I did not know that this is book 3 in the Nathan Cody series, but I feel this read nicely as a standalone. This was a gripping and intriguing read from beginning to end. Highly recommended!!!

Wasn't sure about this once I found out it was part of a series but it worked really well as a standalone thankfully! Really well written and fast paced, kept me hooked the whole way through.

Jackson's 'Don't Make a Sound' opens with what appears to be pretty much a normal scene, Malcolm and his wife Harriet sharing a moment together happy in each others company. But this pair have a nasty, big secret and things are far from normal in their household.
The story focusses on the abduction of a child, Poppy and the involvement of DS Nathan Cody and his partner DC Megan Webley in solving the case.
The story is a fast moving psychological police thriller. It is on the edge of the seat stuff and I stayed up far into the night to complete it and discover what was in store for all parties. Their is a twist to the plot at the end which changes feelings ever so slightly and I loved the relationship between Cody and Webley, who are still obviously attracted to each other, even though their relationship fizzled out several years ago. Both are likeable characters and I would love to see a sequel where the spark might be rekindled between the pair.

I am stating it upfront. This book was not for me. I don't like books where I am told the identity of kidnapper right at the beginning without me getting to play the Detective!!

3 girls plucked away from their home settings and boarded up as prisoners and police befuddled and soon investigation starts rolling

The story is told with respect to the investigation and life of the girls at the kidnappers'. The two parts continue on and meet up in the middle and spoiler alert (the cop becomes prisoner too).

The ending was both shocking and twisted. My first book by David Jackson. The book had a police procedural vibe to it, the tension and pace was well maintained. Life of the kidnapped girls was terrible. The kidnappers themselves were extremely icky, so full marks to the author for this characterization.

I didn't like how the police investigation and life of the cops was written. This style of writing didn't gel with my personal preference. I didn't find it interesting, this is on me!!

Overall, for me it was a fast read with skipping of some parts which were not relevant to the rescue of girls.

Following DS Cody through this investigation where Poppy goes missing makes for suspenseful reading. It’s without a doubt a page turner and will have you turning the pages faster than you can read!

Part of a series, but I have read standalone

Third in the DS Nathan Cody police series set in Liverpool (but can easily be read as a standalone), following the investigation into a dark and deeply unsettling child kidnapping.

This super intense and gripping tale had me racing through the pages with it’s twists and turns and a totally unexpected ending. Wow !!!

What a gripping thrilling read.. I thoroughly enjoy this Nathan Cody series. . I was intrigued from the start and couldn't wait to get to the end. The abduction of a young girl Poppy, from her own home is the case Cody and his team have to investigate. A very different plot to what you would expect, as all is not what it seems. An engrossing,, fast paced read. I certainly enjoyed the humour amongst the team especially the rapport between Cody and DS Megan Webley. A compelling read from beginning to the end!

This was the first book I’ve read by David Jackson, but I loved DS Nathan Cody, and will undoubtedly be reading more in this series.

Missing children is currently a common theme in psychological thrillers, but this was different to most. Although the subject matter was disturbing and unpleasant, the story and the writing were riveting.

The characters were credible, flawed human beings and the storyline was unpredictable and creepy. I was hooked from start to finish and will recommend it to others.

Okay, prepare to be utterly creeped out again with another dark and twisted tale from the always entertaining and unsettling David Jackson. This new instalment of the D.S. Nathan Cody series, begins with a typically dark scenario, and to be honest, and thankfully, doesn’t really let up, as Jackson ramps up the weirdness, the violence, and positively torments Cody even more than he has done previously. I like Cody’s character very much, as neurotic and strange as he is, despite wondering intermittently quite how he keeps his job. However, with the back-up of two strong female characters in the shape of his police partner, the long suffering DC Megan Webley, and his boss, the perfectly named DCI Stella Blunt, Cody’s relationships with both provides some interesting juxtapositions in terms of how we perceive his character. There’s also a nice little group of other police personnel, who provide moments of humour, succour and annoyance to Cody and Webley, but with an overarching feeling that there is an underlying bonhomie and cohesion to the team, apart from Cody going a bit lone wolf from time to time. With his trademark gallows humour, a few little pulls on our credulity, and a goodly amount of spine tingling tension, Don’t Make A Sound proves an enjoyable crime caper. Recommended.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

Don't make a Sound is the third book in the DS Nathan Cody series. I have been so excited since I found out that David Jackson was due to release another book and have had it on my wish list for a couple of months.

Malcolm and Harriet Benson lead a quiet life with their daughter 10 year old Daisy. However Daisy does not live a normal life like other girls her age. Three years earlier Daisy was abducted by Malcolm when she was playing in the sand dunes. Ever since Daisy has been imprisoned in her bedroom, the window has been boarded up and in the corner lies a commode to use. The only company she has Malcolm and Harriet who she has to call mummy and daddy.

One day Malcolm tells Harriet he has found another girl to be a little sister for Daisy. After watching the girl and her mother for weeks he breaks into their house one night and kidnaps the girl from her bed. The girl is called Poppy Devlin and she is 6 years old, at first she tries to escape and defies the Benson's and Daisy has to protect her.

Poppy is an intelligent girl and understands it is best to play by their rules. Then Malcolm kidnaps 6 year old Ellie killing her parents who tried to protect her.

DS NathanCody and colleague/ ex lover Megan Webley desperately start searching for the girls but have no leads. Then civilian officer Grace discovers that Daisy was abducted three years earlier in Wales. An eyewitness said said they saw a white van near where Daisy was snatched. When one of Poppy's neighbours also saw a white van they start searching for vans in Liverpool. Webley and Cody visit Malcolm and find nothing suspicious and leave. Later Cody finds he has left warrant card and goes back to the Benson's unannounced to retrieve it. Once he is in the house Cody hears a noise upstairs and finds the three girls in their bedroom/prison. In a panic Harriet hits Cody leaving him unconscious and at the mercy of Malcolm. Nathan told no one where he was going and left his mobile at home. Megan is concerned but her boss DI Stella Blunt tell her to stop worrying.

I have read all three stories in the series and the plot improves. with each book. My only regret is I did not read the book as soon as I downloaded it.

First of all I love the will they won't they relationship between Nathan and Megan. Megan knows Nathan is extremely damaged and knows she would be better off with ex fiance Parker but against her better judgement she still cares about Nathan.

This book was fast paced with short snappy chapters which lure me into reading just one more chapter. The description of Malcolm's damaged head after his brain injury was the stuff of nightmares. The threat of violence was palpable throughout the book as Daisy tried to protect the younger children for Malcolm's violent temper.

The cliff hanger in this book left me stunned, it was brilliant.. I recommend this series and look forward to book 4.

I am beginning to wonder if these thrillers are no longer 'my thing'. I am unable to draw much excitement from them. This is the third book of a series and after seeing few statements elsewhere which stated that it worked as a standalone, I thought I would give it a shot.

To a large extent, it does work as a separate tale because we are given enough information about DS Cody's past, we only do not have the time to feel enough for him. The story begins with an introduction of a unique couple and their 'child'. Things accelerate almost immediately and we always have a bird's eye view of the ongoing investigation. Once the police are on the case they start to scramble since there is not much evidence available for the identification of the abductor titled the 'pied piper' by the press. There are multiple unexpected turns which salvaged the book for me and I am giving it three stars. I am left with a feeling that being more invested in Nathan Cody might be the ticket to liking this book further.

Despite not being a huge crime fan I have read all of David Jackson's other titles and so when I realised that there was a new DS Cody title I was very excited and it did not disappoint! Although the crimes included are very dark and unsettling, the power of the writing means you're unable to stop reading with almost embarrassing haste to learn of the next piece in the puzzle. The revelations about some of the supporting characters were very intriguing in this instalment and it was interesting to see how the relationship between Cody and Webley continues to grow. The twist at the end is devastating and well worth the wait.

I just love Nathan Cody and I've read the whole series of books. I'm always anxious that the next book won't quite live up to the last but I shouldn't have worried! Absolutely will be recommending this to EVERYONE!

This is the 3rd in the Nathan Cody series and i feel its the best so far. David Jackson is a phenomenal writer and totally sucks you into the book. There are some distressing scenes but they do need to be there to help you understand the background and characters. This put me through the wringer, my emotions were all over the place! Having said that, I could not put this book down, it just kept calling me back for more! I would highly recommend this book
