I loved this revised edition written by L.M. Montgomery's granddaughter! The pictures are divine, not to mention the recipes and the wonderful stories that accompany the eye-catching dishes. Anyone who loves "Anne of Green Gables, the "Emily" books or anything written by L.M. Montgomery will enjoy savoring this book and making delicious treats such as Fire and Dew Sweet Potatoes, Chocolate Goblin's Food Cake, and of course Diana Barry's Favorite Raspberry Cordial. |

Cookbook or coffee table book? Why not both. Pretty to flip through. So far I made the raspberry cordial and, while not as good as the bottled brand in pei, is pretty good. For every kindred spirit. |

I have been a fan of the Anne of Green Gables series since I was a child. This is a delightful cookbook filled with recipes from the books and from the authors own kitchen. The recipes are not too complicated and the directions are clear and easy to follow so this would be a great book for a young Anne reader to begin to learn to cook with. It is filled with lots of picture of the recipes, some pictures that look like they are from Green Gables, and there are also a few wonderful quotes from the book series. So far I have tried the apple dumplings and they came out great. I am looking forward to trying more of the recipes soon. |
This is a lovely little recipe book that would appeal to both young and old. Featuring wonderful recipes and beautiful pictures, it’s a must for any Anne fan. |
This was such a treat! The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook will be a wonderful additon to all fans' collections but it's also a really amazing cookbook, no matter if you're familiar with L.M. Montgomery's work or not. This cookbook was originally published in 1985 and is now re-editioned by Race Point Publishing with brand new graphic layout and additional recipes! The book includes a variety of recipes inspired by passages from Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne of Windy Poplars, as well as recipes from L.M. Montgomery's kitchen, which were an especially nice surprise :) I absolutely adored this cookbook, from the first to the very last page! I loved how well thought-out an composed it was in order to appeal to modern audience, yet it preserved the vintage feel. The recipes are all easy to understand and follow, and they use the ingredients which should be widely available. I really appreciated a few tips and terms useful in cooking, included at the beginning and the fact that the measurements were converted for people all over the world. I found the cookbook to be suitable for both adults and younger readers, who just start their journey with cooking. Now, to the less "technical" parts, each recipe is linked to the dish that appeared or was mentioned in the books and they're accompanied by a quote. On top of that, the overall artwork is simply gorgeous. Beautiful photos and flowery illustrations fit the whole cookbook perfectly and bring out the mood of the Anne books. If my electronic copy was such a feast for the eyes, I cannot imagine how wonderful would the actual book be! The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook by Kate Macdonald is a book that I highly recommend to all lovers of L.M. Montgomery's works or simply to those of you, who would like to learn how to cook. I can't wait to try out all the recipes myself! |
"Anne of Green Gables" was a huge part of my childhood, so I couldn't resist requesting this cookbook. It's by L.M.Montgomery's granddaughter and was previously published in 1985. This edition includes eleven new recipes, some by L.M. Montgomery herself. The design is very cute, and fits the image of the "Anne of Green Gables" books. There are plenty of scenic pictures capturing scenes from the book. The food photography is simple, but good and makes you want to try out the recipes presented here. It's a cookbook aimed at children, and there are plenty of helpful explanations as well as general advice in the beginning of the book. The recipes are inspired by the books "Anne of Green Gables", "Anne of Avonlea" and "Anne of Windy Poplars". The emphasis is more on easy to make sweets and cakes than hearty dishes, but there are some recipes for soups, sandwiches and salads and such as well. All recipes look like something children should be able to make, maybe with occasional assistance by an adult. Some recipes, like "Diana Barry's Favorite Raspberry Cordial" brought back fond memories of the books and made me smile. Even though the way the recipes are written suggest this is mostly aimed at a younger audience it definitely also is something for everyone who loved Anne, Diana and their other friends as children, and there are plenty of ideas for an "Anne of Green Gables" inspired tea party in here. A lovely cookbook with easy yet delicious-sounding (and -looking) recipes that truly captures the spirit of one of my favorite childhood series. |
Two words: raspberry cordial. If you adored Anne of Green Gables, then you know the infamous raspberry cordial/wine scene. I was nine or ten when I first read Anne, and afterwards asked my mom where we could get some raspberry cordial. I wanted to try that beautiful drink that Diana Barry was so obsessed with. Of course, I also wanted to try red currant wine (the stuff Diana has mistaken for raspberry cordial), but I knew better than to ask for that. At the time, my mom was very much a Marilla to my flights-of-fancy Anne, so the idea was immediately shot down. I had apple juice, and the super-sweet syrup we made fruit punch with. There was no need for raspberry cordial. Well, this gorgeous cookbook has a few dozen scrumptious-looking recipes, including one for raspberry cordial!!!! Guess who just bought a few bags of frozen raspberries??!! I was very impressed by this cookbook. There are four sections: recipes from Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Windy Poplars, and recipes from L.M. Montgomery's kitchen. Every recipe is accompanied by a picture, which manages to give you an old-fashioned, whimsical Anne feeling. There are desserts, salads, and even a few seafood recipes, which is great for my pescatarian diet. I can't wait to cook up some Anne-with-an-e worthy dishes. *Thanks to Race Point Publishing and Netgalley for an ARC* |
First I must say that this book looks very beautiful. It has a romantic and nostalgic feeling to it and every recipe is accompanied by a page-wide picture of the dish that looks like taken straight from the world of Anne. It includes all the recipes from the original collection of 1985 (inspired by passages from the stories of Anne of Green Gables series) plus 11 new recipes including some from L.M. Montgomery's own kitchen. I loved that each recipe starts with a quote from one of L.M. Montgomery's books that refers to the dish we are about to make. It is as if you are summoning the story as you cook and bringing it back to life with every bite. If you are a fan of L.M. Montgomery's stories, you definitely want this book, and if you haven't read them yet, you will find plenty of inspiration here to start your journey. |
I guess that we all remember Anne of Green Gables's books, cartoons, movies, TV series and her sad at first, unhappy life as a orphan and her new wonderful life with Marilla and Matthew. One of the best books, cartoons, movies that a kid can sees, because they're plenty of encouragement, positive vibe, great values. But... What kind of food Anne ate at the Cuthbert's house? In this book by QuartoKnows, and discovered thanks to NetGalley a new edition with more recipes of: The Anne of Green Gables Cookbooks Charming recipes from Anne and her friends in Avonlea written by Kate MacDonald the grandchild of mrs. L.M.Montgomery and L. M. Montgomery the creator and writer of the various books about Anne of Green Gables. We will discover dozens of delicious old-fashioned recipes that you can try for the joy of your loved ones, your neighbors, your children. Chocolate caramels, the recipe of Marilla's plum pudding, a sunshiny corn soufflé, little rapsberry tarts, the rapsberry cordial, but also a good cake with delicious chocolate inside and outside. We will find an italian recipe in Miss Stacy's baked macaroni :-) but also some recipes of biscuits for tea, like also Matthew Cuthbert's Yummy Biscuit Sandwich. If you want to try, during the warm summer time, there is also an old fashioned lemonade recipe for restoring your body and soul. Do you want to refresh yourself with veggies? Why not to eat a delicious lettuce salad? If you want to stay warm or you search for a healthy dish goes for the a thick and creamy vegetable soup. Mrs. Irving's delicious shortbread is waiting for you like also Miss Ellen's Pound Cake or a yummy orange angel cake. During this season don't forget one of the best Montgomerys favorite's recipes: Fire and Dew Sweet Potatoes. The book is divided in four sections. While the first three follow Anne's books the last one the kitchen by mrs. Montgomery. Enjoy this book. Pity that the PDF is so poor and frustrating in the visualization through Adobe Digital Edition. Highly recommended. I thank NetGalley for this ebook |
Thank you to Kate Macdonald and Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this gorgeous cookbook. The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook is everything it should be! It includes cooking tips and terms, beautiful photos and artwork, and most of all, many foods that we will remember from the book series that we know and love. I can't wait to try out the recipes. I'll be posting a full review on Goodreads in the coming weeks after testing them out. |
A lovely book for fans of Anne of Green Gables of all ages, young and old. Full of tasty recipes inspired by the series, it is a treat to read and would make an ideal gift. The simple format and handy tips is perfect as an introduction to cookery for children though it will appeal to adults too. I love the fact it does not just cover sweet food but a range of meals. |
If you grew up reading the Anne series then this book needs very little introduction. Surely you will remember how often food played a part in the young orphan’s life and if you don’t then you will still have no worry because the author has lovingly added quotes from the various books with each recipe to refresh your memory as to why this particular item is important. By the time you’re done flipping through the colorful, easy to read pages and salivating over the dishes presented you will want to bake up some treats then settle in with the books to enjoy them in a thoroughly more interactive way and relive this aspect of your childhood. There are four sections of recipes. The first 3 are from the books and they are broken down by title with quotes from the chapters attached to the recipes. The last are recipes from L. M. Montgomery herself including an Americanized version of an old Irish staple – Shepard’s Pie. All of the recipes are easy to follow, contain ingredients that will not be hard to come by and include pictures to help anyone who is cooking impaired so they can compare their dish to what it’s supposed to look like and gauge how close they got. I tried a few of these and found them quite easy to follow though I do admit to cooking regularly from scratch so I’m not exactly a beginner. Cooking tips and terms have been included as well as some advice from a seasoned cook so if carefully read and followed no worries should be had. This collection was originally published in 1985 and has been updated with 11 new recipes and since this has been put together by none other than L. M. Montgomery’s own granddaughter it feels safe to say the integrity of what the author originally created has been kept intact. If you are a “kindred spirit” of Anne’s then why shouldn’t you pick this up and join in her culinary adventures? |
I was thrilled to receive this book prior to publication. It is beautifully illustrated and has lovely photos and wonderful excerpts from the novels. The recipes are great and I look forward to trying many of them. I especially like that it has imperial and metric measures to suit all cooks worldwide. |
Anne of Green Gables was my all time favorite book and this cook book I must say is amazing. I always love cooking, baking and reading Anne of Green Gables so this is a book for me for sure |
This cookbook was so much fun! It was filled with Anne of the Green Gables stuff and I even tried a few recipes that were really yummy. I can't wait to have a physical copy of this to pass down to my children |
A must have for the tried and true Anne of Green Gables fan. Beautiful photos and yummy recipes will take readers right back to their favorite food moments in the stories. |

This is a lovely little cookbook for youngsters and the young at heart who have been introduced to the world of Anne of Green Gables. Most of the recipes are for dishes mentioned in one or another of the first four books. A new chapter has been added with recipes from the personal collection of L.M. Montgomery. Photos show the dishes simply displayed. The measurements and methods use equipment found in the modern kitchen. Each recipe is accompanied by an appropriate quote from the Anne books. I have owned the original version for many years and I think this will make a thoughtful gift for the next generation of readers to be charmed by the Anne of Green Gables books. I voluntarily read an advanced review copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley and I offer my honest opinion in response. |
Short book of recipes of old times straight from the pages of Anne of the green gables. Best part was reading the short stories that accompanied the recipes and knowing that were written from one of Montgomery's grand-grandchildren. For lovers of Anne. THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW! |
This is a delightful add-on for Anne fans and budding cooks. While not all the recipes will appeal to youngsters, the relatively simple instructions are sure to entice them to try. |
