Unspeakable is the fourth, fabulous instalment in high-octane Deadly Secrets series. It's a standalone too.

The past is also the present in the life of Russell 'Rusty' McClane. He may be on the straight and narrow after going against his adopted parents' wishes but he's proved them wrong and they in return are really proud of what he's achieved. Still, he has secrets he's keeping from them and his other adopted siblings simply because they don't need to know this aspect of his life, until Portland PD officers turn up at his parents' house looking for him; They want to question him in regards to a missing woman...one he was the last to see.

When Legal Investigator Harper Blake meets Russell McClane her reaction flags him as a bad boy but there's something about him which she finds attractive...not a good sign. Her job is to find evidence to defend him from allegations the police department is trying to pin on him only she uncovers far more than anticipated.

The sparks of attraction between the protagonists are visible right from their first meeting but the opinions they hold for each other are the opposite. Yet with every interaction, they are drawn together despite not wanting to admit these feelings, either to themselves or each other.

The fast-paced narrative kept me focused and enthralled reading this page-turner. As I've previously read one of the other books in the series, I enjoyed catching up on the others in the McClane clan too. As heroes go, I have a weakness for flawed characters and Rusty fits this description perfectly, something he would agree himself as he's never fitted into the family like the others. However, it is satisfying in the end when his secrets are revealed and he finally accepts the past and realises he is a worthy and respected member of the family.

The writing is engaging with an original narrative. For those who have read any or all the previous three books will recognise links that tie the four adopted siblings together in a unique way. All the books are standalone with the author incorporating the connections without the reading feeling as if they are missing any details. Of course, you'll want to read the other books, simply because who doesn't love a romantic suspense with well-developed characters and an intriguing storyline?

In the fourth book of the Deadly Secrets series featuring the McClane siblings, Rusty and Harper heat up the pages amid a twisting, turning plot involving political corruption and innocent young women being placed into unspeakable situations.

Rusty has always felt like the odd man out in his adoptive family but it is a self-imposed feeling rather than reality. His parents, brother and sister all love him without question, but Rusty can't let go of his past and the stepsister who disappeared at the hands of his stepfather when they were teenagers. He later found out that she was sold off to a human trafficking ring and he has dedicated his life to helping others in her situation since he couldn't help her.

Harper is a disgraced cop who is now a private investigator, and she doesn't know whether she should believe the best or the worst about Rusty. She has been burned by men she thought she could trust before which led to the bogus charges that got her kicked off the force, and this McClane brother screams danger to her. But after a few encounters and Rusty stepping into save her life despite the fact she could potentially send him jail, Harper gives into the attraction and helps him in his quest.

Ms. Naughton spins a wonderful tale of intrigue and suspense with some well placed twists and revelations that I didn't see coming- particularly when it comes to Rusty and Harper's families and background. I have to admit the connection between the characters took a longer time to develop for me and was a secondary interest to me in this particular story.

All the Deadly Secrets stories can be read as standalones, and while this one was probably my least favorite of the four, it was still a great read overall.

Title: Unspeakable by Elisabeth Naughton
Series: Deadly Secrets #4

4.5 Stars - I’ll be honest, I was a bit nervous to read this book after reading her House of Sin series (because those are just not my thing) and with Rusty having a “dark past” I was super worried this was going to follow in the same path. I was wrong! This book is written like all the Naughton books I’ve loved before. Her suspense was good, seeing the family from the previous books was nice and Rusty himself, felt real. He wasn’t an over the top alpha that drove you crazy with possessiveness. He was a perfect balance. Harper’s character fit with him easily. The two had great chemistry and the story progressed well. I am glad I read this book.

Unspeakable is the fourth book in the Deadly Secrets series and it is centered on Rusty McClane and Harper Blake, but the rest of the charming family make appearances and dive into the fray when the time comes for action. This book is chock full of constant intrigue, danger and suspense that makes it especially hard to put down. There is so much excitement and activity in this story you just want to keep reading until the end. It will definitely keep you on your toes and guessing as to the outcome characters. This book contains a bold, daring storyline with strong, determined characters that are intricately woven together to create a pulse-pounding, heart-stopping read full of surprises.

Rusty’s story is heartbreaking; he had such a tragic childhood and is still haunted by the demons of his past. He is using his pain, anger and loss to secretly fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. He is hoping in some way that his deeds will help elevate his conscious and ease his guilt from his perceived failure in his youth. Up front, he presents a bad boy persona but hidden in the shadows he is seen secretly as a white knight, with a few kinks in his armor. He is a complicated character who holds strong to his beliefs and is loyal and determined to do the right thing no matter the consequences. Even when he is accused of a young girl’s disappearance, he still stays on his mission to help those he can. However, in the end, will what he is doing truly be enough to make a difference? When unforeseen circumstances collide with his agenda and a shocking twist occurs will this be the end of his fight, maybe even his life?

Harper Blake is a strong, tough as nails lady that takes life as it comes. She was falsely accused of sexual harassment on the force and now works as a legal investigator. Not the job she wants to have but a job she no less puts herself all in for. Once she gets invested in a case and digging for information she will not stop until she gets to the truth. This determination lands her in a heap of trouble when she starts digging into the extracurricular activities of her newest client, Rusty McClane. Needing to prove the allegations against him true or false, she gets a lot more than she anticipated when walks into his world. She immediately discovers her instincts were correct and there is more to this strong, sexy, mysterious man than meets the eye. On her quest to find the truth she thinks partnering up with him on his mission will be a boon for her too, her opportunity to get back on the force. The more involved she and Rusty become, the more her emotions get involved and she realizes what she truly has to lose. She has secrets of her own and if they come out before she is ready it could be the end of a good thing before it has a chance to truly begin.

Rusty and Harper make a dynamic couple; they balance each other well. My favorite thing about this story is the connection they share. They have a tight bond and I loved seeing their growing faith and trust in each other, never giving up, and their willingness to work through tragedy for their happy ending.

Unspeakable is a wonderfully well-written story of betrayal, healing, love and family. It is a fast-paced story that will hold you on the edge-of-your-seat until the very end. I gotta say, I believe this one is my favorite of the series. Well worth the read.

Elisabeth Naughton has packed tons of action and suspense in Unspeakable, book #4 in her Deadly Secrets series. I just could not put down this book. The plot is well-defined and is a roller coaster of thrills and suspense. The main characters, Rusty McClane and Harper Blake are compelling as they race to untangle lies and dangerous secrets. There are some big surprises at the end. Didn't see any of that coming.

This is now my favorite book in the series. A definite page-turner!

This was another fantastic book in the Deadly Secrets series. I love the McClane family of adopted siblings. Rusty was always the more stoic of his siblings. His past left him scarred both physically and emotionally but also inspired some interesting but dangerous extracurricular activities. Harper's recent past hasn't been pretty either. It's left her unwilling to trust. When her job brings her in contact with Rusty, no way does she believe he isn't up to no good. She determines to discover just what he is really doing which ends up putting them both in danger.

The plot moved quickly; the chemistry was smoking, and I loved the characters. There were plenty of suspenseful moments to help me get my danger fix and a poignant ending I really loved. The peripheral characters were also well written. I'm hoping Brooklyn gets a story.

Thanks go to Net Galley for the ARC.

UNSPEAKABLE (DEADLY SECRETS BOOK 4) By Elizabeth Naughton
Unspeakable is the 4th story in the Deadly Secrets saga. You do not have to have read the prior books however. Elizabeth Naughton can always be counted on to bring a great addictive story and this is no exception! She always brings us well developed characters and strong story lines that twist and you never know where things are going. This one kept me up very late reading.
This is the story of Russell “Rusty” McClane and legal investigator Harper Blake. Her job is to help his attorney investigate what has actually happened. They meet when he is being investigated in the disappearance of a girl. This story brings us intrigue, sex trafficking, disappearing girls, murder, prostitution, and kidnapping. That is not all either! There is much more to Rusty than meets the eye. Harper is not sure what is going on but she is very dedicated to finding out what is going on.
I really enjoyed this book, I definitely give it 5 stars.

I just could not get into this book! That's really what it came down to for me. I think it was probably the lack of interaction between the main characters initially, and the bouncing between viewpoints. I actually found myself way more interested in the hero than the heroine, and honestly would have kept reading this book if I knew that a romance wasn't in the cards. He just seemed more exciting to me, though I did think that Harper's background was intriguing. Her personality though was off for me, especially with her being attracted to bad boys, even when said bad boy may be a serial killer. Girl has some problems.

But honestly, when I am able to let a book sit for months, because I don't have the enthusiasm to pick it back up, that's the sign that this book is not for me. Majority of the reviews are good, so this is not reflective of the book's quality. It's just one of those things that happens from time to time. Filing under "not a good fit for me" and moving on.

Unspeakable is the fourth book in the Deadly Secrets series by the author. Unspeakable can be read as a standalone.

The protagonists are Russell (Rusty) McClane and Harper Blake. Rusty is portrayed as the black sheep of his family; he is the owner of a winery by day, and by night, he is a 'Robin Hood' of a different kind. One day, cops show up on his family's doorstep and question him on the whereabouts of a young girl, who was last seen with Rusty.
Harper Blake is a former, disgraced cop. She meets Rusty at her job as a Private Investigator for an attorney. Hearing about Rusty's case, Harper's suspicions rouse. However, as Harper investigates further, things are not as it seems with Rusty. Soon, they end up fighting a bigger enemy than they imagined.

I liked the plot, and the writing was fast and good. What I didn't like were Rusty and Harper's characters. I couldn't relate to them at all. I don't mind reading sex scenes in Mystery/Thriller books, but there seemed to be an unnecessary amount of them present in Unspeakable. I hoped to have chills reading this book. It had the setup for it, but it failed to do anything but bore me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received this ARC for an honest review. This is the perfect ending to Elisabeth Naughton’s “Deadly Secrets Series”. This book is about Rusty McClane, who owns an winery by day, but has a very different life at night. (Not going to tell. You must read the book😉) During a family party, Rusty’s night life came crashing down in him. He is getting investigated for possible kidnapping. His lawyer has a private investigator named Harper, and she is highered to look into Rusty’s case. Harper’s first impression is not a positive one and she suppects he might be guilty. As Harper investigates, she realizes there is much more to this case and Rusty than she originally expected. I am not going to give details, because YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! It can be read without reading the other books because Elisabeth Naughton gives enough of the back story so you are not lost, but I recommend to also read the other books in this series. Harper and Rusty’s chemistry is amazing. You get lost in the story. I really enjoyed this story.

Full circle. Words that will so come to mean so much after this reading this book. The main characters in this 4th book in a series (can be read as a standalone) are Rusty and Harper. Rusty is searching and trying to atone for sins of the past and Harper is trying to right a wrong of the past. Their paths intersect in an interesting plot twist. The story is well written and fast paced and comes to a very satisfying conclusion.

This story was a great installment in the Deadly Secrets series of books. This novel focused on the story of Rusty who like the other brothers was adopted by wonderful parents after early life trauma. At first glimpse, Dusty is painted as the black sheep who might not be as genuinely "good" as his brothers. He appears to be linked to the disappearance of a young girl.. Rusty's family hires a lawyer to help him and that lawyer has a P.I. Harper who begins to investigate the case. Harper's back story is that she was previously a cop who was wrongly accused of sexually harassing her partner. The novel takes some great twists and turns and is definitely steamy. My only criticism is that after seeming to instantly dislike each other, Harper and Dusty suddenly are consumed by each other. The romance needed a bit more build up however, if you enjoyed the other books in this series, you will not be disappointed.

A man nicknamed Robin Hood has a dark secret, and private investigator Harper, drawn to bad boys, can't help being attracted to him. Eventually they stumble through dangerous adventures to solve a crime.

A romance suspense with interesting if not somewhat unbelievable characters.

What can I say about this book that other reviewers haven't said already? Probably not much. But let me give it a go.

This is the second book that I have read in this series, and although they are linked by the familial connection, they both feel completely different. The writing is consistently strong and the characters are wonderfully three dimensional.

But the thing that made me enjoy this so much is the connection that the writer is able to make, not only between the characters within the confines of the plot, but also with the reader. I found myself drawn in, once again, to both the story arc and the relationship, neither of which took a back seat to the other.

Truly enjoyable story telling.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Unspeakable is the fourth installment in the Deadly Secrets series. I have read and enjoyed this series from the beginning. Ms. Naughton certainly has a way with both the romance and the suspense of this genre and provides us with some great reads. I'm wondering if there will be more in this series, although by what I've read it looks like this is the end of the line.

Many thanks to Montlake Romance for the ARC delivered through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

So, I normally love Elisabeth Naughton's books. She's a great writer and I have enjoyed many of her books. With this book however, I had a difficult time turning the pages. The writing is good--no complaints there, but for some reason the characters weren't relatable. Neither the H or h was memorable and I would forget what I had read previously and would have to review. This normally doesn't happen. I think the plot just didn't resonate with me. I guess this one just wasn't for me.

This is the newest book in the Deadly Secrets Series. I have really liked this series and it was nice to get to see the characters again. I really like her characters and this story line. This book had lots of twist and turns that I was not expecting. But at times it is hard to deal with the real facts about child abuse and sex trafficking even though we know that it happens every day
