I really enjoyed this book. My only criticism would be if like to know more detail of what happened to Jess while she was on The research programme. I would read more by the same author and would recommend it to others.

The Truth About Lies was an interesting book with insight into memory. I wish it had been more sinister, with the organisation behind Jess/Freya being more of a threat.

Jess has Hyperthymesia “a condition which leads people to remember an abnormally large amount of past life experiences in vivid detail.”

I loved that this book had a different angle from the normal psychological thriller. I was intrigued by the condition Hyperthymesia and how it would affect a young girls life.

Jess’s roommate Hanna has killed herself but someone is leaving her messages and it may not be a straightforward suicide.

We find out Jess isn’t who she is supposed to be and when new student Dan appears, Jess tries to keep her distance but their friendship and Jess revealing her past is very touching.

An enjoyable book full of mysteries, just when you think you know where this is heading there is a twist that will keep you guessing until the end.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a

This was deliciously suspenseful and full of action, secrets and lies. Jess is a fantastic character, unique and tormented by her past. Most of the things that the program put her through are only skimmed over, but the effects of them are so obvious in her voice and actions. She's so traumatised and closed off. And she just feels very, very real.

There are so many mysteries here. First in the facts surrounding Hanna's death and how much Jess did or didn't do to encourage her along and second in Jess's history. In the details of the program and in her mum's death. It's so interesting that right from the start Jess knows all the answers, all of them locked away in her memory, or so she thinks.

I have to say, I enjoyed every single second of this book. I loved the characters and the plot. It was just a brilliant book from start to finish.

Pretty classical mystery story in an interesting setting - through the eyes of a girl with a perfect memory.

Hyperthymesia gave this book a very interesting perspective. It was the main reason I wanted to read this book. I'm always in search for books that show radically different life experiences (from my pov). Okay I don't mean like I wanna read Hitlers life story but blind people, deaf people, lgbtqia+, people with magic, superpowers or living in the future. This one was great at that giving a very realistic idea what it is to remember everything. It was very believable to me and it made me feel compassion towards the MC.

The "murder mystery" plot is a nice add to the Hyperthymesia based book. It gives an actual story behind a distinct character. When I first started reading this I was surprised cause it wasn't what I was expecting. [(I expected a thriller but when I started reading this I thought the MC is a serial killer. I was so sure about it. And then the book changed) (hide spoiler)]. And then the theme turned again back to what I was expecting but I wasn't expecting it any more so it was a pleasant surprise. Does that make any sense?

In the end I liked this book, there were bits that will stay with me but mostly I will probably forget about this book and it was very dull to read at times and it took me ages.

An interesting book that is very well written told by protagonist who might be telling the truth or going out of her mind. This book kept me reading and I couldn't put it down. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good thrilling read.

Jess roommate has died. It is stated as a suicide, but we start to become unsure of that truth. Jess has a photographic memory. She remembers everything she’s ever experienced. There is good and bad that comes with that. Jess starts to get creepy notes from a stranger which leads her to believe someone is following her and someone knows the truth about her and about what happened to her roommate. Who is following her?

The hidden identity of Jess portrayed in the beginning of the book totally grabbed my attention. She sheds some light on what happened to her family and I needed to know more! Not long after, we are introduced to her love interest Dan. I felt that was super rushed and he was to perfect, but as I kept reading, I enjoyed their relationship more and more. This book is not a romance book, but it adds a nice level to the story. In terms of the story behind her roommates death, I felt that dragged on. I think this story was way more about Jess’ hidden life than it was her roommate. I say that because the novel started out almost completely focused on the mystery of what truly did happen to her roommate. The ending did catch me off guard which I was happy about. I couldn’t predict that coming! It was a bit slow, but enjoyable read. Thank you netgalley and stripes publishing for the read!

Jess attends a fancy boarding school and like all good fancy boarding school stories, our heroine has secrets. Her roommate is dead and Jess might have good reason to feel guilty about it. And she can remember the incident in perfect detail. Jess doesn't just have a good memory, she remembers literally everything that's ever happened to her and can re-live it precisely. However she's keeping this particular talent to herself because she's hiding from a narcissistic doctor who wants to use her as a guinea pig.

If unlikeable heroines are your bag then you'll want to check out Jess. She can be arrogant, superior and downright cruel at times. I'm not sure I can forgive some of the things she's done but I don't need to like her to be interested in her story.
Dan, is nice love interest and I mean that sincerely. There aren't enough 'nice' boys in books. He's sweet, thoughtful and fun and I much prefer him to the swathes of bad boys that abound.
Ya psychological thrillers about amnesia have been really popular over the last few years and so this is kind of a swing in the opposite direction although if you like those books then you'll probably like this one too and I think a lot of my students will want to get their hands on this. I'll happily recommend it.
However, I personally found the first third of the book disengaging, as it felt very familiar to other 'girl with exceptional gifts' books. I probably wouldn't have continued reading if I had paid for it. Ironically, each time I picked it up I kept forgetting who everyone was and what I was reading. But ultimately I'm glad I continued. It is open to a sequel and if it gets one then I will be reading it.
