I couldn’t read this book. It wouldn’t open on my kindle nor could I figure out how to downloaded anywhere else so I could read it. Sorry. |
3,5/5 stars. From the beginning, it seemed to me that My Lady’s Choosing was going to be a fun read and I was definitely not wrong. It was such a breath of fresh air by its structure and concept. For those of you who don’t know, this book is an interactive book in which, as you read along, you choose how the story goes as you are the main character. Yes, you read me right; this book is all about you and the choices you’re given and decide to go with. And through this, My Lady’s Choosing enables you to live your wildest fantasies with British men of the aristocracy or a Scotsman of the Highlands – much Outlander vibes in this last case, all mixed with scandal, secrets and adventures. Now, I admit that although I truly enjoyed reading My Lady’s Choosing and the multiple stories my choices created, I think that this was an okay and nothing more. This book will not have an everlasting impact on me or on impact at all, that is. It was nice, sweet but quickly over. This was like watching a nice movie, all cuddled up on the couch, after work. I still found it fun as it was the first ever Choose Your Own Adventure sort of book that I ever read, but just I do not think that this kind of particular book is for me. However, even though this was not exactly the perfect read for me, I would still definitely recommend it to any (Historical) Romance fans out there – you will love this and more than enjoy yourselves as you shape your life in Britain whether it is along the aristocracy or in the Highlands of Scotland. I gave it a 3,5/5 stars. |
I loved Choose Your Own Adventure books as a child, so I was intrigued to see how it would suit the romance genre. The last time I read a book in this style I was about 10, so I was keen to see how it could work for adults. The 'you' in this story is an eighteenth century heroine who has fallen on hard times. Forced into being a companion to a grumpy society lady, you head off to a ball and the story goes whichever way you choose. The book is full of handsome and eligible bachelors vying for your attention (there's even a beautiful society lady, if you prefer) and lots of options. You could go and help a hunky Scotsman run his school for orphans, head off to Egypt to explore or solve an inheritance mystery - the options are plentiful. Once you get beyond the slightly odd second person perspective, there's lots of fun to be had here. I've read three different versions already and will go back for more. There's some slightly jarring language if you are serious about your historical fiction and some rather racy scenes, but everything is done in a lovely, light-hearted way. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a light, fun read. It's entertaining and there's certainly never a dull moment! |

This is a fun choose your own adventure. I did not make it to all of the endings, but I did do most of them. So unless the couple I missed have your character dying some horrible death, every story has a happy ending. It is sweet, but part of the allure of the choose your own adventure novels is the potential dangers and knowing that you can make a wrong choice which will lead you to dying in a ditch in Seven Dials from dysentery. The writing is very historical romance novel, just as it should be, but it is missing some more dangerous and potentially deadly plot choices. For example, the whole Mad Wife in the Attic/Bluebeard vibe story would have been MUCH better if one of the story choices really did lead you to the mad wife in the attic who tries to kill you or to the hero being Bluebeard who pushes you off the tower for daring to enter the off limits room. |
I love choose your own adventure books, though there doesn't seem to be enough of them published nowadays. I read though the book multiple times and enjoyed almost every ending. The book is well written and engaging, Would recommend for fans of historical romance. |
I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book! The idea of a choose your own adventure/romance is brilliant and the stories and path that you can choose are quite funny and witty as well. Definitely a keeper and a book worth reading. |
Super, super cute. Love that one of the storylines is f/f! Its very silly good fun and an outrageous historical romp. |
Such a fun concept - a Regency choose your own adventure for adults. The men in question are a combination of your Bronte/Austen/Outlander (?) archetypes. The book is tongue in cheek and playful - historical accuracy is glanced at if not fully explored but that suits the character of this book. Definitely better suited to print than a PDF - but a very fun ride! I'd definitely recommend. |
I have only had time to read through one scenario so far but I hope to read through them all. I had such a fun time choosing my own romance that I think I am ruined for regular romance titles. I hope this will be an ongoing series. It reminded me of my childhood and brought a sense of whimsy to my day and a spring in my step. I couldn't wait to finish so I was sneaking snippets of reading in during my work day. A most enjoyable read! |
This is a great idea, and aside from formatting issues with the kindle, the PDF version allowed me to navigate more easily when picking my path. I liked the idea of a pick your path romance, and I love regency and historical settings. The story was very humorous at times. I am looking forward to seeing the book in print form. |
This book is just plain fun! I love how you can chose your own adventure with the characters. |

This was a really fun book. There were a lot of choices I could make and I would go back to see the other paths. Now, since this book was more about all the different paths you can take there isn't much time spent building up romances and one romance was so poorly developed I wanted one of the endings to be the main character killing him. |
Oh what fun!! I love chose your own adventure stories and this book does that with the regency romances that I adore. Yes, most of these stories really on insta-love and are pretty silly but I liked it! |

Now that the ARC is a PDF that you can actually navigate via the page numbers instead of having to try to math your way through the kindle locations, it's worth downloading and reading. This book is pretty fun. It's exactly what's advertised, a Choose Your Own Adventure romance novel. The illustrations were a treat I wasn't expecting. I enjoyed it. 3.5 stars |

This is an entertaining read, especially for fans of the "Choose your own adventure" books. The reader becomes the main character of the story and must choose between provided options after each section. The characters in each plot line are unique and will take you on adventures in places such as the Scottish Highlands, Egypt, and the English moors. This is a quick read that will provide laughter, adventure, mystery, and horror, all depending on the options the reader chooses to make. |
I am a Pride an Prejudice super fan. I've read the book countless times, watch one of the adaptations at least once a month, and I own the game Marrying Mr. Darcy, a card/role-playing game where you get to play as one of the characters in P&P. This book reminded me a lot of the game, but somehow not as fun. I enjoyed this book, but kind of in the way that you enjoy eating a bag of potato chips. It's good, yes, but it gives me no lasting value and I can do something else while I'm consuming it. I mentioned this in the comments, but it was REALLY hard to read this on a kindle. I tried to figure out through math how each page transferred to the "location" on kindle, but every time I had to switch locations I basically had to scroll through, trying to find where I was. I usually reread choose your own adventure books countless times, but I don't think I'll ever reread this book because it was just infinitely too difficult. I refrained from giving My Lady's Choosing a rating (on goodreads), because the main reasons why I didn't enjoy it are simply a formatting error and I would hate to give a negative rating this early in the game. I think when people start to receive physical copies of the ARC it'll be a lot better. |
