Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

A well written book with an interesting plot and a good cast of characters. However I thought it would've been better as a short story than a novel

I like the way in which Lisa Hall writes. Her books always keep me gripped and this one certainly didn't disappoint.

This is an ok modern thriller. The plot was easy to follow and the story did hold my attention until the end.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

I have enjoyed all of Lisa Hall's book so far and this one was no exception. It starts off with a lot of tension as our character, Rachel, wakes up at her neighbour's house with no recollection of the events of the night before. We follow her journey to discovering exactly what transpired, with a few misleading red herrings thrown in so the reader is as much in the dark as Rachel herself.

This book had me engrossed and I was captivated by the story. The tension never seemed to let up and kept me literally on the edge of my seat throughout.

Lisa Hall does not disappoint.

This is the second Lisa Hall book that I have read. It was a quick read which was well written and at times quite creepy. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Imagine waking up in your neighbours house the day after a party feeling battered and bruised and having no recollection of what’s happens to you ! Welcome to The Party or the after party ! I would class this book as a good psychological suspense thriller , the story centring round Rachel and what actually happened to her . Short sharp chapters keep you page turning . Another great book from this fab author .. 4.5 stars

The Party is a complex and twist filled psychological thriller. A woman wakes up in her neighbours spare bedroom after a new year's eve party, unable to remember what happened the night before. Her friends, neighbours and husband will only give her fragments of the truth. .an enjoyable read.

I won’t bore you with the details but the last few weeks have been a bit manic Chez Grab and I fell behind with my reviews. I still managed to grab reading time but now I have a bit of catching up to do.

I have taken the executive decision to do some rapid reviews and aim for two or three titles per post. So without further ado here is a flavour of what I have been reading:

The Party

A story set at New Year but not a party that Rachel will ever forget. She awakes in her friends house with little memory of what occurred the previous night. However Rachel quickly realises that she was raped and cannot identify her attacker.

Lisa Hall builds a cracking, suspense-filled tale around this deeply upsetting incident. Rachel doesn’t know who she can trust and the lack of support she feels she is receiving really isolates her amongst her family and friends. When Rachel begins to fear she may still be in danger that isolation really hits home.

This was the first Lisa Hall novel I have read but I was well aware of her reputation for writing clever and engaging thrillers. The Party did not disappoint and I will add my voice to the ranks of bloggers who strongly recommend reading Lisa’s books.

OMG!!!! I LOVE THIS BOOK, this is a very well written book, Lisa was good at keeping you guessing, while reading I thought I knew who did what but it turned out I didn't, thats what made this a fantastic read. totally gripping book that I read it less than 24 hours as I could not put it down.
This book is a must read!!!!!

In my experience, I have found you can always guarantee shocks and surprises galore in a Lisa Hall book and The Party is no different. The opening chapter guarantees that you will race through this book with your heart in your mouth as Rachel tries to piece together the events from the night before.

Rachel and her husband are invited to a New Year's Eve party at a neighbours house but Rachel wakes up on New Year's Day in a strange bed without her husband and a very bad feeling that something terrible has happened, only she has very little memory of the party. As the days pass, Rachel asks questions of everyone who was there but none of her friends and neighbours have anything to say that will help her and some of them don't even believe her, but Rachel won't stop until she finds out the truth of what happened to her at the party.

I loved the character of Rachel; she is so determined and despite all of the knock-backs she won't give up on her quest for the truth. I think I suspected virtually every single character at one time or another as Lisa Hall has cleverly laid out so many red herrings in the reader's path.

The Party is a Like a game of Cluedo; all of the suspects are laid out in front of you with clues scattered around for you to gather but yet again, I was foiled by Lisa Hall (I bet she is unbeatable at Cluedo).

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Rachel wakes up disoriented after a party, she’s bruised and can’t remember anything, she was attacked but by whom and why is everyone acting so odd.

The police can’t help? Even with bruises? Wtf is that about- so Rachel turns into Miss Marple to find out the truth but talking to everyone who was there. It flits across times frames- confusing and boring the life from you- to the point I flicked to the end to find out who was the naughty one.

Did I care? No
Was I surprised? No
Should you bother with this? No

This was a tricky one for me to review, I was expecting a bit of a better ending and I guessed the culprit about half way through the book. However this was a fairly enjoyable read. The story starts with the main charector Rachel waking up in her neighbours spare bedroom, she is alone and naked from the waist down and can't remember anything from the party the night before to celebrate new year. Rachel begins to investigate herself when the police find lack of evidence to support rachael's account , she talks to all her neighbours and finds that most of them have a few skeleton's in the closet.

A good gripping story with plenty of suspense and mystery well written apart from a few phrases repeated quite a few times throughout the book! Kept me guessing to the last few pages and I didn’t see the ending coming, would recommend!

It's New Years Day and Rachel wakes up in the guest room of a neighbours house after their party. She can't remember anything about the night but realises something bad has happened - the story is about lies, adultery and secrets. It's a quick read and hooks you in although she spent a lot of time feeling sick which started to annoy me!

Just a normal New Years Eve party, but it wasn’t, at least for Rachel who wakes up in her neighbour’s bedroom, realising that things are definitely not right. She discovers that most people at that party had something to hide. Not quite as gripping as I’d expected and even a bit tedious at times. It wasn’t hard to work out whodunnit really. It was hard to feel much sympathy for Rachel as she was rather unpleasant but so were most of the other characters in this story. There was some suspense but not enough to be a book you cannot bear to put down for a second.

Unfortunately, this book was just 'ok'. I felt the storyline was a bit disjointed and didn't flow well at all. The red herrings thrown in also just seemed to get abandoned with no explanation of them. This book just wasn't for me.

A very good book. Lots of twists and turns. I did guess the culprit but it took a while and didn't detract from enjoying the rest of the book.

Enjoyed this. Twisty and turns and just when you thought you knew where it was going you were side swiped. 5/5 on goodreads. Can’t recommend enough.
