of a few flatties (non-circus people). While this preview doesn’t give much away we do know that the girls probably won’t be allowed to date flatties but the blurb hints that one of the sisters will do just that and face the choice between love and family, so this is something I will consider picking up, but I will have to read some reviews on it first to get a better feel for the novel. 
This Carless life by Rachel McIntrye – Now the blurb for this careless life was very intriguing it is about four friends Liv, Hetty, Jez, Duffy who audition for a new reality TV show with maybe a murder mystery interwoven as well. Cassandra is the producer sent to film their auditions and we are slowly integrated into the group of which Liv is obviously the leader. Nothing of consequence happens but there is something else lingering in Liv’s mind, something that she doesn’t want anyone to know. It was also a bit strange the way Liv describes how they interact it is almost like the four are trying to hide something. To be honest, I’m curious and need to read more of it very soon. 
Purple Hearts by Michael Grant – I have a full review copy of this also from NetGalley, but I haven’t actually read the other two books in the Front Lines series but if this preview hooks me then I will definitely be checking them all out. For what I can gather is that the Front Lines series is an alternative version of World War II with some very strong female protagonists. The narrator in this is great, it doesn’t hold anything back or try to romanticize the horrors of war and it really pulled me in from the language to the writing style and will definitely be reading Front Lines, and Silver stars very soon. 
Into the No-Zone by Eugene Lambert – Much like Purple Heart, Into the No-Zone is the sequel to The Sign of One which I haven’t read but I am open to reading it. So, we meet our protagonist Kyle, who is apparently the hero of the Facility raid and he along with his brother Colm are extremely valuable to the Gemini cause (although I had no idea what any of this meant). Out of all the previews so far, this one is my least favourite as it reminds me a lot of Divergent and I didn’t enjoy that at all. 
Born Scared by Kevin Brooks – From the blurb I was intrigued by this book as it is compared to All the Bright Places and 13 Reasons Why two of my favourite books of all time so I could wait to read an excerpt of it. We meet Elliot was is terrified of everything and takes medication to combat this but when his mother goes out to get more medicine and doesn’t return he knows he has to go and find her as his pills are running out, so he must face his fears in order to save her from the snow storm moving in. We also learn that Elliot was a twin, his sister Ellamay died shortly after she was born but he still hears her in his head like a part of him died with her and a part of her lived on with him. I really liked this story and will definitely be picking it up very soon.

I really enjoyed these sneak peeks and previews. Now I'm super excited to read these beauties!

This gave me a good taste of a different range and scope of books, some full of humour and others more intriguing. Following from the samples I read I enjoyed each story in its own way and would gladly read the full length of those novels.

I'm late to 'the party' again with a sampler here (this was published back back in July and it's now almost October) but I wanted to check out this bunch of books because they looked interesting. 
This is quite a mixed bunch of excerpts/books, that are obviously easily available in the U.K., and for an American reader, that may make some inaccessible. (I was unable to find the sampler on Goodreads too)
Of all the books/excerpts, 'The Exact Opposite of Okay' stood out to me the most, which addresses the controversial and timely issue of 'slut-shaming' and is written as personal diary entries. This is also introduced with a note from the author on the subject.
I also thought that 'Bad Girls with Perfect Faces', as well as 'Born Scared' looked interesting' too, but the first book stuck with me all the way, likely due to the subject matter.

This sampler made me so excited for these books! I am not the proud owner of an ARC of The exact opposite of Okay from Yalc as I read in on the way in and knew exactly what I was after, thank you!

An amazing selection of upcoming books that I'm so excited for! I cannot wait to get my hands on Michael Grant's Monster - I can't wait to see how all my faves are doing and from the snippet I'm so happy it's already so diverse! Also The Exact Opposite of Okay and Flight of a Starling sound fantastic!

Very exciting selection of snippets from Electric Monkey. I'm particularly looking forward to Michael Grant's Monster - continuing his Perdido Beach story, the first chapters have introduced two compelling MCs that I can't wait to find out more about.
Penny Joelson's I Have No Secrets looks to be a thrilling murder mystery, which handles disability in a sympathetic but not adversity inspirational way.
The Exact Opposite of Okay, the first snippet in this sampler, is one I've already read the full thing of and it is a) funny b) feminist c) fierce and d) fabulous.

Oh, I am incredibly excited about Front Lines. Never heard of the series before, but I'll be diving in ASAP.

A great resource, showing previews of several upcoming releases including books from Michael Grant, Lisa Heathfield and Kevin Brooks. I'm especially looking forward to the reality TV-show based "This Careless Life" by Rachel McIntyre.

I am now far too excited toread The Exact Opposite of Okay; I love the style and tone and characters already and I need it in my life. This teaser book also made me want to read I Have No Secrets and Born Scared, both of which are featured here in intriguing extracts.
I'm lucky enough to have read Flight of a Starling already and it is beautiful.

Flight of a Starling is one of my favourite books this year. It destroyed me in a way that only Lisa Heathfield's writing can. Absolutely beautiful.

I look forward to reading these books in the future!
