Hilarious satire about the current regime. Too close to the truth, in fact -- or one wishes it were!

I am a lover of the written word. I love how you can put strings of letters together to expand the imagination. With that being said, I find it very hard to give negative ratings when it comes to books. When it came to this one however, I just cannot seem to enjoy it. This book is very clearly written based on current events and leaders and I felt very disturbed by the language and scenarios in this book. I regret that I was unable to finish reading. it.

I feel awful writing bad reviews for a book I was kindly allowed to read for free but this was just dreadful, sophomoric nonsense. I requested it because I'm an obsessive anti-Trumper and would never pass up on the chance to see him mocked but found this embarrassing. I think I discovered that it's impossible to parody someone who is already a self-parody. What's funny about depicting someone disparaging people of colour when we know the real thing disparages people of colour? What's funny about the main character belittling women, being an egomaniac and insulting his detractors when all of that already happens for real? This book won't change anyone's minds about the subject of the novel, but at least it could entertain. Unfortunately, for me, it didn't.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book, and my curiosity caused me to request it. I didn't finish the book, but read a chunk at the beginning and skimmed to the end. The characters are extremely close to their real life counterparts, so much so that reading some of the scenes made me feel a little sick, particularly the sex scenes with the President and FLOTUS. Yuck, I don't want those mental images. I don't like to think too much about the train wreck in the White House, so I chose to discard this book. That doesn't mean it's a bad story, just not what I want to read, so I'm giving it Three stars.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This book is a really thinly veiled fictitious story. The similarities to real-life events are a bit too close for me.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, as I'd love to read something that gives us hope as to the fate of our country. Or, at least makes "you know who" look as greedy and ugly as he really is. But, honestly, the first few chapters were so depressing (and a bit more crass than I'd hoped) that I couldn't go on. So, I have to say I didn't read the whole book. I think I would have kept on if a) there was a bit less crudeness, and b) there was a bit more humor. And, I think it would have been more palatable if it were not quite so identical to real life events.

From the publisher ---
President Rex Funck is a loutish, lying old bully whose affairs have deeply hurt his stunning wife Natalia, a former model from Slovakia. Now he wants to get her pregnant so voters will see him as a macho stud and re-elect him in a landslide. Natalia despises Funck too much to go through with it. With the help of Angel, her gay Mexican hairdresser and BFF, she secretly flees the White House. To take her place they leave Moon, a ballsy trans woman who impersonates FLOTUS at a Miami drag-queen show.
Natalia’s suspenseful escape becomes a personal journey of self-awareness with unexpected twists and outrageous characters. Meanwhile, when the truth comes out about Moon at the White House, all hell breaks loose. In The First Lady Escapes: FLOTUS Flees the White House, Natalia proves herself a true American hero by saving her beloved adopted country from getting Funcked.

This is an obvious satire about the current administration and its "first couple" and what could only happen in Melania's dreams as she seems a prisoner of the White House as we never see her. It is enjoyable and LOL funny at times and it is MEANT AS A JOKE, PEOPLE ... if you are not finding it funny perhaps you need to realize that satire is an art form, as is the finesse and ability to run a country that I do not live in. Thank heavens.
3, bordering on 4 stars because it is meant to be silly and excels at it.

I was excited to read this book because the premise sounded intriguing. However I could only make it so far and ended up having to shelve it. There were too many similar references to our current President and I just can’t read a whole book on that.

I tried to read a novel called “The First Lady Escapes” by Verity Speeks. I didn’t get a fourth of the way through the book when I disgustedly quit reading. This book was quite obviously a satire on the private lives of President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, the First Lady.

I thought I could plow my way through this obvious attempt to vilify our sitting president and make a mockery of his family. I could not continue. Not only was this book suggestively vulgar, almost pornographic in the attempt to denigrate both the First Lady and the President, but I could not stomach the portrayal of the other characters surrounding the First Family, either by the staff, the Secret Service or other family members. I am totally convinced that the author’s name is made up to further insult my intelligence.

I am ashamed that this book was on NetGalley.com, and I didn’t think that this kind of “smut” would be offered on that site. I was permitted to download this Kindle book in order to give my review. I would not even give one star if I had the choice.

I would have posted on Amazon.com, but was unable to because the book has not yet been released.
