This is a quick, highly entertaining, sweetly sexy romantic journey filled with passion and a child hood love that is given a thrilling second chance.... Nathaniel Meier is a sexy, sweet, charming and determined rancher look to keep the family ranch going and throwing his whole heart and soul into the job. Unexpected help comes to town from the least like of persons, his childhood sweetheart January Rose, who he never thought he would see again.... Loved every heart pounding twist in this emotional adventure. |
Another great book series by Leslie North this one brings you back to America but it is a character twist the women is the hard one to commit instead of the man. I received this copy from NetGalley to review. |
This is an enchanting second-chance romance, elevated to an almost ethereal level with its lyrical prose and down-home country witticisms. Nat and January have always loved each other, but her refusal to stay in one place is at odds with his refusal to abandon his family’s ranch. This simple description belies the complex emotional turmoil that is intimately explored in this story, as January comes home for one week and finds herself right back in Nat’s orbit. The author’s writing style is a joy to read, full of humor and heartfelt insights into the human psyche. The story is instantly captivating, the characters – from the main H/h and the secondary roles all the way through to the entire town’s cast of characters – are fully-developed and set in a perfectly described small rural Texas town. If you’re a fan of contemporary cowboy romances (and seriously, who isn’t?) you don’t want to miss this series. This story will remind you of all the unique characters you know and every love story you’ve ever experienced. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book through NetGalley. |
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy. I usually like second chance romances but I had hard time liking January in this book. I could understand Nat when he could not follow his dreams of writing when he had to stay and keep the ranch going and January left without a word. I really could not understand when January just left with no word to Nat, then later we learn that she sat and watched him as he waited and could see that he was heartbroken. Nat had said that he would wait for her but she stayed away for 10 years with absolutely no word to Nat. They really needed to talk to each other and understand what the other thinks or needs and try to compromise. They were both set in their situation and didn't see a way to change until the end. Glad that they finally figured things out and had a HEA! |
Nathaniel Meier is one hardworking rancher. He is the last man standing working the ranch in Close Call. With his Grandfather and Father dead and his Mother off "finding herself", his brothers living their own lives, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders just keeping his head above water, let alone the keeping the ranch running to a profit. With the bank on his back and selling season in full steam, Nat certainly doesn't need the love of his life turning up after being off roaming the world for ten years. January Rose was a wanderer, yes she loved Nathaniel Miller, but she was sure she made the right decision leaving the way she did. Nat was not of the same opinion but the hurt was just as raw now as it was ten years ago. January was out of money, and was only back at Close Call to pick up her inheritance and be on her way to another work-travel assignment in Nepal. She was a bit shocked to find her mother Mona was living in a van on Close Call land. Mona was hoping January would stick around for a while and seeing as she was here now, she was going to make sure January got to work helping Nat herd the cattle ready for sale. Of course Mona knows how January and Nat feel about each other, and if she can get January to finally leave her wandering ways behind and give Nat the chance he needs to convince her to stay, she will use every trick in the book along with a little bit of guilt for good measure to make it happen. Great read in the first book of the series and looking forward to reading more about the Meier brothers. Thanks to Netgalley and Relay Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book. |
Good little read with a great characters. I physically wanted to shake January Rose and shout at her "omg stay home and and get with him". The chemistry between them literally jumped off the pages while I was reading it. I was thrilled when the book ended with a happy ending. I'm excited for the next books. |
This was a very nice book and a great read! I am giving this review in exchange for Advanced Readers copy before publication. These two souls are sad and they question some of their choices in life but manage to find a way to lean on each other for strength. I felt it was well written and I wanted to see them find happiness after so much sadness in their lives. I encourage those who like ranch stories and reading about people who find ways to overcome obstacles in life. A positive in my view! |

I would have stopped reading this book if I hadn't committed to completing a review. I normally enjoy Leslie's books but I didn't enjoy the writing style of this one. Overly long descriptive sentences that I often found myself rereading to try to understand, farming terminology which meant nothing to me and sayings which may mean something to Southern Americans but left me scratching my head. The story jumped around also. As for the characters she was fun but flighty and he was just stuck. I didn't feel a connection to them and the story was just slow and boring. |
Nathaniel knew when he thought of January the unexpected would occur. Her sudden disappearance and how she reappeared in his life ten years later. He was crushed when the love of his life left their small town. Focusing on keeping his families ranch afloat he struggles with the legacy he must uphold. Pushing his dreams to the side he rekindles his lost love with January. Have her wandering ways finally come to an end as she accepts the one thing she was looking for was by her side all along. Great start to a new series. |
Problems and misconceptions twisted into a romance that stops the heart. This novel, written my Ms North, is amongst some of her best work. Readers familiar with Ms North’s work will expect a HEA and know the way there will not be easy – this story is ideal for the romantic, with thrills and turns that pull at a reader’s emotions and drag a tear from the eye, along with a giggle or smirk. Worth the read for the characters alone, as Ms North definitely paints a picture of a hero you want sweeping you off your feet and a heroine to melt the hardest hearts. |

As usual this was a great read by Leslie North. She has a great writing style that pulls you in and makes you feel like you are part of the book. |
Very fun story. January came home after being gone 10 years. Nat had mixed feelings about it. He had been in love with her when they were teenagers and she had left without a word. He heard from her from time to time but he was heartbroken. This time, he knew she was going to leave again and tried to steel his heart against her. It didn't work, but he tried. Leslie North writes a good love story. I'm off to read the next in the series. I got this book from NetGalley for an honest review. |
Great Characters, Great Story, Great Start to the Meier Ranch Brothers series. I loved Nathaniel & January, Nat’s strength for family loyalty and his vulnerability to wear his honesty on his sleeve made my heart break and rejoice for him at the same time. J needed to find her true north and through all the turmoil continued to venture the world in hope. The way these two compromised when all seemed lost made for a great story and a series I look forward to reading more of. |
i Enjoyed this book. I did think that Nat wasn’t maybe as strong a lead character as January but it was good nonetheless. I liked the thread of January being a wanderer but she also came across as quite selfish in what she wants rather than a mutual want until the end of the book. A good read overall |
I sadly could not get into this book. I loved the description and that is what made me excited to read this book. Even in the first chapter I wasn't able to get into it. I wasn't going to finish, but I ended up skimming the book to read all of it. |
This is the first book I have read by this author. I liked the lead male character Nate but the female not so much. The characters are well developed and the story line is good but I just never felt like this book grabbed me and kept me interested. I finished the book because I received it in exchange for an honest review. It wasn't a bad story and it had some good moments but it didn't make me want to read more books by this author and seems rather forgettable. |
3.5 stars, I enjoyed this book but it's not exactly my favorite. Simply because I was expecting more, you know, drama. One of my favorite thing in the world. Of romance. Not in the world world, but more like things that spice up my reading. Hehe. But overall I adore the chemistry between the characters and the writing also pretty good. It's the first time I read a book from this author. Definitely will read more! |
January Rose has always been a free spirit and as a teen, dreamed of traveling the world. The moment she graduated high school, she left Close Call, Texas and the man she loved. Rancher Nathaniel Meier has always had to put his responsibilities first. His father died, his mother took off to "find herself" and his brothers are away. It is his responsibility to run the families cattle ranch. He struggles with making a profit every year with the bank breathing down his neck. This year, he needs all the help he can get when the last person he ever thought he would see again comes back - January Rose. Ten years later, January has roamed the world, sending postcards from exotic locations. She has searched for that place to call home. Will she realize that Nat is her home? Can Nat take a risk to tame the wandering January? I was amazed by this book. I loved the characters, from Nat and January to Mona and Wes when he returned home. The plot was like a rollercoaster of emotion with the tension between Nat and January so thick you could cut it. I felt like I was living on the Meier ranch. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! |

It was just ok almost bordering on boring. Nothing much stood out at all. The characters weren't popping and the story was blah. |
This is he first book I've read by Leslie and I enjoyed it. The writing style was a bit different than what I'm use to but it was short and sweet. January and Nat have a history so when she comes back I was wondering how Nat would handle it. I didn't really like how selfish January appeared to be and my heart hurt for Nat because all he saw was responsibility and loss. January did redeem herself and I loved Wes and how he helped Nat to see beyond the burden of his responsibility. Really good story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a short read with the perfect ending. |
