I thought this book contained some really nice sauce receipes, and as a new mum I think they'll come in handy! That being said, I don't think there was anything new here and not sure the fact that some were a pasta sauce, or to be served on rice, needed explaining |

In The Make-Ahead Sauce Solution, Elisabeth Bailey provides a rich variety of sauces. There are sauces for, nearly, every palate, and region of the world. Whether you're a fan of Latin-American cuisine, or Asian fare that dances on your tongue you will be satisfied by these recipes. As a novice myself, I deeply appreciated that Ms. Bailey included a guide for what to pair the sauce with (chicken, pasta, beef, etc.). And, for those of us who like to freeze-ahead, there is a section that details how to effectively package and freeze these recipes for future use. All in all, this is a nice cookbook to have if you want to spice up your meals. |
I love, Love, LOVE this cookbook. It's really well-formated so that any cook or eater can find recipes that are easy to make & suit everyone's abilities and tastes. Even better the recipes are creative and sound delicious. The idea is this, make sauces on the weekend and freeze them in portions appropriate for you. Get out a sauce to defrost in the morning and combine it with one of her simple bases. Add other simple sides and you have a quick and easy meal. The first part of the book covers the bases; these include vegetarian, seafood, and meat options. These recipes are very basic but they are the start of your actual meal. The remainder of the book covers the sauces, grouped by geographic area. None of these are the kind of complex sauces that frighten many cooks. Instead they are easy enough to make that a beginner could tackle them easily. The best part of the book comes immediately following each recipe. It's a table that tells you the best bases to pair with each sauce, how much to use per serving and what to pair it with for a complete meal. I love that this will elevate our dinners to something special without sacrificing easy meals. |
I loved this easy to follow and yummy cookbook! I myself quite often run into the trap of coming home after a long day at work and realizing that if I want a nice meal I'll need to spend at least an hour in the kitchen. And who has the energy for that? That is the premise Bailey starts her cookbook with. By prepping some sauces during the weekend, everything can be made scrumptious within minutes! The first chapter is dedicated to different ways to store and reheat the sauces. The next section focuses on the "bases", easy to prepare food you can then pour your sauces over, whether it's beef, chicken, pasta or bread. I actually loved this section for the simple suggestions Bailey gave to prepare these quickly but deliciously. The sauces are split into different chapters, focusing first on sauces from the Americas, then Asia and then wine & cheese sauces. There were a lot of great ones included here that sounded perfect for me, so I dutifully took notes. I'll definitely be trying them out in the future! |

This cookbook has good tips on freezing sauces. It has a wide range of recipes and provides suggestions for using the sauces. |
I loved this book! The basic premise is that you should fill your freezer with a variety of easy to make sauces that can then be served with a variety of protein or starches. A nifty chart gives you ideas on how to create a meal around a sauce and they have some very tasty looking ideas. The book is clearly written, has great photographs and is very inspiring about cooking and eating at home. I want to go start making sauces just thinking about this book. |
Make- Ahead Sauce is a great recipe book. It features a lot of different sauces, and how to use them with cooking. I like the variety and the freezing part of the book. This is definitely a book for busy people who likes to have healthy food but hates it bland. |

Sometimes all you really need is to give a favorite dish a makeover by changing the flavor via a different sauce. This book give you that opportunity. The various sauces presented will be ones you know as well as some new ideas. Think out of the box and give them a try. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book but the opinions expressed are my own. |
I enjoyed reading The Make-Ahead Sauce Solution cookbook since it provided great ideas to be more efficient in the kitchen. For years, I have done make-ahead and freeze meal preparation on the weekend to make weeknights easier. What I haven't considered is that I can also make weekend sauce batches, and that will also make cooking with time constraints less of an issue. Every sauce recipe is accompanied by different meal ideas. An example in the Asian Inspired section is a Green Onion Ginger sauce that could be paired with bokchoy, tofu, chicken, shrimp, pork, or beef. How easy to plan a shopping list and put together good meals when everything is so well organized. I have made and frozen the Thai Peanut Sauce(and paired it with the suggested pan-fried shrimp), the Parmesan Leek Sauce(with chicken), and the Cheddar Ale Sauce(over macaroni). All the meals were quite good and I would make them again. There are so many more sauces that I plan to try and with multiple pairings for each one, I will be able to refer to this book for a long time. The pictures are gorgeous and I just found this to be a well thought out and useful cookbook. The sauce recipes have 6 or less easy to find ingredients which was another plus for me. Sometimes(OK a lot of the time), I just want to cook a good meal, not a Top Chef-worthy, 4 Michelin star meal. The only thing missing for me was nutritional information. I received an e ARC from Storey Publishing through NetGalley. |
A huge variety of options for different tastes. Each sauce offers ideas on what to use it on and serving suggestions. |
I collect recipe books. I truely enjoyed looking through this book & finding at least three recipe sauces I want to try. |
Thank you Storey Publishing for this free review copy. I think this book is brilliant. I'm always pressed for time or ideas for dinner, and this concept of ready-to-go sauces could be a real time saver. I like that meal ideas are included for the sauces as well. I'll definitely be giving these a try. |
I absolutely love this cookbook! The amount of different types of sauces is tremendous. The pictures show the beauty of the finished products and the recipes are easy to make. The ingredients are also easily acquired. I can’t wait to make some of them. |
I've never seen any cookbook quite like this, and I think it's fantastic. First, there's an introductory section with information on how to best cook the foods that can be enhanced by these sauces, including pasta, potatoes, rice, tofu, chicken, pork, seafood, and beef, and how the sauces can be used, when appropriate, as a sandwich spread or even as a soup base. There is also clearly written and helpfully photographed information on how to freeze the sauces. Then the recipes begin, organized by type of cuisine and types of sauce, plus pestos and salsas and even flavor enhancers like flavored butters and salts. I haven't had a chance to try any recipes yet, but they look great. They are clearly written, beautifully photographed, and I loved how each recipe ends with a list of the foods these sauces could be used with, including the amount of sauce for each food and how to apply it. If you multiply the number of sauces by the number of suggestions for using each sauce, you get hundreds of delicious-sounding recipes, each of which can be made quickly and easily with the thawed sauces. I love to cook a lot on weekends and then freeze things, and this book is full of great inspiration. The only addition I would have liked to see would be nutritional information, including calories for each sauce, but that aside I think this is an absolutely fabulous book and I would highly recommend it. I can absolutely see giving this book as a gift to your favorite busy cook. To be honest, I generally don't buy cookbooks anymore since I think one can so easily find recipes online, but I would make an exception for this unique and, well, exceptional book! Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance e-galley of this gem. |
This cook book offers a large variety of sauce recipes. The sauces can be made in large batches, frozen and used over time. The only thing missing was a section on canning the sauces. Overall, well worth purchasing. |
This book is such a help for the busy family. As a mom always looking for new, quick ways to make a decent dinner on nights when my husband and I are both working, kids have homework and sports, I really appreciate books like this. You can warm up your basic staples; pasta, chicken, pork and more, and with the addition of these make ahead sauces you can create flavorful meals that the family will be looking forward to eating instead of complaining about “chicken again?” Great for meal ideas as well as leftover prep. This book has it all, including suggestions as to what sauces turn into great soups. The most important aspect is that most of the recipes are easy to replicate and don’t include special tools, a culinary degree or an entire day to complete, yet are still versatile. |

I love the idea of a sauce cookbook, because everything is really just a vessel for sauce. I found some of the sauce recipes to be unique and interesting, but there weren't a lot that I would personally use. There were also some sauces that I already have a recipe for, and based on the ingredient list, I don't think some of the sauces would be as flavorful as the recipes I already have. I do appreciate the instructions about how to freeze different sauces. I usually just freeze my pestos in icecube trays, but don't know what to do with the rest of the sauces I make. The suggestions about how to use the sauce were all very similar. Overall, an interesting concept, but just not as new and different as I was hoping. |
What a great idea! Make dozens of sauces, freeze them in meal-size packages, and use them on plain meats, poultry, tofu, vegetables, rice, etc. The Make-Ahead Sauce Solution: Elevate Your Everyday Meals with 61 Freezer-Friendly Sauces by Elizabeth Bailey includes sauces for quick everyday meals as well as fancier meals for special occasions or company. This cookbook is a perfect solution to save time in a busy world. The recipes are easy to follow, and the book includes photographs of some of the recipes, which is helpful. The book is well-organized. It includes a chapter on freezing, with hints for not only the sauces, but lots of other things you may want to freeze. There are also methods for making sauces with different textures. The chapter on bases for your sauces is excellent. It includes pasta, baked potatoes, rice, tofu, chicken, seafood, pork, and beef with ways to prepare them to accept the luscious sauces. The sauces can also be used on sandwiches, in soups, and on vegetables which adds to the versatility of these sauces. After the basic recipes for sauces, the book has suggestions and instruction for using the sauce on several of the basic bases outlined in the earlier chapter. Most of the sauces are quite easy to make, which is very appealing to anyone who is busy (and who isn’t!). Favorites that have been tested in my kitchen are: Chipotle Sauce (creamy and good), an excellent Creole Sauce (pictured with Shrimp and Grits – Yum!), a simple Mole, Buffalo Sauce (great on grilled Brussels sprouts with blue cheese dipping sauce), a good Thai Peanut Sauce, and a spicy Arrabiata Sauce. There are about a dozen more in my queue, and I’m constantly grilling extra meats, chicken, and fish to have ready to use these wonderful sauces on. The Make-Ahead Sauce Solution: Elevate Your Everyday Meals with 61 Freezer-Friendly Sauces is highly recommended for anyone who likes good sauces and likes to save time but still turn out gourmet-level dishes in a hurry. Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book. |
