So, I've read Black numerous times. But I felt this was off. Just off. I love Black's writing style and her story are usually different but in a good way. This one was just a little off. I'm not sure if I'm able to explain that any better.

I loved the parts about the animals. I liked the way they not only took care of them but also rescued them.

Two main characters are Jayden who runs a no kill shelter for dogs (all shelters should be no kill) and Katherine who is a librarian.
I found them quite likable. But there seemed to be too much drama for my liking. I found myself wanting to scream at the book. Hey I scream at the TV too. Don't judge.

Overall it is an enjoyable read. Just refrain from the screaming, they can't hear you.

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This was a sweet read, but the author created a lot of angst and miscommunication that I felt didn't add to the story but just frustrated the reader and characters. I loved the rescue center and the teenagers who were helping out and turning their life around. Though the relationship between the two main characters didn't seem to fit.

I haven't read a lot of books by Black, but those I have read have all been 3 stars. So for me she is an author I will continue to read. Her books are okay reads, but not great. This one was a lot like the others. I enjoyed it enough to continue the book and it was good while reading, but forgettable after it was finished. I actually prefer these types of books on vacations, or trips for work. They allow for mindless entertainment and can be put down and picked back up often without much effort. There were parts of this book I really enjoyed, but the majority was just okay. . If you are a fan of hers I am sure you will really enjoy this one as it appears she is very consistent in her writing. Worth picking up if you want a quick easy read.

Unfortunately I didn't connect well with the novel or the characters and found the pace was a little lagging. I normally really enjoy Ronica Black novels but this one just didn't get me excited as her novels normally do. This however won't stop me reading any of her future novels.

I love all the books that Ronica has written. I am a big fan of a good love story and the love for animals. From the start I felt in her words and emotions between Jayden and Kassandra. From the first time they met and the cat and mouse game that Kassandra is not interested but it all comes together at the end. And that's all that matters with finding love.

So playing the cat and mouse game is exciting, but the love tale lyes in the pages of this book with s stocker hidden almost behind the scenes. Two women that fall in love that unravels as u read. As always Ronica Black captures another outstanding love novel and of course her sexual words that makes u wet for ever sentence... Another must read book.

A librarian and someone who works at a no kill shelter are characters that will appeal to many lesbians. Their story follows the same winning formula that other romances do which, let's face it, is why we buy these books. The one thing that may be disappointing to some readers is that Kassandra and Jayden's relationship seems to be based on sexual attraction instead of compatibility in other areas. Nonetheless, it delivers what this reader needs in a romance novel.

From the start Ronica Black had me. I loved everything about this story, from the emotional intensity to the amazingly hot sex scenes. Jayden Beaumont runs a dog shelter and has dedicated her life to the animals and the troubled teens she gives a second chance. Kassandra Hayden comes into her life when he dog goes missing and is rescued by Jayden. Although straight up to this point Kassandra finds she can’t stop thinking about Jayden and the feeling is mutual. Kassandra is a wonderful person who tries to help out kids too and it gives the women a bond. As in all great romances the path of true love does not run smooth but getting there is beautiful. The emotion between them is so real and tear jerking at times. And the love scenes are phenomenal. I feel I’m raving – but I enjoyed it that much. Highly recommended.

This book was cute but nothing special. I liked both of the main characters and the romance was sweet. The element of dogs was a lot of fun. 

I liked how Kassandra was a middle school librarian. I enjoyed the interactions she had with the students as well as those student characters. Her relationship with them was fun to read about. 

It was a cute read but wasn't the most engaging. There's a small elemebt of Kassandra realising she's queer but it wasn't a big part of the story. 

There's not much to say, it was a pretty average read.

Kassandra Haden works as a school librarian but finds herself doing more than just looking after the library, she spends much of her time counseling the troubled young boys who feel they can talk with their problems. She doesn't want or need a relationship. Everyone she's let into her life has made promises they couldn't or wouldn't keep, constantly letting her down. The one true love of her life is her dog Lula so when she gets a call telling her Lula's missing she is brokenhearted. Jayden Beaumont owns and runs a no-kill dog shelter. She has also opened her shelter for young people who need a safe place to learn and grow into the adults they are meant to be. She's tired of being alone and would love to meet someone to share her life with. Throw in a stalker and you have all the ingredients for a great read. R B has done it again. Very enjoyable read.

I have never read any of Ronica Black's books before but as a dog lover this really caught my attention. I really wanted to like it but it just didn't work for me.

The story was just a bit unrealistic for me. As a character I liked Cassandra more than Jayden but I still couldn't really connect with them. I felt that they got physical waaay to quickly with Jayden basically attacking Cassandra when she first walked in the door to the shelter. I also thought that their greatest connection was when they did get physical but that their everyday relationship wasn't really deep or meaningful.

I did however like that it was a mostly light hearted romance with a happy (if slightly rushed) ending. The dog shelter element was also plus as I am an animal lover and I thought it added a sweet element to the story.

All in all I feel like this book had potential but I just couldn't really get into it. However It wouldn't put me off reading other works by this author in the future.

I rec'd an ARC from NetGalley/Bold Strokes Books for an honest review. <br />Dog lovers will enjoy this romance. Unfortunately I couldn't get attached to the characters of Jayden and Kassandra and found the storyline somewhat choppy. It was an ok read.<br />Ultimately, however, Ms. Black remains one of my favourite writers.<br />2.5 stars.

I absolutely love the way Ronica Black writes.. Under Her Wing was a great books with an awful title. I am not sure why you chose the title but it doesn’t accurately represent what was in the book. The book it self was a good, but predictable read. I think I am just getting tired of seeing the same type of lesbians one butch one femme one dark haired and one blonde. Come on these are loads of other types of lesbians and I have read a lot of these books and not a single one of them ever represent the type of lesbian I am nor any of my friends. So I loved the social,worker/counselor aspect of the book. I work with troubled teens and it is a very tough and often under appreciated field so it was nice to see two people with seemingly normal jobs and not ones where they were like super hot and wealthy corporate lawyers. I enjoyed reading and learning about kennels and dogs. The prose was beautifully written, and the mystery of the stalker was an interesting twist that honestly didn’t need to be there. Maybe just go with the grateful pet owner and figure out another way for them to fall in love. So overall it was fine, but I didn’t love it liked I’ve loved other books I’ve read by this author.

Not one of my favorites by this other. Really liked the storyline, just thought it would been better as a longer novel.

I love this author. She knows how to grab your attention and interest and then keep out as the story plays out. Not her best book in my opinion but still 5stars. Love dogs playing a significant part too. PS - I think Wild is her very best book!

I'm a big fan of the author but to be honest it wasn't one of her best. I can say you'll love this book if you're a big fan of dogs, as it's almost a love story between lesbians and their animal children. You won't be a fan of this book if you're not into the whole straight woman not knowing she's a lesbian, which I'm admittedly not. It would have been nice to have that in the description, just in case the reader is like me in that regard.

That being said, it wasn't my biggest gripe. This book has a lot of character issues that I couldn't get past. To understand my rating, I'll go a little more in depth of those and warn of minor spoilers (nothing huge).

The whole Mel role confused me. First thing was her views of "straight" women came across as super old school. I think it's a lot more common for people now to realize that sexuality is on a spectrum and it's very common for those who may have only dated men to discover an attraction to women. For Kass it's even more realistic considering she's barely dated anyone. To constantly put her down for that seems ridiculous and over the top. It made me not like her character at all. And then there was the whole bit where she would send women over to Jayden to seduce her. When it's mentioned several times that Jayden has no problems with women and can have anyone she wants, why would she need her best friend to send women her way? It seems like she does fine on her own..

Which leads me to the big issue with Jayden's character. These women are being sent to her BUSINESS where there are troubled children learning from her. That seems like such an unprofessional thing considering Jayden is extremely professional and worries about setting a good example for the children. Wouldn't she have freaked out and been pissed the FIRST time it happened? And this is such an ongoing thing that she doesn't question when it's happening? It just seemed like a ploy to get the two main characters to meet and character consistency be damned.

Again I really enjoy this author, I just think the characters were lacking in direction.

This is a story with some interesting aspects, other are more common and the ending it is a little bit rushed, in my opinion. The two protagonists have not been completely appealing to me. Kassandra is too fearful and insecure, given that her best friends are lesbian, she is completely clueless about her feelings. Jayden is the typical lesbian unable to commit herself but, she just knows Kassandra and changes completely. Their friends are quite anoying, the kind of support they give to them doesn't seem too wise. And the dogs sometimes are completely forgotten. Also, there are some situations too forced, to complicate matters, but perhaps the author intended to lengthen the book a little, maybe. In short, I think it's a quick and uncomplicated reading, not bad, not outstanding either.

Ronica Black wrote a sweet, funny, endearing story. Kassandra & Jayden each come from different backgrounds, but the way Ronica Black weaves in a story that has warm, humor and emotional connection is a delight to read. The story backdrop is set between a library and dog shelter. The author manages to weave in beautiful story lines with at risk youth that compliment the vulnerability and connection with Kassandra & Jayden. I highly recommend this book.

While the prospect of a novel featuring an animal rescuer, the descriptions of her work running a shelter and the initial introversion of the character intended to become her romantic counterpart appeared to be an ideal novel formula, the final product lacked the thrust necessary to distinguish it from other recent releases in the genre. Two particular detractors were the lack of context offered for Kassandra's social withdrawal and the need for more emotional depth from Jayden, considering her profession. I wanted greater layering to the tale of the romantic development between the two, which Ms. Black has accomplished in earlier publications including "The Midnight Room," which was an unexpected favorite in 2012.
