This book is awesome! As someone that has tried to read self-care books and cannot make it through the first chapter, I truly enjoyed this one. It is self-help while being informative about bad ass women through history and their achievements. I loved the workbook side of it, it kept me engaged while actively thinking about myself. It was inspirational while promoting creativity, self-esteem, and empowerment. Viewing this book digitally has convinced me that I need to purchase it and have it in my life!

I want to thank NetGalley for updating this one, now I actually get to review it!!!

Every, and I mean, every woman needs this workbook. It is full of wonderful things to think about, and sometimes they aren't happy things. All of us women have stories to share, art to create, and people to love.

I am still working my way through this. I love all the little spinets of badass babes, women who are writers, artists, activists. Women who will inspire you to make your own creations. And get the physical book if you can, it really is a workbook!

I requested this book via NetGalley, because the name and content seemed unique in the description. I was lucky to have the request approved and It turned out that I was right about it on both counts. This book uses the usually semi-derogatory term babes and turns it around to spear a whole different thought trend.

The book contains snippets of information on various women (majority concentrated in the North American sphere, considering the limits of having it fit into a single book, with a few achievements from elsewhere) who have or are excelling in their chosen fields. Then each of it is further used to try and inspire an artistic reaction. The 'workbook' section has interesting ideas and suggestions that can be used to fuel drawing/painting or writing. Overall a good book to have on the shelf.

Art therapy, taken to another level. This is an amazing book for feminist inspiration combined with art. It encourages people to draw, be creative and express themselves without fear of failure. It works through a series of therapy chapters, with stories of woman across humanity who are true leaders in their field, and using them as inspiration to seek the power within yourself.

I found the biographies of inspirational women, well, truly inspirational. The exercises were fun, challenging and brought out my creative side, and made me recognise that although I love drawing and art, I don't do it because I fear failure - that my creations won't be good enough.

This is a book that delivers on everything it promises to be.

Enjoyed the liberal, creative voice throughout, particularly when each voice was linked to an invite to creative reflection. Slight shame that the text is very USA-centric, and I struggled with the simplistic colour palette and cartoon rendering of famous figures.

I love this book and my only wish would be to have this in paperback so I could actually use it. It's a lot like other inspirational journals like "My Rad Life: A journal" and just as fun. I highly recommend reading and actively working through this book. <3

This was 176 pages of fun and inspiration! Using powerful stories, fantastic illustrations, and creative exercises to promote matters such as self-care, expression, empowerment, and self esteem, Julie Van Grol has created an excellent workbook for anyone who is inspired by a the achievements of others.

Aside from the badass women in this book ranging from athletes to Nobel Peace Prize winners-

“Whose stories are in the book already?

Women, femme-identifying people, and gender nonconforming (GNC) folks.

You’ll see people from many cultures and backgrounds who are often not represented fairly in the media. In one way or another, you’ll be able to connect with many of the powerful stories in these pages.”

I was impressed by the stories written in this book and the diversity of the badass babes involved. The list spans from Halima Aden to Helen Zia.

This book not only challenges beauty and body standards, gender constructs and other stereotypes, it highlights those who have overcome extreme adversity and pushes us to envision and cultivate our individual “badass babe” selves.

I highly recommend this book and rate it 5/5 stars.

I’m looking forward to buying the paperback so I can really get into the exercises. I’ll be getting this for my nieces when they’re old enough to appreciate it too!

My takeaway from this preview has been singular and simple: I need to buy this book in print. A second takeaway has just manifested: I need to buy multiple copies and give them to my friends. A lot of these books exist in the market today and it's fantastic. They are filling needs - somewhat desperate needs. What I liked about this book in particular is the focus on diverse individuals - women, female-identifying, and gender nonconforming. Really fantastic selection of highlighted women include women of color - both racially and ethnically - wide ranging. Also, I love the idea of asking women to describe and define their own versions of femininity, challenging social norms and what they/we have grown up defining ourselves against. Really special. Highly recommended.

You had me at Badass Babe.

I expected this to be part journal, part self help book. And while that's mostly what it is, it also includes loads of information about strong women in history. Women in sports, women in science. Activists, inventors, just badass women in general.

And sprinkled in is plenty to keep your mind active, your soul calmed, and your spirit cleansed. From self care to self expression, there's loads to see and do here. This would make an excellent 2018 self care journal.
