This novel has all the makings of a brilliant Young Adult novel! An intriguing plot & an instantly loveable main character. Everyone thinks Sal Singh killed Andie Bell, her body was never found and Sal killed himself so cannot defend himself or be tried in a court of law. Pippa, thinks Sal is innocent and sets out to uncover facts that will lead to reasonable doubt Sal's guilt. Like Pippa, I'm not so sure everyone is right... I'm itching to find out what really happened, I'm gripped!! Please don't make me wait till May 2019 to read the rest!! |
I absolutely cannot wait for this book to be released! A Good Girls Guide to Murder is set up fantastically, part narrative, part school report where main character Pip talks to us directly about her findings and theories giving the reader a real sense of closeness and inclusion into what’s happening and where Pips train of thought is going. Not only is the format well chosen but even the writing style feels spot on and drips with mystery and unanswered questions. Holly is very good at feeding us just the right amount of information so that it feels like we a good level of understanding without being bogged down with too many uninteresting info dumps. What I like most about what I’ve read so far is just how untrustworthy everyone feels at one point or another as things change and different pieces of information and evidence comes to light, I think I’ve suspected almost everyone at least once. That is why I would describe A Good Girls Guide to Murder as a brilliantly realised, deliciously tense tale of whodunnit wrapped in danger and betrayal. |
I would like to thank both NetGalley and Egmount Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read a sampler of the book ‘A Good Girls Guide to Murder’ in exchange for my honest unbiased review. Two words...I’m hooked!! As I was reading I was gutted that this was a sampler. Holly Jackson has done a fantastic job of getting the reader engaged into the story right from the first page. As I was reading I was hungry for more. It’s going to be a long few months until May 2019 when the book is released but it will be worth the wait. |

Really enjoyed this sampler was addictive from the very beginning. The only complaint I have was that it was not the full book! I need to know what happens next!! |
This book sounds so good! And I'm super excited to read more of it. It grabs you, feeds you little bit of information and gives you a bit of a shock factor. An interesting taking on crime fiction. |
omg loved the sampler just wish it was not so far away from being out ..... looking forward to reading the rest now .... hate not knowing what happens where is the body who killed who what happened next aghhhh !!! |
Packed with intrigue, this had me on the edge of my seat until the very last word. And now I will drive myself wondering what happens next until this baby is released! 100% will buy! |
Agh, I didn't realise this was a sampler and now I'm DESPERATE to read more! Glad to have had this snippet at least, consider my appetite whetted. |
I hadn't realised that this was a sampler when I requested it (teach me to read properly!), but now I'm definitely interested in reading the whole book. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder focuses on Pippa who is doing her EPQ (Extended Project Qualification - this took me right back to when I did mine, complete with all the same forms!) on the murder of school girl Andie Bell, that happened five years ago. Everyone thinks that Sal Singh did it. But Pippa isn't so sure and she wants to use her project to argue in Sal's defence. The writing was smooth and engaging, the characters well-written and the plot was compelling. |
I received a copy of a sample of this upcoming novel by Holly Jackson from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I wasn't quite sure what this sample was going to entail upon request but I can happily say that this snippet is brilliant. The story is told from the perspective of an adolescent girl who investigates the case of missing teenager Andie Bell five years prior and was never solved. Jackson should be praised for her winning combination of research, structure and overall upbeat tone despite the subject matter explored. The only issue I found is that I struggled to discover who Pippa the narrator is as a character and what her true motives are for investigating the disappearance of Andie other than finding out the truth. I felt like Pippa needed a bit more intrigue to behind her thought process. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the sample provided and look forward to the full release of this YA novel in May 2019 where hopefully I get to understand Pippa better. |
Thank you, really enjoyed this sampler! I like the premise, Pippa's narration - including a couple of funny moments - and its unique set-up. It is a bold and original idea to have a student doing her A-level project on such a shocking chain of event - in the vein of a YA Serial or Making a Murderer. I liked Holly Jackson's writing style and am really keen to read more from Pippa and to see what comes next for her, Andie and Sal. |
It was a very intriguing sampler that left me wanting more! And I can't really wait until May, it's too long :( |
I saw a lot about this book whilst I was at YALC but didn't manage to grab an ARC - but I still jumped at the chance to read the sampler when it became available on here. This book sounds like it's going to be simply amazing. I'm getting One of Us is Lying vibes - a YA/ Teen mystery and from the short extract I read, this is going to be a book that keeps us guessing. Rather than an open case, this one is very much closed, but one student doesn't believe the "murderer" really did it. I like the vibe I get from the main character, Pippa, she seems like she will be strong, brave, and inquisitive. I particularly like that she is both interested enough, and brave enough, to be digging into this mystery for a school project - dangerous territory if you want a good grade. The sampler was just too short and I need to know more! I can't wait until this is released. Only 9 months to go... |
WHY IS THIS BOOK'S RELEASE SO FAR AWAY? A Good Girls Guide to Murder was one of the coveted ARCs at YALC this year and having read this sampler, I can see why! I very much wish I'd been able to snag one myself now. This little glimpse into the story was intriguing, funny and got me hooked. The writing is well written and engaging and the format is definitely interesting. I love books that have unusual layouts or formats and I think it works great for how the story is told. I already like our MC, Pippa who is also our POV. There's something about a girl trying to disprove a murder suspect for a school project that is appealing somehow! This is a short glimpse into Pippa's quest to #FindAndie and it was more than enough to make sure this book is high on my want list for 2019. |

An awesome start to a premise that turns the EPQ into a glamorous, intriguing murder mystery. Definitely one to read when it's published! |
I am looking forward to read the book itself, a very intriguing sampler, leaving me a desire to read it! Can't wait for the book itself! |
What a great start. My only disappointment was it was only a sample and not the whole book. Can’t wait to read the book and find out the answer to all my questions. Did Sal do it? Is she even dead? Can a teenage girl find out things police have missed? |
Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC sampler in exchange for an honest review. This has an intense and interesting plot, a really immersive narrative, and a personable protagonist. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder has some serious potential. 📖😍 |
Oh my goodness! I need to know what happened to Andie and Sal!!! What was in the text to Sals dad? Does Pip find out the truth?!? I NEED TO READ THE REST OF THIS BOOK!!!!!! |
Pippa Fitz-Amobi has to do a project for school and she chooses to investigate the murder of local girl Andi Bell. Andi was killed five years ago and everyone thinks that it was Sal Singh that commited the crime. After reading the sampler I'm really intrigued to see what happens next. I liked the writing style and felt that the author did a good job in laying foundations and hooking my attention and interest. I want to find out more about Pippa and what secrets she uncovers in her investigations. I'm definitely planning to pick up a finished copy of this book. |
