"The Lion and the Bride" isn't exactly my cup of tea. I liked the artwork but I found the story to be a bit... meh. It's just isn't for me.

Beautiful illustrations and the plot is really exciting and Kind of romantic. I think the manga is a must have for every romantic Person.

Love stories between a teacher and his student are very common in shojo mangas. Usually, they are almost equal in age, so their relationship isn't so inappropriate. But, in this case, the teacher is twice the age of his student - he also has a son who attends the same class! This man proves to be very immature and his behavior is very improper. The characters don't show any love, and they haven't any depth either. The marriage is underestimated, and the woman is portrayed only as a "good wife".
I really disliked it!

This is my first time ever reading a manga and I have to admit, I enjoyed it so much! It was a bit of an adjustment at first, reading from right to left and not the opposite, but I got the hang of it and it didn't bother me at all after the first couple of pages!

The story was very fun and entertaining and it ended in a cliff hanger and I was like: "Where's the next volume???" It really left me wondering what will happen next and to be honest, what happened at the end was something I was wishing to happen from the start and that's mainly why I'm so anxious and excited to get my hands on the second volume as well!

As far as characters go, I didn't fully relate to Yua-chan but that didn't mean that I didn't enjoy the manga! Marrying your teacher is something that you don't see often but it also adds originality to the story and I liked it a lot, because it spiced up the plot and led to many funny and embarrassing moments for Yua and Sensei. I believe that I didn't relate as much as I hoped to Yua-chan is due to the fact that the character development wasn't complete, since there are more volumes to read. I'm sure that if I read more about her and how she delt with being married to her teacher, I would be able to fully understand her and her motives.

All in all, "The Lion and the Bride" is an exciting manga with original and fun characters, that will definitely keep your interest and have you want more after you finish!

After reading other reviews I thought I wouldn't like it, but shockingly enough I definitely enjoyed it. I thought the romance was cute, though strange. The father and son aspect mixed with the teacher and student romance was funny. There were definitely awkward points that made me question the story itself, but as I finished it I enjoyed it. Definitely would finish up reading this manga series.

It’s about a girl and her teacher. Both are in love and even get married. But he’s telling her almost to late that he have a son who’s in her age. They going to class together and the whole situation is weird. But as they get to know each other better the weirder it gets. I’m really curious how the story will end.

Thus begins the trials of being married and living together while also being a student/teacher relationship. But will her new son start to develop feelings for his father's bride?

I really liked this manga. I liked the art style and the storyline was interesting - Her family had died and so, in marrying her Sensei, she now has her own little family - a husband and his son.

The cliffhanger, though. Woah. Talk about family drama.

Honestly, I think I might pick these up in stores. It's really good. I love the art style and the plot, and the characters are dimensional and not cardboard copies of one another.

I am such a Shoujo manga addict and this just looked so cute. It's one of those concepts where there is a student/teacher relationship going on and the teacher secretly marries the student to basically save/help her. Think Faster Than A Kiss scenario (but I loved that manga).

This girl, Yua, is pretty stuck up and selfish though. At some points we do see a softer side, it almost seems like she's putting on a front in front of others though so I'm okay with that as long as it's not her true personality.

The teacher is a bit.. I dunno. Secretive. Who doesn't tell the girl they're dating the big stuff like.. *ahem* spoiler coming so avert your eyes if you don't want to see.

You're divorced and have a son the same age as your new wife!!!! Subaru is adorable though, I have to say. Ditch the sensei, because I'm shipping the son and Yua. And his dad looked so angry when he helped Yua out when she hurt her foot. Get real. He's your son and she's a young girl, if you're so insecure someone will steal her don't offer to marry her in the first place.

The whole student/teacher and age-gap thing especially when she's still a teen in high school and he's a divorcee with a kid her age, well it isn't ideal for me plot-wise. But if she ditches the sensei and falls for Subaru I'm game.

At first blush, I wasn't too into this series. It started out with characters for whom I didn't feel a shred of sympathy, and it seemed conventional and formulaic - typical high school drama-romance story. Ok. And then the first chapter ended with a surprise. And then the next chapter ended with the surprise, and so on. The characters grew on me though Sensei still seems a little blah.

This isn't typically the type of series to which I would be drawn (though if I were cross-examined in court, I might fess up to having read all of Kimi ni Todoke), but I could see myself reading the next one because I'm curious about the story. And I might even recommend it to you if I weren't too embarrassed to do so.

If you're into high school romance manga, this was made just for you. So check it out!

Shoujo manga that I fell for.
The premise I really intriguing, for sure controversial, but... I'm just a sucker for it!
Student and teacher relationships are common, but to make one worth anything for sure you need more than great drawing. And IMO here I got everything I wanted: drama, emotions, interest, slow-burn idea and I GOT IT!

Yua is dating her high school teacher, and when her grandmother dies, she has nowhere to go, so she marries her teacher, but he has a secret past that will threaten their married bliss.

This manga is just so ridiculously silly that I ended up loving it! I mean, the whole situation of marrying a teacher is already fraught with impossible scenarios, and this manga takes it to a whole new level of hilarious drama.

I loved the gorgeous art style, and simple school setting. The characters are very dramatic and moody, as they sulk and sneak and whisper secrets. Emotions are flying high on every page, and Yua is in tears in every chapter.

I enjoyed reading it so much, and I can't wait to grab the next volumes!

So, the first thing you have to understand is that there is a high school girl dating her teacher. Yeah, I don't agree with it in real life, but it is a trope I liked as a kid and just haven't grow out of. I'll just call it problematic, much like that one comic I read where the woman was literally dating a bear.... 

Anyhow, the art is super cute. Things don't go as expected in this story and I'd like to see more about why Yua and her teacher are together. The story of course will be dramatic, but this is a variation I haven't read before and was interested the entire time. I honestly wonder what will happen with their relationship, as well, and wonder if she will instead go to someone else. This is one I probably will continue reading.

MY RATING: 2.5 stars

The premise of this manga is probably by far the weirdest plot of any manga I have ever read. Are you ready for it? A young teenage girl marries her high school teacher in secret and then she finds out the most popular kid in school is his son from a previous marriage. Oh, and the manga is definitely hinting at a future relationship between this teenage girl and her step son! What. Even?!

I do have to admit that I did get sucked into the story for just a tiny while. It was interesting, but the plot is a tiny bit messed up. And as much as I love mangas, I'm starting to get really sick and tired of how anti-sex characters in mangas are. Weird relationship aside, unless someone has a legitimate reason for not wanting to be intimate with someone (e.g. being asexual), not wanting to be romantic with your own husband is not normal!

The artwork of the manga is gorgeous though, which is what the two stars are mainly for to be honest. And all in all, the chapters of this manga are totally fine and pretty entertaining. But I can't really get over the fact that there seems to be an affair brewing between Yua and her step-son. No, thank you.

Yua was a really great main character though. I really loved just how confident she was, but also that she seemed to be really sweet, kind and soft on the inside. I also loved how she stood up for her best friend and didn't let anyone treat her badly.

All in all, ignoring the weird relationships going on, this manga was thoroughly enjoyable and it definitely has a good entertainment factor. The story was actually pretty solid and I found myself genuinely concerned for Yua during the manga. I'm not even that opposed to a teacher-student relationship, if done respectfully and treated well. However, I do just think it's weird that Yua and Sabaru seem to be falling for one another. Forbidden love? Yes, I'm here for it! Cheating on your husband with his son? No thank you.

The artwork was great and flowed well. Before reading it, I was iffy about it, the thought of a student teacher relationship didnt sit well with me. BUT, they did a good job with it.
Yua is a highschool girl whos grandmother dies. Shes been secretly dating her teacher and when he find out, e asks her to marry him. She accepts thinking all will be great, but its not. Sensei has a secret and that secret is that he has a son, who also happens to be Yua classmate! The plot thickens when it develops into a love triangle!
Looking forward to reading the other installments.

I really wanted to like this manga. The art was super cute and the story of a teacher and student in love, but unable to express their love because of their roles, makes the reader think of star-crossed lovers. But I just couldn't like it. The protagonist ends up marrying her teacher and moving into his apartment. Unbeknownst to her, his son is a fellow student in her class and she is often referred to as 'his mom.'
Then there's the slight undertones of incest. The teacher/husband is constantly jealous that she might fall in love with boys her own age and even gives pointed looks to his son to stay away. The first book ends with her sharing a kiss with her 'son.'
It just came across very creepy and I don't think it will do well in Western markets. The art is beautiful but the storyline needs to be entirely different.

I really enjoyed the pacing and scenes of this manga, but did find it a tad predictable. Perhaps that is just because I'm familiar with the common tropes used, but I pretty much knew the situations that were going to occur and wasn't really surprised by the end of the first volume. Still I flew threw this volume and would most likely pick up more to continue the story and see what happens.

The art style and writing was great, easy to understand and with just enough pop to help the reader understand setting and situation. Again, it was fast paced with some well placed humor, which made it an enjoyable read in the end.

Sooooo....confession time. I LOVE Shojo. I love the drama (if it isn't too intense), the love triangles/interests, the beautiful, sweet, innocent yet wise heroine that captures the hearts of all around her, without really realizing it herself, and the strong, silent men who flock to her, but can't tell her how they truly feel.

Sigh.

So this? Yeah, right up my alley.

I was kind of nervous that it might dip into pervy/pedo territory, cuz teacher and student, but the teacher is very respectful and cognizant of the fact that she hasn't graduated yet (less than a year), so no hanky-panky.

The artwork is gorgeous, the story line appropriately drama-filled and I love all of the characters. I really want to see what happens, because that ending was a TAD on the cliffhanger side.

4.5 stars, rounded down because cliffhanger. MORE MONSTER WANTS MORE!!! I would say this is probably for higher middle readers on up. Nothing more than a few kisses here and there, but it is a student married to her teacher. So kind of adult in concept.

I was a little unsure about this particular manga because it has the whole teacher/student thing. I know that is super common in manga but I find it a little questionable especially when the teacher is old enough to have a son the same age as the student. That's kind of...messy. The volume itself was enjoyable but also weird. There is a married couple that does nothing a married couple does. There is a step-mom/son relationship that plays more like a couple dating. There is a father/son dynamic that plays more like siblings. Basically if this is a short manga (4-5) volumes then fine but if this thing is 35...then I'm not sure how long I could stay with it. Some people will absolutely love it...others will be unsettled.

Okay, it's been awhile since I read manga or watched anime. I recall plenty of bizarre and weird things, yet I wasn't quite prepared for this… Oh, Sakurano’s The Lion and the Bride is pretty mundane compared to past experiences. This is the story of Yua, a high school student who crushes on her science teacher. That affection is returned, and when Yua’s last remaining relative-her grandmother- passes unexpectedly, Sensei Takahashi makes a surprising proposal. Namely a marriage proposal. He just forgets to mention one small detail. Aloof Subaru, one of Yua's classmates, is his son!

Takahashi was sweet. He’s a real white knight, with a drive to protect. He also reminded me a lot of Cho Hakkai, from Gensomaden Saiyuki. They have a similar appearance, quiet demeanour, and caretaker personalities. Not surprisingly, Yua was somewhat immature. Granted, she's still a teen, but dang. Subaru, closer to her own age, reminds me of Sanzo, from Gensomaden Saiyuki. He has a certain aloofness that hides a caring, white knight personality similar to his father's, and a broken soul too it seems, but we don't really learn why this volume. The barriers between Yua and Subaru begin to break down, and he begins to feel protective towards her.

Overall, I enjoyed Lion and look forward to the next volume. The title confused me. Where does Lion come from. I did find the age difference disturbing at first. I'm guessing it's a 10 year difference, give it air, and really it only disturbed me because she was in high school. The older people get, the less a gap that big matters. Indeed, both my sister and I have partners considerably older than we.
