Another pressure cooking book. I have to admit that as much as I love my Instant Pot, I'm getting tired of seeing the same recipes rehashed. I also found the down home voice of This Old Gal at odds with her life story and living in California. It all came together to be rather unappealing. The recipes look okay, but nothing inspiring or different from a million other options already out there.

I am always looking for new recipes for my Instant Pot and this cookbook offers a variety to choose from. I am definitely going to try some of the Cuban and Jewish recipes. My only complaint is that some of the recipes have a long list of ingredients. One of the best pressure cooker cookbooks I have seen.

I can't be the only person who put a pressure cooker on their wedding registry, unwrapped it, and then sentenced it to solitary confinement in some dark, forgotten corner.

It's time to pull it back out and make some tasty food. I enjoyed the author's introduction on how this contraption works, and the recipes were varied in their complexity. (I may hold off a bit on the more complicated ones!)

With the growing popularity of electric pressure cookers, it's great to have a solid recipe book for them. I've been looking forward to this after following Jill's site and FB page for some time. Having these recipes in one resource is helpful and gives some ideas for recipes I might have missed. I'd recommend this for anyone who has a pressure cooker and wants to get more out of it.

I don't know about you but a pressure cooker can be an intimidating kitchen tool. I actually received one for my wedding 3 years ago, but never pulled it out of the box. This book gives great detailed instructions on how the pressure cooker works and tips on how to make the food come out perfect every time. Along with that there is a lot of wonderful recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Excellent cookbook with mostly main dish items to make in your Instant Pot or pressure cooker. The recipes look delicious and include chapters on specific kinds of ethnic cooking you don't see often in mainstream cookbooks, such as Indian.

I also liked that the small but nice selection of appetizers was the second to last chapter, allowing me to get to the meat of the book immediately.

I was given the chance to review this book by the publisher. I have used this old gal's recipes before with my pressure cooker.

This book is great for those who are new to pressure cooking or for those who are 'old hands'. The recipes are great, well written and also have space to write your own notes. I don't like recipes which are too difficult but as with most pressure cooker recipes they are quite simple. There's a good mix of recipes in this book, breakfast, main courses and dessert.
I would highly recommend this book.

Author Jill Selkowitz, creator of the This Old Gal blog and Facebook group, has cooked up some of her best recipes to share in her cookbook This Old Gal's Pressure Cooker Cookbook. Selkowitz says in her cookbook she wants to demystify homecooking and she wants people to realize how using a pressure cooker can add tremendous value to their busy lives.

What I like most about her cookbook is the wide variety of updated recipes that go beyond the typical pressure cooker recipes often found. I've been using a pressure cooker for close to 30 years and I do love making Porcupine Meatballs or cooking a pot roast in my pressure cooker. Sometimes though I tire of some of the older recipes and was delighted find pleny of updated recipes that should add zip to my meals. I look forward to trying some of the recipes in her cookbook as I am sure they will tingle my palate.

Some of the recipes you'll find in her cookbook include:

Taiwanese Three-Cup Chicken
Low-Country Pulled Pork
Drive-Thru Tacos
Barbecue Meatballs
Cabbage and Sausage
Chicken Taco Bowls
Matar Paneer
Hard-Boiled Eggs
Yogurt and Greek-Style Yogurt

You will also find a section called Seasonings, Sauces, and More. Here you will find make-your-own recipes such as:

TOG House Seasoning
Taco Seasoning

Overall, I love how her cookbook and I look forward to cooking up many varied and delicous recipes thanks to her cookbook.

I have constantly seen people recommend This Old Gal's website on the Instant Pot Facebook group I am in. Everyone raves that she is one of the best sites to go to for your Instant Pot recipe needs. I had NO IDEA that she had a cookbook coming out - so of course I had to check it out.

While I do love my IP and use it quite often, I would definitely say that I am NOT a pro - though I am getting better each and every day that I use it. I rave about the IP and try to get all my friends and family to purchase one. As soon as someone gets one (me included), they instantly are nervous and don't know where to start. I love that this book starts off with some Pressure Cooking Tips.

One thing that is great about having a Pressure Cooking cookbook is that it takes out the guessing of how long you need to pressure cook for, whether it needs to be High or low pressure and whether to NPR or QPR. All of this info is right there for you in each recipe.

I thought it was really great the way the book was sectioned off (Chicken, Pork, Bowls, Chinese Favorites, etc). While some of the IP recipes were similar to ones I have seen on many other sites (Pork Carnitas), there were a TON of recipes for the IP that I hadn't though of/seen before (gyros, ghee).

I LOVE THE TOG TIPS throughout the book!! These are incredibly helpful!

One huge downfall for this book is the lack of pictures. There is only one picture for maybe every 4 recipes. I rarely will cook a recipe if the picture is not included. I REALLY REALLY want to see if it looks good before deciding to invest the time and ingredients into making it.

I would have enjoyed seeing nutritional facts for each recipe. In the IP world, I really think that this is important. A lot of people that purchase the IP do this in order start eating healthier (and quicker).

4 stars out of 5, removing 1 star for lack of pictures and lack of nutritional information.
