Naming the protagonist Paige Turner was enough for me to know I wasn't going to be a fan of this book - where is the originality?

I will not be giving feedback on this book as I couldn’t really get into it but I think others may enjoy it.

A quick and fun read! The young protagonist, Paige is on a mission to save the book store she works in. Lots of great characters along the way. It's great to see the main character standing up for what she believes in. Just lots of Fun!!

I have been a fan of bookish books for the longest time, like a lot of bloggers and bookish people. The Bookshop Girl is a lighthearted and fun read that will definitely lead me to read more from Chloe Coles.

I had heard some great things about the Bookshop Girl and was interested in the premise so when I picked it up I was surprised. The book has really great characters and world-building and even though this review is a little overdue, I still have memories about it.

With most books, I always love the plot and the characters and I think for a lot of book lovers, reading a book about saving a bookshop from closure is an ideal read. I really enjoyed the reading about trying to save the bookshop and seeing how the plot came together.

I also really enjoyed Paige as a character, partly because her name is, Paige Turner and I love a good pun. But also because I feel like she has a great personality that leaps off the page.

I also love the relationship between those who work at the bookstore as well as her friends. I also liked the relationship with Paige and Blaine and seeing the highs and lows and in general, the antics that took place.

The Verdict:

The Bookshop Girl is an enjoyable and humorous story that will have you interested to read the sequel.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.

Prolific reader, Paige Turner (yes, her real name) has finally found her perfect job - working at the local bookshop, Bennett's, with her best friend, Holly. But, when it's revealed that her store is set for closure, she and the rest of the team are willing to do whatever they can, including a sit in, to keep the stop open. Can Paige succeed, and save her beloved Bennett's, while also grow closer to the handsome artist she meets, Blaine?

This book was a really quick read, and that was a definite plus. I liked it, but would not say it was amazing or anything. Paige was a nice protagonist, and her and Holly's friendship was wonderful, but I just found myself wondering when it was going to end, and I could mark it off my to-read list. The name, Paige Turner, was definitely cringy, but I liked how it was explained away, and though Paige felt like a real teenager, I think this book is more for younger teens. All in all, an okay book, but not a series I'm looking to continue.

This was a little disappointing as the plot is extremely intriguing, I just felt that it wasn't executed as well as it could have been. However this book still kept me reading and entertained.

I was drawn to this book because it is a book about books, so when I saw it crop up on Netgalley I had to request it.

Bennett's bookshop is a haven for 16-year-old Paige Turner (lol) where she can escape her hometown, hang with her best friend Holly, and earn some money. This book follows Paige trying to save the bookshop from closure; a casualty of the high street.

The premise of the novel sounded incredible. My main issue with this novel, which ultimately led to the low rating is that it felt that it was targetted to a younger demographic. It didn't feel like young adult literature. I felt that if we didn't know as a reader that Paige was 16, I would've thought she had just entered teendom.

I did like the scenes in the art class, where we got to meet some of the people who took part in it, like Sue. They were fun, and really supportive.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This novel is light and humorous, I think a younger audience will enjoy it. It was unfortunately not one for me.

This book is aimed at the younger end of YA than I would usually read, but I enjoyed the bookish setting and references. I also liked the premise of standing up for what you believe in and protecting important places, like bookshops. The teen voice felt authentic and I think it will appeal to fans of the Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie.

I do like many YA books but felt that this book was on the very young side of that age range, and that did affect my enjoyment of it. However, for those in the correct age range, who love books and perhaps have a quirky sense of humour, this would be an excellent book.

o this book is the ultimate book for any book lover, reader or bookshop fanatic of the quaint variety. I found this book to really pull on my emotional attachment to books and how shops on the high streets are slowly becoming non-existent. Seeing a bookshop that brings such happiness to people to be slowly then away because they care more about profits than people is honestly horrible.

But then there is Paige Turner, a bubbly, passionate human being who wants to stop and shout to heavens that books and bookshops are here to stay. You don’t realise how much a bookshop helps people not just find stories and acts but also people to talk too. A bookshops opens you up to the universe and it’s cruel to shut something like that down. Paige believes and it won’t take stubborn business people or hottie’s like Blaine to stop here.

A cute, passionate read is a book after every book lovers heart. It’s Quirky & Fun! It’s standing up for what you believe in, and BOOKS! It’s just perfect!

Rating – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A cute and quirky debut which appeals to all bookworms everywhere.

This book read as a love letter to independents and touched on many important issues that are currently facing the high street. Alongside this, there were funny, quirky characters to keep you turning the pages. This was a quick read although I felt that there wasn't a lot of plot development.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Chloe does next.

Paige is awesome! I loved her go-getter attitude and her unwillingness to let things slide. Her friendship with Holly was fab, I loved the way they supported each other and even the one blip they had was minor.

I loved the characters in the life-drawing class, especially Sue, she was a hoot and a great support to the girls! It was obvious fairly quickly that Blaine was not a good guy but it was great seeing him get his comeuppance. My main criticism was that the book seemed very short.

I don't think this book is going to be for everyone. And I think that falls primarily down to the way in which Coles constructs her hyper-realistic-teen narrative voice. This definetly reads younger and better suited toward the younger side of Young Adult audiences with its silly humor (that reminded me a lot like Louise Rennison's books) and excessive oh-em-gees.

This book tries to incorporate feminism into it, but fell kind of flat.

"It's a typical example of Male privilege. The assumption that they can say whatever they like to girls. The assumption that women or girls are there for their entertaiment."

Although this is stated, I never felt like this was pushed back against. Paige only comments on it but never tries to challenge it. Telling the reader that you shouldn't stand for it but not showing the reader that it can be stood against and fully verbalized.

The plot twist at the end with the love interest was very predictable, and he came off as a bit of a knob pretty much the whole way through. Although, I really enjoyed the small tid-bits that we get of some of the older people Paige meets at a life drawing class. They were fun and really supportive, and it felt like a genuine budding friendship between them. Proving that it doesn't matter if you're not the same age, you can still be friends!

This books is outrageously funny. When I say that I laughed out loud, I really do mean it. I was cackling, snorting it really is a novel that tickled me. Paige Turner not only has the best name in YA but is a completely unforgettable personality. As an avid book fan and bookshop lover, I totally adored Paige’s passion for saving her local bookshop. It was great to read a book about a young person having such a powerful impact and showing it can be done! I can’t wait for more escapades with Paige and friends!

A big thank you to NetGalley, HotKey Books and Chloe Coles for my eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I enjoyed this book, it was a nice easy contemporary. I read this in the space of a day on a nice sunny day and it helped me get out of a reading slump. I wouldn't say it's anything overly special or different to other contemporaries out there, but it does the job that a contemporary is supposed to do and provides a light, fluffy read.

I absolutely adored this funny, riotous, uplifting debut novel. If you've ever loved books or bookshops you're guaranteed to find something to love in Chloe Coles' empowering debut.

I am afraid this book took a long time to read. It should not have done. The plot is simple and fun. I rather wish we had been as enterprising in my town when the independent bookshop announced its closure. There was a gentle humour here which contrasted well with an element of menace and mystery. The ending was telegraphed a little but everyone deserved their comeuppance. It could be quite a popular series with 11 - 13 year old girls.
