The Surrogate had a decent plot and it was easy to read. But it is so hard to enjoy a story when every single character in it is so annoying. There were so many characters and not one was likable. There were so unexpected twists that made it more intriguing but overall, the story was farfetched and unbelievable.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Louise Jensen for an ARC of 'The Surrogate' in exchange of an honest review.

Fantastic book, kept me turning pages as I was desperate to find out how it ended. My first book by the talented Louise, and it won't be my last.

The surrogates by Louise Jenson.
Kat and her husband Nick have tried everything to become parents,
A brilliant read. Couldn't put it down. Loved it. 5*.

A good read with lots of twists and turns. The plot might feel vaguely familiar but know that you, like me might well be surprised, Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Good story, characters were well rounded and easy to read about, would definitley recommend. First book Ive read by Louise Jenson, will be searching out for more of her books

what a great read loved it was hooked from ths beginning a great plot fab characters your pulled onto the story a page turner very good i liked the writting style

Kat and her husband Nick are ready to complete their family with a baby. Unable to conceive, they turn to the obvious alternative...adoption.
When Kat runs into her childhood friend Lisa, she shares the difficulties they’ve been struggling with to start a family. Without any hesitation, Lisa offers a solution to their problem...surrogacy. With Lisa as the surrogate. This was Kat’s closest friend who she’d been estranged from for the past 10 years. Surely it’s just written in the stars that they would run into each other?
There couldn’t possibly be another reason that Lisa just showed up with this generous offer after all this time?

Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will enjoy.

Super disappointed in The Surrogate. I wish that the story was a bit more realistic as opposed to adding a ton of twists in order to shock the reader. I found myself doing a ton of eye rolls because this would never happen in real life.
Kat, her husband, Nick, and her childhood best friend, Lisa, have a ton of secrets. They have secrets going back to their childhood that they have never revealed to each other. Once Lisa entered the picture again, Kat is transported back to high school, a place she never wants to revisit.
I hated Kat, Nick and Lisa. They were all super annoying who were just too wrapped up with themselves. I especially didn’t like Kat and Nick, it was hard to picture them being a married couple since they never talked to one another. They just lived their separate lives, hiding secrets, and expecting everything to be ok when they become parents. Because everything always work out that way…
And then there was the twists. Ok, I admit, that I didn’t see a lot of the twists coming. I thought the novel was going to go one way and it went in a completely different direction. I liked that and then boom, another twist and then another and I struggled to put it altogether because it just didn’t make sense.
I still highly recommend The Sister by Jensen (which I loved!) , but sadly I’m finding her other novels not nearly as great.

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get into it.
Sometimes too predicatable. A shame as I loved The Sister

The first book that I had read by Louise and I will definitely be reading more! Highly recommended

Kat and her husband Nick are desperate for a baby and when other options run out and a chance meeting with an old friend of Kats, results in them looking into the option of surrogacy . This is their last chance to have a baby and they will do anything to achieve this . It looks like their dream to have a baby is going to come true but Kat begins to feel she is being watched and that Nick is lying to her . Has Kat got reason to worry or is this all in her imagination.
Wow ! What can I say about this book except it literally blew me away. A fantastic twisty psychological thriller that had me guessing right up to the very end . Brilliant read

The first half of this book took me forever to get through, but the last half flew by. There were a lot of crazy twists and surprises, and I didn’t see most of them coming. I’m torn on this, because it wasn’t necessarily a new favorite of mine, but I liked that I didn’t guess twists. I also didn’t love the ending, so as a whole, I probably wouldn’t recommend this book, but if it seems interesting to you, give it a try! You might think differently than me 🙂

Kat and Nick are desperate to become parents and when the adoption of a child from another country falls through Kat enters into an agreement with an old friend Lisa who offers to become a surrogate. This book was fantastic. It was full of secrets and lies and twists and turns. Just when you think you have a clue about what is going on you realise you don’t have a clue at all. The vast majority of the characters are deliciously horrible and I disliked them immensely, I couldn’t trust the character of Lisa at all. This is really a page turner that keeps you guessing until the very last chapter. Absolutely well worth your time Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book to read and review

A psychological thriller populated with unlikeable characters and a somewhat unrealistic storyline which will leave the reader to suspend belief. However, the novel is full of twists and turns which will keep the reader interested.

Review: Louise Jensen is one of the queens of a good psychological thriller. This blurb gives you only a little in site into the story and you are in for a treat. This is not predicable none of her books are. It is full of suspense and shock that keeps the pagers turning. I literally good not stop reading this book. Loved this and cant wait to read more from Louise.

I’ve been a huge fan of Louise Jensen and have read all of her books and loved them, but I think The Surrogate is my new favorite! I’ve also not had the pleasure of listening to one of her books before either and I absolutely adored the way this was brought to life by the fabulous narrator, Alex Tregear. It made the whole thing feel more real and was so much more sinister than just reading it myself, she’s amazing and has one of those voices you could listen to for hours.
This flips between the past and present steadily building tension and intrigue as you read further along. Kat was easy for me to warm to, all she wants is a child and though I never had to endure fertility treatments in order to have my kids, I can clearly remember how one month can seem like a year when you’re desperately wanting a baby. Lisa was a tricky one, I so wanted to believe that she had good intentions and wanted to help her old friend, but it’s a Louise Jensen book and you just know there’s way more than meets the eye. Oh man is there SO much more!
I’m not delving into the plot, it was deliciously twisty, dark and thrilling though and if you haven’t read one of Jensen’s books, can I recommend that you start here?! It has all the high marks of a superb psychological thriller, unreliability, shocks, complex plotting and an onslaught of twists that will leave your head spinning.
The Surrogate in three words: Multifaceted, Ominous and Wicked.

This is a non-stop modern thriller with many twists and turns. Nick and Kat are married and desperate for a baby. Kat runs into an old friend, Lisa, one day in a café. Lisa agrees to be their surrogate. Nick, Kat and Lisa have many secrets from their past. As secrets have a habit of coming back to haunt you, be prepared for a rollercoaster of a read. Brilliant story.

This novel was fantastic, it had all the elements of what I love in a thriller, especially a psychological thriller!
Kat and her husband Nick are doing everything in their power to become parents. Unfortunately, heartache after heartache for this couple in getting their dream of becoming mother and father. Out of nowhere, Kat runs into a long time childhood friend Lisa.. who decides to do an amazing favor for her friend Kat and become her surrogate.
But, everything isn't always perfect is it? Slowly, we start to see things that are falling apart and Lisa isn't really who she says she is. Or as a matter of fact, is Kat who she says she is?
There isn't much I can say about this one without giving too much away. It leaves you questioning everyone and everything you've read so far. All the characters harbored incredible secrets and each one was more shocking than the last as they slowly were revealed.
If you want an edge-of-your-seat thriller, this is one of my all-time favorites now!

Having very much enjoyed Jensen’s previous two novels, I was looking forward to getting my hands on this one, and by large it didn’t disappoint. The notion of something as selfless as surrogacy woven into a psychological thriller was tempting.
Kat and Nick are desperate to become parents and after two failed adoptions, their hopes are renewed when Kats childhood friend Lisa offers to be their surrogate.
This was a dark and claustrophobic story, and like Jensen’s previous books, I felt myself becoming captivated by the storyline. Kat herself lives with anxiety as a result of the untimely death of her first love and her desire to become a mother. Anxiety is a difficult emotion to capture in written word but the author does a decent job here.
There are of course one or two twists, and I was surprised by the ending. Jensen has an ability make you believe almost a hundred percent that you’ve got everything figured out and then hits you with a bolt out of the blue. I look forward to her fourth book.
