This book was just an okay read. Although there were a few twists in it the story overall was quite predictable and did not keep me interested. |
There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though. |
I am in charge of the senior library and work with a group of Reading Ambassadors from 16-18 to ensure that our boarding school library is modernised and meets the need of both our senior students and staff. It has been great to have the chance to talk about these books with our seniors and discuss what they want and need on their shelves. I was drawn to his book because I thought it would be something different from the usual school library fare and draw the students in with a tempting storyline and lots to discuss. This book was a really enjoyable read with strong characters and a real sense of time and place. I enjoyed the ways that it maintained a cracking pace that kept me turning its pages and ensured that I had much to discuss with them after finishing. It was not only a lively and enjoyable novel but had lots of contemporary themes for our book group to pick up and spend hours discussing too. I think it's important to choose books that interest as well as challenge our students and I can see this book being very popular with students and staff alike; this will be an excellent purchase as it has everything that we look for in a great read - a tempting premise, fantastic characters and a plot that keeps you gripped until you close its final page. |
Domestic noir thriller with the creepiest of woodland backdrops. As the book begins, you realise if a family seems too good to be true, they probably are. With plenty of twists and turns worthy of the Scandi setting, this is a must for thriller-lovers. Thanks NetGalley! |
What a disturbingly brilliant read. The Dark Path has the makings of a perfect psychological thriller that takes you on a wild rollercoaster ride until the last possible moment. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it late into the night. It is your typical one more chapter until it's finished kinda read. |

A absolutely brilliant book has you hooked from the start . Would definitely recommend this book and author to everyone. |
I really loved this book. It had the perfect creepy vibe to it and I was so intrigued by the characters. I loved the setting, the plot and a satisfying ending. A perfect book. |
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this book. I mean I didn’t see the who did it coming so that in it’s own way is the sign of good writing. On the other hand as I was reading it the book felt not flat exactly but all one level. It never give me peaks which in a thriller I need to get the feels from it. Maybe just not the author for me. |

I enjoyed this book. It was a decent thriller, though not the best thriller I have ever read. I would consider reading future novels by this author. |
This was a dark read, and I'm not totally sure if it was really my cup of tea. Regardless the book was well written and thrilling. Recommended. |
Nordic noir, set in a magical Swedish landscape.. A study of the dark side of marriage, motherhood and friendship. It takes a while to see through the seeming shallow but perfect scene, almost to the point of believing the book to be some kind of romantic menage a trois. There is the ruggedly handsome husband, the well-scrubbed wholesome wife and the friend, stereotypically alluring and flirty. Then this gradually falls apart. All three of them lie and pretend to be decent human beings when none of them is. The real darkness is uncovered when the mother admits to herself something about the baby. From this point each character (plus the peripheral neighbours) shows some very unattractive, and in some cases, very disturbing traits. This is an intense and sinister tale. The characters at first are flat and simple, then become more unlikable and then finally appear vulnerable and damaged. The writing is emotionally taut and gritty, the perspective from the three. A brief insight into the justice system in Sweden where a gentle police officer says 'It is not like America. Here we rehabilitate not punish.' A promising debut, recommended. |
Wow!! What an amazing book, especially to say it's a debut. This really caught my attention and kept me hooked throughout! |

Good read although it made me a bit sad at points, wasn't sure I liked any of the main characters by the end of it - would recommend... |

This book is centered around child abuse, which some people find hard to read. However, what a gripping book. Even though it centers around horrible circumstances, it is so gripping and you just want to read on. I was really looking forward to reading this book and it met my expectations. It was captivating and I just wanted to read on! I didn't like the characters, but I dont think you are meant to! All in all, it was a great book and I will look out for more by the same author! |
The Dark Path by Michelle Sacks is a stunning debut novel. With intelligent writing and a gripping story The Dark Parth is a fabulous thriller. |
Michelle Sacks' You Were Made for This' and recently titled 'The Dark Path' is an eye-opening, and in parts quite distressing, read, and one that forces us to face up to the startling effects of mental illness of the post-natal type. At first we see Merry and her perfect life, and we cannot feel anything but jealousy for her. She is so efficient, has the house and family of her dreams and there is nothing she could want for. Yet beneath this shining example of how to be a perfect housewife and live in your ideal home, the story soon reveals what is really going on behind closed doors, and how Merry is unravelling. This a total game-changer! I could not put this book down! Add Frances, Merry's childhood friend to the mix and you've now got an extra reason to be rooting for the protagonist, Merry, you at first don't even like very much. Not because she has it all, but because of what she does to her child when she thinks no one is looking. It's weird, but the author had me feeling more sympathy for her as I eagerly read through to find out how it was going to end. Can Merry really be blamed for her actions? I have to say that I did not miss the authors (perhaps not so subtle hint) ironic use of giving Merry such a joyous first name. For such a depressed main character, Merry was far from merry. I loved the different setting, where the Swedish countryside came into play almost as though it was a character in itself. Merry has moved from busy New York to make a new life for herself in a remote part of Sweden. But why? What are their reasons for getting away from it all? Why do they need a fresh start? A fast-paced thriller I totally lapped up! |
I really enjoyed this book, it was a real page turner. The characters were interesting and there was a great twist I never expected. It keeps you on the edge of your seat A great psychological thriller, it’s the first book I’ve read from this author and I’ll be looking out for more in the future. Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read this |
This was an interesting book. The story is about two people who are making a new start in Sweden with their baby, until the best friend comes along. Things start to happen and you get background story on the two women but the characters are not likeable at all. It is a dark story about friendships and the lengths you go too! |

I enjoyed this modern thriller. The writing flowed making it easy to understand. It's about a family who look as though they have a perfect life. But do they? |
I really tried to enjoy this book. It started off OK but soon went downhill. I read to almost half way then had to stop. The characters felt one dimensional and boring and I couldn't stomach the neglect scenes when there was no redeeming aspect to the book. |
