Naughton is a superb writer and her thrillers are always filled with the elements that make a thriller great. This is no exception. Harper is investigating Rusty, who is the accused. This is a story about sex trafficking, and those details are hard to take.

Unspeakable is a stand-alone continuation of the series. I think that anyone could jump right in and feel comfortable with the background knowledge needed for the story.

Rusty McClane was adopted when he was 13 years old. He is still trying to overcome demons from his past. Police show up at a family BBQ to question him about a young girl who has gone missing from a strip club. Multiple young girls have disappeared from strip clubs across the city. Harper Lake, ex police detective, is tasked with looking into Rusty by his lawyer. Harper isn’t sure whether he is innocent or not, but is attracted to him.

This is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. There is drama, danger and romance in this book. There are a few twists and turns too. One I didn’t expect. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book.

This was another great book in the Deadly Secrets Series. Elisabeth Naughton is one of my favorite authors, I like keeping up with the family members in this series. Elisabeth does a wonderful job of telling their story and creating a need for the next book without being disappointed for the wait until the next one comes out. The characters are relatable, which I appreciate very much. I may not always like them, but I can relate to them.

As always, I can't wait until the next book.

Unspeakable is the fourth book in Deadly Secrets by Elisabeth Naughton. This is the first book I have read in this series. You could read it as a stand alone. I will be going back and starting at the beginning so I know who all of the side characters are, lol.

It starts off with Russell “Rusty” McClane getting questioned by the police at a family function, about a working girl who’s gone missing. His family hires an attorney, Andrew “Andy” Renwick to represent him. Andy has a legal investigator, Harper Blake, who looks into the goings on of the accused. With Rusty in the middle of kidnapping and sex trafficking of young girls ordeal, Harper has to decide whether to trust Rusty or to turn him into the police that betrayed her years ago.

This book kept me craving more and more; with twists that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what’s going to happen next. I give this book a 4.35 stars!

I have only read one other book in this series, and I am thrilled to say this can be read as a stand alone with no issues, but you will enjoy the series in its entirety. I received this arc from Net Galley, thank you Montlake and the author. The book starts with Rusty and had me shaking my head, no no no no. It had to be misleading, Rusty couldn't be involved. The premise is sadly all to real in the world today and Elisabeth Naughton brought it to the fore front. Kudos. I didn't need the pages and pages of detailed intimate sex when Rusty and Harper went at it but hey, that's me. Although I felt some of the pages of sex could have been left out and the plot carried on as it seemed to wrap awfully quick, as if running out of time. I loved the way the author brought the story full circle with Rusty, his previous life and Harper. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys suspense!

Book 4 of the McClane siblings revolve around abducting girls for sex trafficking and black market organs. Harper and Rusty find themselves in the thick of things with this installment. Each having different goals to bring down the Plague. This was a fast paced page turner, with the dead not staying buried. ARC provided by author and Netgalley for a honest review.

Unspeakable – Elisabeth Naughton

I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.

Russell ‘Rusty’ McClane considers himself to be a black sheep of sorts – adopted into his family as a teenager, he has ties to the past that will not let him go, and they continue to impact him now. Owner and proprietor of The Black Sheep Winery by day, by night he’s undertaking much more dangerous activities in hopes of making amends. Then the police show up at the door, investigating the disappearance of a young woman, that was last seen with Rusty.

Harper Blake is a disgraced cop. Wrongly accused of sexual harassment by a trusted partner, she now works as a private investigator for defense attorney Andrew Renwick. She is asked to assess the missing woman case and Rusty McClane’s possible involvement in her disappearance, in preparation for his arrest. But when she meets Rusty, the attraction is undeniable, even though she senses that he knows more than he’s sharing. As she investigates further, she learns of the Plague, and Rusty’s involvement in something big…but what?

This book combines complex, likable characters with edge of your seat suspense, along with very steamy sex to create an un-put-downable story! Easily read as a standalone, the fact that it is the fourth in a series is a huge bonus for me! I WILL be reading them all. I am amazed that I haven’t discovered Elisabeth Naughton before this! If I could give it 6 stars, I would! Fantastic!!

Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read this book. Having read the three other books in the series I can only say wow, fantastic read. Each book in the series dealt with an adopted member of the McClane family with book 4 dealing with its oldest member Rusty, who was trying unbeknown to his family to save endangered runaways who fell into the path of the Plague. Being a person of interest in the disappearance of a minor Rusty crosses paths with Harper a legal investigator hired to prove his innocence, which sets them on an a collision course with the Plague. Filled with danger, suspense and numerous twists and turns this book is a page turner and an ending bombshell, thoroughly enjoyable.

This book was AMAZING! One of those where you squeeze a page or two in every single chance you get. Even though this is Book 4 in the series and characters in the other stories do appear, this book stands perfectly fine on its own.

It kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire ride and the author threw in a lot of unexpected twists. I loved both Rusty and Harper's characters. Great chemistry between the two.

There was one part that "hopefully" was setting us up for Thomas' story eventually but I guess we'll have to wait and see!

2,5 stars.

I was excited to get a chance to read a book by this new-to-me author. Sadly, as you can see by my rating, this book didn’t work for me. Based on the amount of raving ratings, clearly my experience with this book is a case of “it’s not the book, it’s me”.

I liked the premise, and I saw potential in the pairing of the two leads. But after the first pages, the book just didn’t grab me as I’d hoped it would.

For me it went wrong in the execution, and mainly with too much hinging on chance, telling instead of showing, and (at least to me) unbelievable and too-far-fetched choices by the leads. A few examples: The heroine manages to enter a highly guarded location used by a syndicate crime organization by picking a simple lock, after apparently having navigated a tunnel-system for which a friend of her provided the maps... but it was all almost a spur of the moment decision to go there. The hero needed a date, but didn’t ask the heroine although he wanted to, but instead asked a prostitute he met on the street, even taking her shopping beforehand. The romance was mostly lust-based; the couple doesn’t even exchange a single sentence untill almost halfway through the book, but do start kissing in public the first time they’re not getting shot at.

I think the book would have been better if the search had been for one girl, with a direct personal connection, instead of it being a Robin-hood quest against a big syndicate that to me quickly became too unrealistic. I would also have loved to see the hero and heroine actually talking earlier in the book, instead of the lust and sex-scenes.

I will give this author the benefit of the doubt and read another book by her if I’m given a choice.

I love this women’s writing. This series is captivating and has you drawn in from page one. Just when you think you have it all figured out—-you don’t. I am so happy that Rusty got his HEA. Always brooding and never smiling, He leads a life his family will never understand. So to finally learn who he is and what makes him tick was so worthwhile. This may be the best of the series for me.

Holy Guacamole!! This book has all of the twists and turns you could ever want in a murder mystery, corruption, greed, evilness, plus a very sexy hero and beautiful, smart heroine who eventually find themselves working together to put the puzzle together, falling in love but trying not to let each other know. This romantic, mystery love story is a page turning, stay up all night to finish book.

Unspeakable is the 4th book in the Deadly Secrets series. Readers have gotten brief glimpses of Russell "Rusty" McClane from previous books and as with the other McClane boys, he's a bit of a "troubled" man. Harper Blake is a disgraced ex-cop who is trying to put her life back together after a scandal and her father's death changed her world. She's a PI who doesn't necessarily hate her job, but also doesn't get the same thrill as when she was a cop.
When Rusty is accused in a missing person's case, it's Harper's job to find the evidence, but what she uncovers is much worse than she expected.

There were several twists in this story that kept me hungry for the next chapter. Just when I thought I had figured out what was going to happen, bam, new twist. The first part of the book really sets up the story line, but half way through,, everything starts happening at a fast paced. Once Harper and Rusty start working together and the chemistry really starts flowing, the story takes off. I will say, the revelation at the end brought out the tissues.

ARC received from NetGalley for an honest review.

Russell “Rusty” McClane is the adopted son of two doctors. He considers himself the family’s black sheep due to his inability to let go of his past. When the authorities suspect him in an underage girl’s disappearance, Rusty tries to keep his nocturnal activities from his family members. If that’s not enough, his lawyer’s legal investigator sticks her nose in Rusty’s business next. He finds himself working alongside the sexy yet assertive woman to bring down The Plague. Can Rusty let go of his troubled past for good? Or will The Plague destroy him?
Harper Blake works as a litigation investigator for a lawyer firm. She is assigned to the McClane case. Harper intends to ferret out everything Rusty knows about the missing girl. However, her investigation takes an unexpected turn when she uncovers the brooding man’s extracurricular activities. Harper believes Rusty may be her ticket back on the Portland Police Department. She first needs to convince him to help expose The Plague’s masterminds. Can Harper and Rusty bring down The Plague? Or will they become another victim?
Rusty is a tormented knight in tarnished armor. I empathize with Rusty’s anguish over not being able to move beyond his tormented past. He wants to, yet he has yet to find the right incentive until Harper. I like how her presence helps Rusty realize he cannot continue with his reckless endeavors. But what I love about Rusty is how unthreatened he is by Blake’s assertive nature. He respects and admires that aspect about her, even though it scares him on occasion.
Harper is no stranger to the hardships a woman faces in a male-dominated profession. I admire how she endured the chauvinism and made the best out of a career-ending situation. She refused to let it destroy her sense of self. But what I adore about Harper is her ability to stand her ground against Rusty. She remains there for him despite his cankerous objections, not allowing him to wallow in his dark emotions alone.
UNSPEAKABLE is book four in Elisabeth Naughton’s romantic-suspense series, DEADLY SECRETS. The story can stand alone; however, to understand the McClane family dynamics, it is better to read the three prior books. I like how couples from the previous books make intermittent appearances throughout the story.
UNSPEAKABLE is suspenseful tale of two emotionally-wounded people discovering they are worthy of love. I wonder if the author plans to write a story for Thomas McClane. I hope this is not the end of the McClanes because I love the family’s sense of solidarity. They remain a solid unit no matter what roadblocks fate throws their way. Elisabeth Naughton’s ability to write such in-depth familial bonds instills faith that family values still exist.

4 1/2 stars out of 5
This is the second in the Deadly Secret series I have read by Elisabeth Naughton. This can be read as a stand alone novel but I think readers will enjoy it more if they read the entire series.

Rusty is a broken alpha male who is trying to right the wrongs while Harper is trying to find out who is killing young girls.

The story is well paced until the sex starts and the story stalls out having readers flip though endless sex scenes that are "mind blowing" to find the story again. When the story is found readers will be hooked once again but soon sex and romance takes over until the last 80% of the book where if you put it down for a second you will be wondering what is happening to the heroes of the story.

The ending is a little cheesy for my taste when it comes to romantic suspense stories. With that being said if this is the end of the Deadly Secrets series the author put the perfect finishing touches.

Thank you to Netgalley, The author and publisher Montlake Romance for the advance copy of Elisabeth Naughton Unspeakable

Unspeakable is an excellent well crafted romantic thriller, plenty of action with 2 Great leading characters and a host of others, good and downright evil.
Rusty McClane is building a winery but due to his past is also working behind the scenes as a vigilante trying to save young girls being abducted and then used as sex slaves and in some cases even worse. He has been implicated in a missing person investigation as he was one of the last persons seen with this girl.
Harper is an ex cop due to lies told about her by so called colleagues, now working as an investigator for the firm defending Rusty. On first impressions Rusty pegs her as a man hater and Harper is unsure of his innocence.
It soon becomes clear that both are completely wrong about each other and as the suspense and intrigue becomes more intense their sexual chemistry jumps off the pages.
A brilliant read, thoroughly enjoyable with a finale that is as well thought out as it is extremely satisfying.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book.

This is the 4th in the Deadly Secrets series. Each can be read as standalones. Indeed, its the first in the series for me and I was not disappointed. I have just bought the other three books which feature the other McClane children.

The story centres on Harper an ex cop, working as an investigator after she was forced to resign following false sexual harassment charges. She is given the job to investigate Rusty McClane who is building a winery but has been implicated in a missing persons case. Together they enter into the murky world of sex trafficking and organ harvesting.

I couldn’t put this book down. It is full of suspense, intrigue and sexual chemistry. A masterpiece in storytelling.

I received this ARC for an honest review.
