As I've learned to expect, a beautifully written and fun read. Adair writes wonderfully believable stories with flawed but truly good heroes and heroines

This is an emotional book, a second chance book between friends turned to lovers. Mackenzie has always loved Hunter who was the lead of the band and she was his song writing partner. When she suddenly disappeared after his engagement party he didn't know what to do. Now after a divorce he is floundering and lost when it comes to songs for the band. He found songs he likes but he will not use them because he wants to meet the songwriter. Turns out it is Mac and now she is blind and doesn't want him to know. Will they survive this and their friendship turn to more? This one was so good!

I seem to be very into romance books these days, and I really enjoyed this one.
It wasn't perfect and I had some issues with the plot, mainly the miscommunication between Hunter and Mackenzie, but overall this was a sweet read.

"Promise me You" had an intriguing premise of unrequited love and a major secret. The writing flowed well and at a good pace, but the male characters had my eyes rolling over and over with their immature comments about women and their hormones or using female comparisons, like little girl, to put down other men.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Marina Adair is one of my favorite authors on the list, but have to admit that "Promise Me You" somehow did not promise Marina's prowess. As much as I liked Mackenzie Hart, it was Hunter Kane's character that did not live up to my expectations.

You can definitely read it once, but for me I really couldn't remember Hunter Kane. The charm and chemistry of Marina's writing was missing in this book.

The synopsis of this book lured me in but I had a hard time getting into Promise Me You. A story of unrequited love and big time secrets this book had all the makings of an intriguing story, but for me the romance aspect fizzled.
Hunter Kane’s band is on the cusp of breaking out, but his songwriting partner Mackenzie Hart who has loved him from afar can no longer pretend especially as Hunter marries. So she walks away and removes herself totally from his life.

Three years later and divorced with his latest album producing lackluster results Hunter is determined to work with a songwriting duo who has produced one hit after another, but they refuse to meet him face to face. Turns out this “duo” is Mackenzie and her dog and the reason she left was because she was keeping a huge secret about herself from Hunter. I was with the book up until this point and I felt like it was going to be really good, but then it kind of fell apart.

While I liked Mackenzie the secret she kept from Hunter became almost the entire focus of the story and I felt like the romance was lacking. I didn’t feel the heat between these two. Mackenzie was a likeable enough character and I admired her strength and determination to live her life to the fullest. Hunter however rubbed me the wrong way over and over and on top of that he gave me whiplash with his “let’s be friends” one minute and then trying to get Mackenzie into bed the next. It was hard to buy his complete turnaround and they never seemed to really work out the issues they had, they just swept them aside until the very end where everything was wrapped up with a neat little bow.

While I enjoyed the first third of Promise Me You, the rest of the book left me disappointed.

I'll admit I was a little bit nervous to read this one, only because typically I'm not into the musician troupe, but how could I resist a new book in a new series from Marina Adair? I couldn't, lol. And I throughly enjoyed Mac and Hunter. I thought this story was a bit more believable than past musician love stories I've read since both characters are in the bussiness; Hunter as a country singer and Mackenzie as a songwriter. I love how all of Adair's previous books feel like they could a true life romance story and this one is no exception. And this book has it all, with ups and downs. I even cried in a couple of spots, but overall I was left feeling happy for these two. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

This was not my favorite book. It was hard for me to finish and I got the feeling throughout that it was missing something. I'd like to give this author another try because I feel like she's got something, this one just didn't make the mark. The intention was kind of hard to pin down and the heroine's disability seemed to be the catalyst for a few of their issues. I must say the book began strong but got lost at a point. I really had hopes in the beginning.

Promise Me You
by Marina Adair

Promise Me You is a heart-wrenching story; the journey of love, of finding the balance between tough love and romantic love in collective terms, the beauty and strength of true love that will overcome everything. If you love sweet, sexy, and emotional contemporary romance with real depth and a wonderful storyline, you do not want to miss this story. Promise Me You; breaks the readers heart and put the pieces back together again, a truly amazing story that will have the reader crying, laughing, and sighing in equal amounts.

Our heroine has a strong-will and independent nature; but, learns that people need to accept help. She is a young and talented songwriter with a real genetic issue, who is very standoffish and stubborn; but has a soft soul. Our hero has a compassionate heart of gold, wants to help and encourage others; but realizes that he does not have to take care of everyone. Our hero sees our heroin again; he knows that it is not just about work anymore, he wants a chance to get to know her again. The magic between these two characters is like the most romantic love song ever written, and together they find this balance that is radiant and warms the heart.

Ms. Marina Adair’s writing style puts the reality of life into her story, for her readers to witness ways that situations can be worked out; so, that her readers really get an education on the issues her characters have. Authors that write a book that can entertain the readers; while educating them at the same time, I would have to say is a winner. I am a new reader of Marina Adair's work and I must say that she is an amazing writer; I have enjoyed reading Promise Me You and look forward to reading more of her work. Ms. Marina Adair is an incredible storyteller, one that develops her characters in ways that can get into her readers imagination!!

I was engrossed in this story from the first chapter, to the point that I felt the real and raw feelings of our heroin. I am now a fan of Marina Adair, anxious for more of her work; but I will be reading Promise Me You again!!! I am writing this review to share with the world this truly amazing author Marina Adair who writes contemporary romance like no other and I want to help others to find her work for themselves. A 5-star rating goes to Promise Me You, by Ms. Marina Adair.

Mackenzie has a life of sadness and was determined to take care of herself. She left her world behind since she let her fears consume her with each breath she took. Hunter stood by her side and having him back in her life may just help give her the strength she had been missing for three long years. They make beautiful music together but will they be able to create a world that balanced each other? An amazing tale of overcoming diversity and gaining the strength back you need.

This was just okay for me. I was really interested in reading a book where the heroine has a disability, but the usual plot issues that have plagued other books were here. Lack of communication/miscommunication to the point of frustration gets a bit old.

Oh man, I loved this book. A cozy romance with a difference. The story follows the main character Mackenzie, a song writer who lost her eyesight to a hereditary disease that also took her mothers sight falls again for her former best friend, a musician who she wrote beautiful music for.
It was such a sweet story about how Mackenzie learned to navigate the world and the interplay between dependent on someone and being independent but walking along side people you love. I love romance novels, thats no secret around here, but I really love them when there’s more depth than just the stereotypical romance. Totally would recommend.

Mackenzie Hart is in love with her best friend, Hunter Kane. Too bad he up and married someone else causing her to disappear from his life. Now three years later, they're reunited and Hunter is determined to convince Mackenzie to help him write songs for his upcoming album while making sure she doesn't disappear from his life again. Yet, the more time they spend together, the more Mackenzie finds herself falling for Hunter all over again when she knows she should keep her distance. Will Hunter be able to convince Mackenzie that she's the right woman for him or will their chance at happy ever after slip by again?

What an emotionally-charged, fast-paced, enchanting read Ms. Adair has delivered in this first book of her Raising Kane series where the main characters have quite the history and I could understand why the heroine is scared to face the hero after everything that's happened in her life and the secret she's kept from him for three years. How well will the hero deal once he learns the heroine's secret?

The way this story started had me feeling sorry for the heroine because there's nothing like feeling so scared about the future; a future where she feels no other option but to walk away from those that care about her in order to protect her heart and hide the truth about her future being so bleak. Will she be able to handle everything once Hunter comes back into her life? Moreover, both the characters are wonderful and I loved the hero's determination to win over the heroine because they've always been close -- until they weren't -- and he wants nothing more than to be with her.

With the main characters, I absolutely loved this couple. They've both had tough pasts that have made the resilient characters they are; characters whose emotions I felt alongside them, as they're reunited and the hero fights hard to get their friendship back to how it was and then make it so much more if only he can convince the heroine that she's the one he wants forever with. Furthermore, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked that she let the hero in because life hasn't been easy without him, especially when he's always been there for her. Why didn't the heroine trust him enough to tell him the truth of what was happening in her life? While the hero, he's confident, driven to succeed when it comes to the new album and I liked how determined he was to win the heroine over because he wants her back in his life, as his life hasn't been the same without her. I also liked the close relationship the hero has with many of the secondary characters and that they'd do anything to bring Mackenzie and Hunter together again.

Overall, Ms. Adair has delivered a fantastic read in this book where emotions run high; the chemistry between this couple was powerful; the romance was nicely-detailed and had me loving this couple together; and the ending had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after because they're meant to be together. I would recommend Promise Me You by Marina Adair, if you enjoy second chance romances, the friends to lovers trope or books by authors Jill Sanders, Catherine Bybee, Jill Shalvis and Melissa Foster.

This was unique in concept and my first book by the author. The writing style is compelling and well explained with the heroine's disability. It was interesting to see how that would affect the yet to be found relationship. It had a lot of angst cause of the rift between the MC's. But I liked the story original and different.

I enjoyed reading this book mainly for the romance and our two main characters Hunter and Mackenzie! I liked reading about Hunter and Mackenzie boding over their love of music and seeing their relationship progress. I also liked seeing them try to work out their problems, so they could have a real relationship and understand each other better. I loved how Hunter cared so much for Mackenzie and how he tried to help her overcome any obstacles/fears she faced in learning how to live independently as a blind person. Mackenzie was such a strong and independent person that I liked. This was time reading a book by Marina Adair and it was a good book. I can see the talent she has in writing and look forward to reading more of her books.

The book was very sweet but it felt a bit slow for me.I always worry that I need to be in the right mood to read a book but I tried several times. It was good! Yes! But not great.

Promise me you was such a promising book (yes, I did go there). The lack of communication between the main characters though ruined it. Mackenzie decided to ghost Hunter three years ago because he was about to marry another woman and she was going blind. She just left and that was the beginning of the silence between them. I don't feel like they ever talked about everything that went wrong between them and how it could be fixed, which is a shame. I also don't understand why Hunter married the other woman. I didn't get the impression that they were in love in the first place. Mackenzie and Hunter didn't have a connection that went more than friendship even when Mackenzie was in love with him. Hunter was not a likable dude and Mackenzie could have had a better man. Overall, for me, the book was not good. The main characters didn't have a spark and the writing was not that good.

Promise Me You by Marina Adair was a highly emotional read.

When I first started reading this novel, I thought it was going to be a stereotypical second chance rock star romance. Well, I was certainly wrong. This novel was unlike any musical book I have read in the past. It had emotional depth, and twists I have never read about in a book of this form before.

Mackenzie is such a complex character, who has been through some incredibly rough phases in her life. It’s as if Mackenzie keeps getting hit with worse news each and every day. What I admired about Mackenzie was how, no matter what bad news she received, she kept pushing forward. She took this news, and made the best of it.

Hunter Kane was such an amazing guy. You could tell how much he truly cared about Mackenzie, and was willing to do anything to make sure that she was taken care of, and had the support she needed to keep going. It also helps that Hunter was a genuinely good guy, and not only wanted the best for his family, friends, and Mackenzie, but also his band mates. To me, it was as if Hunter cared more about everyone else but himself.

For me, the downsides to this novel, was the overall relationship and development. I would have like for more character development, and build-up of the relationship between Mackenzie and Hunter. I understand that they have known each other for years; however, they were apart for almost ten years, before they reconnected. Then, all of a sudden, it only took a couple songs, and they were right back together where they were before. In addition, the ending felt very rushed to me. It was though everything was okay, without anyone every really talking things out.

3.5/5 Stars!

This was my first time reading Marina Adair and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My heart broke for Mackenzie and her feelings for Hunter, no wonder she made the decision she did regarding their friendship. I was frustrated with Hunter and his feelings and behavior towards Mac in the past; if she was his best friend, why did he let her go so easily? There's a lot happening in this book, maybe too much, as the side issues take away from the main story of Hunter and Mac.

I'm such a sucker for a good romance about musicians. This story is so much more than just the story of two musicians who fall in love. Adair's storytelling is outstanding and the way she depicts Mackenzie's challenges felt realistic. I was captured throughout the whole book and would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good, slightly emotional, story.
