I thought the book was well written and discussed the theme of grief well. I did guess that wasnt real (taxi driver scene confirmed it) but I thought it was overall enjoyable. |

I really loved this book. Tom and Veronica lose their little girl Grace in a car accident with a drunk driver and both are having problems coming to terms with it. Tom throws himself into his work, but Veronica is in denial, and their marriage is falling apart. Veronica feels that her close knit group of friends feel awkward around her and so she is pleased to meet Scarlet, an outgoing, bubbly person who helps her take her mind off Grace's death. But suddenly strange things are happening to Veronica and someone is out to hurt her. The twists when they came surprised me although I had guessed one of them, and I found that I was caught up in Tom's and Veronica grief so much I really felt for them. Excellent debut and I look forward to more by this author. |
A clever tale of grief, friendship, manipulation and intrigue. Now I understand why only Veronica ever paid for the drinks! |
Veronica is living a seemingly perfect life when the unthinkable happens. Her young daughter is killed in a horrible accident. Initially, I expected this book to be predictable, a grieving mother struggles to cope after the unimaginable loss of her young daughter. I couldn't have been more wrong. This book introduces us to several characters and each person has a story to tell and a unique perspective. They all remind us that nothing is ever as it seems. I really enjoyed the writing style and the way the story flowed. Overall, a multilayered story that kept me guessing until the final pages. |

This was a great read, the story was really gripping and while not the happiest of topics it drew me in and I really enjoyed reading. |
Veronica is trapped in a frozen bubble of grief after the tragic death of her daughter, Grace. Her husband, Tom, is increasingly distant and she cannot rely on her friends, particularly Felicity who has her own agenda. When the enigmatic and carefree Scarlet comes into her life she starts to behave in ways that both shock and energise her. Who is Scarlet and what impact will she have on Veronica's shattered existence? I was quickly drawn into the book, particularly the exchanges between Veronica and the vipers' nest of so-called friends. I could completely believe in her desire to cut loose, even when some of Scarlet's antics went completely against her own moral compass. I did not see certain things coming, which – to me – is the sign of a well-written novel. The tension is maintained throughout and the ending struck just the right note. My only tiny quibble would be the book's title as there are several books of the same name. This aside, it is a very entertaining and gripping tale. |
Quite a page-turner. This book kept me going and I just couldn't put it down. It had unexpected turns, and I'm so glad I got to read it. Well worth the time to read. |
