It’s a good read and draws you in from the first page. My only negatives are that the plot tailed off mid way through and the characters are underdeveloped. The story itself is original and the ending was very good. Overall, I’d recommend this for anyone who likes psychological thrillers.

From the first page I was drawn into the story. Well written and perfect for winter nights. I would like to read more by this author.

This book kept me guessing and was a real page turner! I am not sure I liked most of the characters, but am thinking that was intentional. Perfect book for Autumn... snuggle up on the sofa and enjoy!

Very clever book full of twists and turns that is very clever at linking the main characters! Very well written with well developed characters!

I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for honest review.

Just could not get into this one. The premise was interesting but they were not able to engage me at all and the characters or what happened to them, and it never really got off the ground. You can skip it.

A good thriller with one of my favourites - an unreliable narrator. This kept my attention for a very long journey. I will look out for more from this author in the future.
Thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for advance electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wow,this author certainly doesn't hang about,no long drawn out background information,it's just Wham, straight into the story with the arrival on Tony and Laura`s doorstep of a mysterious female stranger who insists that they are living in her house. Now most people would just say that is was sad but not their problem and slam the door in her face. But kindly Tony and Laura take the terrified women into their home, cook her a meal and try to find out who their mysterious visitor is but she insists that she has lost her bag and can't remember her identity. Only more than one of these people are lying and the reader swiftly finds themselves plunged into a twisted story of lies, secrets and manipulation that has bony fingers that reach back into the past.

This twisty, gripping thriller is set mainly in and around Swindon,Wiltshire which is about an hour away from where I live and has chapters that alternate between a number of realistic characters, most of whom are unreliable and includes one character who is such a nasty, twisted individual that this person caused me to feel chills and my skin to crawl a number of times throughout the story. My favourite characters were DI Silas Hart and his partner DC Strover and also Luke who used to be a journalist and was investigating his own mystery which may or may not have be connected to the mysterious woman who had suddenly appeared in his small village. It's hard to say much about the mysterious stranger without giving away spoilers so I will just say that she was a brave, gutsy character who I felt very anxious for and was rooting for all the way once her story and the reasons behind her actions were revealed.

I learnt some fascinating information about brains, memory and seahorses whilst reading this well written, enthralling thriller. The story is fast paced, has short, snappy chapters and had me hooked in from the very first page. Very, very good book and highly recommended by little old me.

Thanks to Netgalley for my ecopy of this book.

I have not come across this author before but I will definitely look out for more of his work..

This was a compelling and extremely creepy novel that takes the reader where I at least certainly didn't expect to be going. One has to wonder where JS Monroe got the idea for this plot!!

A number of the characters could have done with a bit more detail as could the marriage of Tony and Laura which seemed to disintegrate for no apparent reason unless Laura knew more than she was letting on. Thinking about it she probably did as most of the characters seemed to know more about something which they were reluctant to acknowledge.

Set in Wiltshire it was obvious that Monroe shares a lot of the prejudice against Swindon as we residents do, either that or his research was very thorough.

If you like your mysteries compelling and grisly this is a book for you.

I enjoyed this book on the whole. The main characters were quite unreliable and unpredictable. Although there was a good story i did feel that the characters were underdeveloped slightly and the ending felt rushed - that being said I enjoyed the book and would read from this author again.

I thought this was brilliant,I love books that have loads going on and have me thinking .I also liked the main character even though I suspected there was more to her than we were being told. The main police officers were interesting as well, and I liked the atmosphere that was created with this book.I thought the writing was very clever and it kept me guessing right until the end.I liked the sound of this book so much that I bumped it up my reading list , I wish I hadn't done that now as I would love to start again and read it for the first time.I thought it was a cracker. Thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for an ARC.

I love any story with unreliable narrators. I think it is always very gripping to read and not being sure what really happened.
I liked this novel but I did find it a bit lacking and just not really reaching it's full potential.

A good novel. There are some big twists and it certainly doesn't go the way you expect it to, which is great. You are able to doubt everybody that comes into contact. I love novels set in small villages, as I think there's so much potential with the "everybody knows everybody" atmosphere. I actually live in Wiltshire, where this novel is set, too, so I think this was executed quite well. On some of the more serious matters, it is clear the author did a lot of research to get things right.

My main criticism is there are a lot of story lines for a lot of characters. I felt I didn't get to spend enough time with any ''one' character to give me a real connection, and I love to feel a connection to characters when I'm reading.

That said, for those who like twisty tales with unreliable narrators, I would recommend and imagine many will enjoy this book. Thanks for my copy!

I found this a little predictable. It was still good though. I really like unreliable narrators.
I’d read something else from this author for sure
