Nourish and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Easy Thai Cookbook. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given. The Easy Thai Cookbook includes a good blend of recipes from salads, soups, and curries, to stir fry recipes and sauces. The author has separated the book into different sections, including an all important ingredient glossary for those new to Thai food, equipment, cooking methods, foundation recipes such as stocks and sauces, basic recipes, and menu planning. I did have some issues with how the cookbook was laid out, as the recipes were classified by the type of dish and not separated out into different protein types. For readers who use only some of the proteins in their own cooking, it may be cumbersome to page through and find appropriate recipes for them. There are colorful photos to inspire readers to try the recipes, but I wish there were some illustrations for techniques that may be harder for a beginner to visualize. I had hoped that there would be a wide variety of dishes to try, but many of them use ocean based ingredients such as fish sauce or oyster sauce, which I dislike. The Easy Thai Cookbook is visually appealing, but there are very few recipes overall. There is a big section devoted to menus and time management, which is not necessary for me. I would have rather the author use the space to provide more recipes, as there are many good dishes that I would like to try. Two of my favorite recipes are beef and broccoli, with tender beef and crisp vegetables, and stir-fry chicken with basil leaves, with fiery birds eye chilies. For readers who are new to Thai cooking, this quick look at the cuisine may include just the right number of recipes for them. |
This is a very basic Thai cook book. The recipes don’t have many ingredients and they are easy to follow. I would have liked a little more story behind the recipes, and I would also love more photos of tbr food. They had a lot of finished dish photos. Some of the progress photos would be helpful. All in all, I’m excited to try more of these. Thanks to Netgalley for an free copy. |
I love Thai food but hadn't given much thought to cooking it myself. It's a 'treat' meal and a night out since I have a partner with some dietary restrictions. However, I was intrigued as I do enjoy cooking and can often 'tweak' ingredients for healthier options. There is a nice Introduction that provides background information o Thai cuisine as well as a list of items that are most often part of a Thai meal. The second section, The Basics, has an A-Z list of ingredients(actually B-W) that taught me quite a lot. Lime leaves are one example of an ingredient that I had trouble finding and the author stated that if you couldn't get them, you could use grated grapefruit zest(problem solved). There are many recipes for soups, salads, curries, vegetables, desserts and much more. So far, I have made the Clear Soup with Stuffed Mushrooms, the Thai Beef Salad, and the Green Chicken Curry. All very good and there are quite a few more that I look forward to trying. I also thought the Menus section was a great resource as it suggests recipes that work together whether you are packing lunch, looking to make a simple dinner or planning a party. Nutritional information and more pictures are the only two things missing(for me). I received an e Arc of the Easy Thai Cookbook from Nourish through NetGalley. 3.5 stars. |
I found Easy Thai Cookbook by Sallie Morris recipes easy to follow and easy to make as I am a great fan of Thai cook books, Thai food and especially cooking it. However, I found with this book plain, lacked photo's and illustration etc for the recipes especially if you are new to preparing and cooking these recipes. There are better illustrated Thai cookbooks on the market now I found this one dated! |

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and the publishers for an honest review. 'Easy Thai Cookbook' by Sallie Morris is a beginners cookbook filled with some wonderful and delicious recipes. I have some family members who absolutely love Thai Food and I am glad to say that the recipes I trailed were both easy to make and they showed me how easy it was to make delicious Thai dishes to serve. The Chicken Soup with Coconut, Thai Beef Salad, Mixed Stir Fry Vegetables with Fried Bananas for Dessert was judged to be a triumph as all my guests just loved the food and even asked for some of the recipes. I gave them the name of the cookbook and said that they must buy the book. The only two things that I think was not included were more illustrations of the finished dishes and the many typos that need to be proof read. I recommend this book. to all who like Thai food and would like to know some very easy recipes to cook. |

The recipes are authentic and do seem easy enough to make. I like that they are all relatively quick meals as well. My big fault with the book is that I'm not a fan of seafood and nearly all the recipes have some sort of fishy ingredient such as fish oil or oyster oil if it's not a fish recipe itself. That alone makes this book not worth buying for myself, but if you don't mind that, then there are plenty of recipes in this book to enjoy. I would also like if the book was a bit more organized. Separate the recipes into categories such as chicken, seafood, dessert. That would make recipes much easier to find. |
I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher --- Perfect for beginner cooks or Thai food enthusiasts alike, this book is an ideal guide to this delicious and exotic cuisine. Showcasing the ingredients and techniques used in Thai cookery, this book takes you, step by step, through the processes involved in creating tempting, genuine Thai dishes. Part 1 introduces you to the world of Thai cooking, explaining ingredients, equipment and cooking methods, and basics such as stocks, pates, rice and noodles. Part 2 gives you delicious recipes for snacks and appetizers; soups; salads and vegetables; curries; stir-fries; fried dishes; steams, bakes and barbecues; and desserts. Try Prawn Satay, Pumpkin and Coconut Cream Soup, Thai Beef Salad, Thai Mussaman Curry, Stir-Fry Scallops with Chilli and Basil Leaves or Coconut Milk Ice Cream. Part 3 shows you how to put the recipes together to create stunning meals, whether you want a filling bowl of noodles on a weekday evening or a sumptuous weekend feast for friends or family. With twelve menu plans, giving clear instructions and invaluable tips on preparation and timing, the Easy Thai Cookbook enables even the novice cook to prepare the perfect meal for any occasion. This was a hard book to review because the description (as found on Goodreads) basically reviews it for you. Ioved how the setup f the book explained everything for the novice cook and the recipes looked amazing. In our current -record-breaking-temperature-humidity-level-weather these are easily and quickly knocked out in the kitchen. (It's alway's hot and steamy in Thailand so they know about quick cooking methods, bar-none!) A great book to get you into Thai cooking, for sure, and great recipes for cooks looking to att to their cooking repertoire. |
EASY THAI COOKBOOK by Southeast Asian cooking expert Sallie Morris offers 70 simple delicious recipes for making this ever popular cuisine. The book with very pretty photos divides into three sections. BASICS covers ingredients; equipment; cooking methods; and stocks, sauces and pastes. RECIPES offers tasty dishes from snacks to entrees to desserts. MENUS pulls it all together so you’re prepared to make a simple lunch or dinner, or even throw a drinks or dinner party. My tummy was rumbling over descriptions for Tom Yam soup, fish cakes, steamed mussels, green chicken curry, and stir-fry duck. If you adore Thai food as I do, you’ll enjoy EASY THAI COOKBOOK. 4/5 Thanks to Nourish and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are fully mine. #EasyThaiCookbook #NetGalley |
I was really excited to try this cookbook, however, I found it to be a little disappointing. First of all, the errors and random capitalizations throughout was really distracting from the book. Many ingredients are given in grams and ounces which makes it a little less user friendly if you use ounces since it is not quite as easy to read or glance back at when preparing a meal. The recipes also don't have pictures or nutritional facts, so if that is something you like cookbooks to have, this does not. Rather, it is like reading recipes typed out in a word document with a description and instructions and ingredients. It wasn't for me, but if you don't care about those things, the recipes look like they could be good, but I couldn't get past a few since the incorrect sentence structure drove me crazy... |
