Lovely insightful book about ways and methods of improving your skincare! I wasn't able to use all the techniques and recipes but I have added some masks to my regime and hopefully in the long run will benefit my skin! I do enjoy a little pamper session

Whaaat, another review already? What is going on here? Yes, I do seem rather prolific this week, but I’m eager to get through some of the excellent non-fiction titles so that I can give you a few awesome fiction titles to meet!

My interest in natural skin care first arose in my teen years. Like so many of my peers, I was plagued with acne and sought both to alleviate the ugly, red pimples and reduce the appearance of my pores. Because I had better things to spend my allowance on than expensive creams and tinctures (hello! Books and music, of course!), and because I’ve always enjoyed stirring things together, I experimented with making my own products. Over the years, I’ve bought, read, and discarded a number of instruction manuals on the subject, but this is one I would actually get for myself.

“Pure Skin Care” is divided into two major parts. In part one, you learn what skin is made of and what it does for you, how to determine your skin type, and how best to pamper it. From the get-go, you’ll find the chapters augmented by info boxes to deepen your understanding on the given subject. You’ll also find out how to choose your tools and containers to store your products safely, and there is an introduction to basic techniques to make the magic happen.

As you might have guessed, part two is all about recipes. The remaining four chapters provide a plethora of easy-to-make products that will have you glowing from face to feet. Notice that haircare is not covered in this book; after all, hair is not skin. Every recipe notes which skin type the product is recommended for and comes with easy instructions on making, storing, and using it. The vast majority is vegan-friendly, although some recipes include honey, yoghurt, or buttermilk. Friends of short ingredient lists will love this book: some recipes require only one or two items, and most can be made with a small handful.

If you’re unsure where to source your oils, etc., you will find a handy resource guide after the glossary (look here to learn the difference between base oils and essential oils, what to look for when buying essential oils, and everything you need to know about using herbs) and the ingredient dictionary. At the very end is also a recommended reading list, if you would like to delve deeper.

The book has a layout that is easy on the eye and is illustrated with luscious photos that will get you in the mood for a spa day right away.

“Pure Skin Care” is published by Storey Publishing. I received a free copy via Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own. Publishing date is September 18, 2018.

I can’t get over how fantastic this book is! Having been on a quest for the past year to find more natural skincare remedies, this is the book that finally has everything I’ve been looking for. The author starts off by giving an in depth explanation of how our skin works, how diet, sleep and exercise are so important and how to determine your skin type. Then, she gives a rundown of all the tools you’ll need to concoct the recipes in the book.
The rest of the book is dedicated to loads of seriously wonderful recipes for pampering your skin.
I have combination skin that is prone to acne, and I am especially looking forward to trying the ever-so-gentle soap-lover’s face and body wash, grease-be-gone parsley and peppermint astringent, and healing thyme elixir. I love that the ingredients called for are easy to come by. A lot of my other books on this subject call ingredients I can only source over the internet, making the projects very costly. I plan on making a lot of these concoctions for my friends and family as gifts.
I am very pleased to have gotten the chance to read and review this great book! I will post my review to amazon as soon as the option is available.

A complete guide about natural and not toxic ways to replace personal care products for women and men. The recipes are step by step tutorial with practical pictures. This book can be a good choice for people having mild allergic reactions or other skin sensitivities resulting from synthetic products.

As I am currently going through the phase of getting rid of as much chemicals as possible in my life and my home, this book is exactly what I was looking for!
The first part of the book contain some very valuable information about how to take care of your skin (and your whole body) and help you determine your skin type.
This book contains a vast number of recipes for cleansers, toners, marks, steams, conditioners... It really feels like a cookbook as you can clearly see the preparation time, storage advice and list of ingredients.
The only downside is that some of the ingredients do not look easy to find, but overall recipes look simple enough for everyone to make.
I cannot wait to try all of the recipes and feel all the benefits!

A really beautiful and informative book on pure, natural skin care. I really liked the first chapter on caring for your skin as it contained a lot of useful information. There are a lot of great recipes for making your own skin care but I'm not sure if I'll be trying out any at home. There were some specialist ingredients required which I'm not sure where to find in my town and I do not use honey in any way which rules out a lot of the recipes for me. If you are really into DIY skincare though, i would highly recommend this book and the recipes are pretty straightforward. The book itself is beautiful to look at and the glossary at the back is extremely helpful.

What an exciting yet educational book! Having healthy skin is important, and what you put on your skin and into your pores makes a difference with your health. I have already wanted to make more of my own skincare products, and I think now that I've read this book I might actually give it a try. Store bought products normally have a ridiculous amount of ingredients in them, and I think I would feel better knowing exactly what I'm putting on my face, or on my body. This book is full of amazing recipes for pure and clean skin care products, with simple instructions that make them seem easy as pie. I'm always down for a good DIY, so i might have to try some of these ideas on my next girls night.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I truly appreciate it!

I requested this book because my oldest daughter is very interested in skincare and making skincare products and because I don't like any of us to use chemicals (yes, I am THAT mom).

This book has A LOT of recipes and A LOT of great information about skin care.  My daughter was especially impressed with the information on chemical exposure and your skin.

Some of the recipes are very simple, just one or two ingredients with explicit instructions on how to apply to your skin and how it works.  Other recipes required several exotic ingredients.  We have a good stash of essential oils; vitamin e oil, almond and jojoba, so we made a list of some essentials to buy: beeswax, shea butter, vegetable glycerin, cocoa butter.  We were able to make a variety of the recipes with what we had on hand and we should be able to make almost all of the skincare recipes by buying those four things on Amazon for about $40.

We had the ingredients to make the Mellow Yellow Banana Cream Mask which was very luxurious.  My younger daughter made the Peaches and Cream glow mask and thought it was perfect for summer.  We made the Salt of the Earth Body Scrub, which I felt worked great and looks really pretty in a jar on the display shelves in my bathroom!  I was most excited about the steams and had the ingredients for all of them -- it was a difficult choice, but so far I have tried the Stress-Reducing Express Steam and the Restorative Herbal Steam (perfect time of year to gather leaves from our raspberry bushes and fresh mint!).  We also made the Hydrating Honey Scrub.  I love that all of these things used plants and natural ingredients and they all made us feel amazing!!  I am looking forward to making some of the foot soaks and experimenting with the facial lotions.

This book is a great reference book when you need a skin care reset. Starting from nutrition on the inside to maintenance on the outside. The book focuses on skin care for the whole body, not just face.

I have already implemented techniques from the book that I hadn't heard elsewhere and am excited to see the results and use the recipes for my skin!

Super simple tips and recipes, anyone can have healthy skin!

I can't wait to try out some of the recipes in the book. I am trying to move away from a lot of store bought facial products and start to make my own.

For several years now, i have only used natural and chemical free, cosmetics and skin care,so i was excited to receive a copy of Pure Skin Care, to read and test out the recipes.
This book covers everything, that you need, to make your own skincare products at home, using readily available ingredients. The first chapter covers, caring for your skin and includes determining your skin type and also diet and therapies, and which skin product is best for you, the individual..
The book gives recipes to make your own skin toners, cleansers, moisturisers, scrubs, balms, and ointments and lots of others ideas, too. Every item has its own fab names, such as 'Outta Here' , Oil Skin Scrub, which gave the book a unique feel. Each recipe also includes a little box to the side of it, stating the recommended skin types, including sensitive and environmentally damaged skin.
I decided to make the Lemon Refresher Skin Toner ,which suits my oily skin type and i found it both, very simple to get hold of the ingredients and to make, and will be using this from now on, as it is half the cost of buying a manufactured brand name. I intend to make the Sweet and Spicy Body Polish, this week, and they will look great in some nice jars and good enough to give as gifts.
All in all i just adore this book as it uses natural and easily available ingredients, at low cost and has easy recipes with lots of essential oil, based ones included, which smell delicious and are great for the skin and i would recommend to anyone looking to make their own skin care.
I just reviewed Pure Skin Care by Stephanie L. Tourles. #PureSkinCare #NetGalley
