What an amazing true story. One woman found herself fighting for her life every inch of the way. It was extremely moving. She was a very strong woman.

I found the technical side of boats a bit distracting from the storyline as I kept having to look up what each bit meant but I'm sure if you understand boats you would have understood these parts. I am so pleased that it ended in the way that it did but thought it was a bit rushed. I have not seen the film so not sure how this would be portrayed.

It's a good story which makes it all the better because its true and I think it needed to be told.

A first hand account of survival against the odds, Adrift is an incredibly personal book but I feel it would have been better if a ghost writer had been involved to polish the text.

Wow
This story was amazing and truly remarkable a true inspiration.
My worst fear would to be in tamis situation but she held on to hope and the love she had for Richard to survive and itbwilled her on.
I have to admit that I watched the film before I read the book both are beautiful with very different endings but I’m glad that Tami found her happy ending.
Tissues are most definitely needed

My heart broke about five times during this. Having set off to deliver a boat to the United States with her beloved fiancé, the narrator finds herself stranded onboard a capsized boat after a hurricane strike. Blacking out in the terror of the storm, Oldham comes about with significant injuries and, pointing her soul toward Hawaii, and leaving everything she loves behind in the sea, she sails across the ocean to find land- alone, and heartbroken. It's a beautiful read and a great insight into sailing and a commitment to a life of adventure; I found it inspiring throughout.

I am somewhat disappointed that the circumstances of Tami's survival are different in the film adaptation; I wonder if somehow this will detract from the absolute resilience shown by Tami in the correct version of the story.

It’s a one woman’s story, who finds herself fighting for her life instead on enjoying a month full of love and contentment.

It’s a good story, well written, and in a way it’s an invigorating story. True, it is also sad story, but for me the sadness did not hit me before very end. It’s an emotional story, that made me think, that it is written by two different persons, but then I realized, that of course the part on the boat should be written in different voice than the parts before and after the journey. On the boat, the person was different, she had to survive, so the things she remembers and the way she writes about them is different than the happy times.

A very good read, and I feel bad that they did not transmit the book’s strong heroine into the movie very well.

With the film of this book being discussed everywhere, but me not enjoying the cinema, I was really pleased to read this epic account of survival.
Ashcraft's account is vivid and wonderfully interspersed with accounts of sailing gone right as well as the drama at the centre of the piece. I wasn't aware of the ending of this story but as it almost starts at the end and works backwards I think that I can say it is reminiscent of a true life version of Life of Pi without ruining either book.

Suffering from seasickness (even on screen) probably means that I will never see the film, but from what I've heard it is as good as the book and would make a great book/film club discussion doublebill.

A really enjoyable read that shows the bravery of tami. It's one I would definitely recommend and I can't wait to see the film now as well.

I chose to read this as I much prefer to have my own opinion of a book before watching the film. From what I gather, the film has quite a different outcome to the true story told here. I am glad that I made that decision. This autobiographical account does not read in the same way as a work of fiction so please don't expect twists and turns with a perfect ending. It is a gritty retelling of what happened to one young woman over a period of less than 2 months at sea. A great read and makes you think about yourself and the value of life and those we all love.

I think this was previously published as Red Sky in Mourning and has now been made into a movie. A fabulous book of survival against the odds.
Thank you Netgalley and the author for the ARC.
