Roaring Twenties Murder Mystery
If you enjoy stories set in the 'roaring twenties', you will love this story. Although this is the
7th book in the series, it is the first one I have read. Although the story comments on previous adventures and is built on past events, it stands alone quite well. The story has several different plot lines going on at the same time. It is interesting and a bit convoluted, but it all ties up together at the end. Very well done! The characters are also well done. They are all deep and have realistic motivations. The book is tense and a bit scary. I didn't want to read it before bed and waited until daylight hours. I enjoyed this book so much that I am going to read the whole series from the beginning. I received this book for free and this is my honest opinion.

A quickly paced plot, descriptive writing and characters that are not only likable but lovable make this another rich paranormal cozy that is easy to read and hard to put down until the end.

Awesome read!!I loved the paranormal aspect of it,the author didn't let me down. The description of the 1920s draws you in,like you could've been there. The ghosts, the party and the whodunit in the spirit world and a Jane doe in the real word.An easy fun read if you're like me you'll figure out who did what and when.

I missed the book right before this, but had no problem picking up where Verity was. I really enjoy how Fox comes up with original story lines in a setting I would have imagined would offer limited opportunities. I guess that explains why I'm not a writer. I liked meeting the new crew of ghosts and could visualize the home and house party in my mind from the writing.

The secondary story line with Beau could have been left out, however, I think it was added to further move along Verity's personal life (and it also would have made a shorter book).

As usual, Lucy pops up here and there to add a little cuteness. We even get a little, like two sentences, giving her backstory. I think she's my favorite fictional pet.

I think this has been my favorite book in the series so far.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have been wanting to check out this series. When I got the chance to pick up a copy of this book, I jumped at the chance. Although, this is the first book that I have read in this series; I felt like I had established an relationship already with Verity, Frankie, and Ellis. Ellis is the calm under pressure one out of the bunch. Verity and Frankie more jump before thinking and they are more reactive to situations as well. Thus, the reason why make good room mates.

While, I liked the characters, I found the story to be subtle. I wanted more. There was not a lot of mystery or action happening between both cases that Verity was solving. Well for most of the story but the last third of the story did pick up and wrap up the cases nicely. I didn't fall in love with this book but I do want to go back and read book one due to the fact that I enjoyed the characters.

This is a fun, quick, easy read. Verity has her hands full dealing with Frankie and the Inspector. I thought that it was a bit too silly at times, nut the mystery is well written. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.

I was super excited that I got a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for a review, which I am always happy to provide, especially since I am a huge fan of the Author and the Southern Ghost Mystery Series. I would recommend that you read the series in order, you would still be able to enjoy this book without it, but you will get a better understanding of Verity and her journey. This book was so much fun to read, it might just be my favorite book yet, it had plenty of action, ghostly and otherwise, mystery and romance and I can't wait to see what will happen next. I would love to see more interactions between Verity and Ellis, maybe even an elopement, and for her to be able to restore her home again too. Great Series and very entertaining.

Pecan Pies and Dead Guys by Angie Fox is the 7th book in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery series. Verity Long is a ghost hunter, who usually gets help from her ghost, Frankie, the gangster ghost. This time Frankie needs Verity help to solve an old murder case, to keep him out of ghost prison. Verity boyfriend Ellis needs her help on a present day murder case.

Not only is this book really funny, it has a great mystery, with exciting activity. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love humorous paranormal cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book. This book can be read as a stand alone but you might want to start with book one Southern Spirits, you won't be disappointed if you like fun, paranormal cozy mysteries. Definitely one of my favorite series.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I always enjoy the books in this series. This story was a fun and easy one day read with plenty of all the best characters from the series. I have to say that I really would like to see more progression and honesty in the relationship between Verity and Ellis. I would love for him to know and aknowledge all his mother has done to Verity and start to protect her more. I did like how he joined her on one of her hunts. Their getaway was one of the most exciting scenes in the story. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.

I received an ARC.

Pecan Pies and Dead Guys by Angie Fox is another brilliant cozy mystery. I was swept back up into Verity Long's ghost solving mystery series. Joining her, I was again introduced to the 1920's ghost gangster that makes me laugh so hard. I cannot help from laughing where, Frankie is concerned. Then, there's Verity's handsome copy boyfriend who is still at her side despite his mother's attempts to separate them. And last but not least, is the newest cast member. A new ghost, who is a detective. He still treats Verity like a stupid female human being. But she's really the mastermind behind solving the crimes of murder. With Frankie's help, Verity should solve the new murders with an ease. However, one crime scene is missing a ghost. The other is from the past and needs solving quick before it disappears again. Overall, I love the cast of characters. The ghosts add spice and humor. The humans are a mystery and keep things interesting. Angie Fox sure knows how to create a stunning mystery novel.

Angie Fox has another wonderfully fun mystery with Verity and Frankie in Pecan Pies and Dead Guys - the 7th entry in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series.

The ghostly Inspector De Clercq has drafted Frankie, Verity's resident ghost, to help him solve a murder mystery at a Great Gatsby era party. They have 3 days to solve the mystery and then it will be closed to them for another year. If they don't succeed, the inspector will lock Frankie up in ghost prison for good. With motivation like that, Frankie will pay close attention to the goings on at the Adair mansion. Verity will do her best to assist them in solving the mystery even though the inspector doesn't want the help of a live woman. Not sure which he considers the bigger liability, that she is alive or a woman.

Meanwhile, Ellis (Verity's boyfriend and a cop) has a mystery of his own to solve regarding a dead body in a ravine. And then Verity has an additional mystery - someone is leaving pecan pies at her house without a note or a friendly visit. Is someone stalking her?

I love the way Verity and Frankie interact. Their banter is entertaining. And it's obvious they've come to care about each other.

The mysteries are well done, especially the ghostly mystery at the 3-day party. There were plenty of suspects with motives. I loved the descriptions of the opulence of the mansion and the party and could easily picture it being made into a movie or a film.

While it can be read as a standalone, it might just whet your appetite for the rest of the series. It's not the first one that I've read and I feel the reader would perhaps get more enjoyment out of the book if they read some of the earlier ones as well.

I give this paranormal cozy 4 stars out of 5. It's well-written and entertaining. I look forward to the next installment in the series.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions herein are my own and freely given.

Normally I don't read books within a series without having read the previous books, but I made an exception with this one. Overall, it was a cute, quick, and enjoyable read. It had some mystery, a dash of romance, and a paranormal aspect that kept me intrigued.

I enjoyed the characters, main and secondary ones. Verity is a sweet, charming, loyal, dependable, good person. I liked that she was able to see, speak, and interact with ghosts; helping them if they wanted/needed it. I hadn't expected the danger that came with it, so that was a nice surprise.

I do feel that there was a lot more attention on the ghost mystery than there was for the human mystery. But other than that, this was still good.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. This is my honest review.

Just love this series!
I think this is one of the best so far, and can't wait for the next installment.
Verity and Frankie get teamed up with a dead detective that needs to solve a murder almost a century old. Frankie faces eternity in prison confinement if he doesn't solve the murder.
Meanwhile, there is a suspicious death in the living wold that needs to be solved.
There are a lot of things going on with several characters that make the story more interesting.

Verity and her ghost-seeing (-ish) ways are back and she's neck deep in another dangerous mystery. Dangerous because, you know, the ghosties can do real bodily harm to her when she's plugged in to their realm.

But let's not worry about little things like that, shall we? Let's focus on the more pleasant parts. Like her hunky boyfriend Ellis who is probably the most supportive person ON THE PLANET. I mean, the guy not only deals admirably with the fact Verity was once engaged to his brother, but he also doesn't bat an eye when Verity needs him to drive a getaway vehicle from ghostly shenanigans.

Considering he's a cop, that says a lot about him. (In a good way. A totally good, supportive of his girlfriend's ability to see things he can't way. Because the way I wrote that was like he was a bad cop who was down with driving getaway vehicles and that's not what I was getting at AT ALL. He's just down with saving his honey from murderous ghosts and other things that go bump in the night. AS ONE SHOULD BE.)

Bottom line: I still like Verity and all her quirks. Ellis is awesome. The ghosts all have their issues. Man, I like this series.

Pecan Pies and Dead Guys by Angie Fox is the seventh book in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. Verity Long is surprised when she receives a call from her boyfriend and deputy, Ellis Wydell. He wants her to come to a crime scene at the quarry with Frankie to see if can provide some insights. Unfortunately, Verity is unable to provide any helpful intel. Later that evening, Verity and Ellis are attending a barbeque hosted by Virginia Wydell, Ellis’s mother when Inspector Julien De Clercq catches up with them. They have agreed to help Inspector De Clercq with a case that has stumped him for a century in exchange for the charges against Frankie being dropped. Verity has three days to solve the murder that occurred on the Adair estate in 1928 before the ghostly crime scene and the suspects disappear for another year. In the world of the living, Virginia is on a tear because Beau has decided to quit his law practice and to become an eclectic folk artist. He says it is all thanks to Verity (oh dear) and Virginia wants Verity to fix it. Virginia dangles a precious Long family heirloom as bait. After a night of questioning ghostly suspects, Verity finds a pecan pie on her kitchen counter. Lucy knocks it over before Verity can take a bite. When another pecan pie is left in the kitchen, Verity becomes suspicious. How did the person get into her home when all the doors were locked? Come along to charming Sugarland, Tennessee where ghosts and murder abound along with eccentric citizens, adorable skunk and a determined sleuth.

Pecan Pies and Dead Guys is a part of The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries and I suggest reading the series in order. Each book builds upon the previous one in this charming Southern series. Verity has her work cut out for her in this time. There are two murders to solve along with the mysterious pecan pie problem and Beau’s desire to become an artist. Beau believes he is the next Andy Warhol and his new girlfriend, Zoey Lee is encouraging him (his artwork would work well in a haunted house). I like the variety of quirky characters with my favorite being Verity’s resident ghost, Frankie “the German” Winkelmann. Of course, let us not forget Verity’s pet skunk, Lucy (only in Sugarland). Pecan Pies and Dead Guys is nicely written with a fast pace. I quickly devoured this novel. I laughed frequently at the wacky antics in the story. Wait until you discover what Frankie has created in Ellis’ attic. The two mysteries were interesting with the ghostly one being more difficult to solve. The present day murder is a cinch to figure out. I wish the author had put a little more effort into it. The ending is sweet and heartwarming. We also get a clue as to what will occur in the next volume in this whimsical series. I am giving Pecan Pies and Dead Guys 4 out of 5 stars. I have gotten my mother hooked on this series. When she heard I received Pecan Pies and Dead Guys, my kindle disappeared (I am thankful I have a spare one). I heard chuckles emanating from her room for the next several hours.

I always know when I pick up a copy of any book from this series I'm in for a good time. Angie Fox didn't disappoint in this installment. Once again we are back in Sugarland with Verity, Ellis, Frankie the gangster ghost and Lucy the skunk. In the previous book we were introduced to De Clercq the deceased detective. This time he wants Frankie's help to solve a case he was working on when alive. They only have three days to solve it, or Frankie will forever be on house arrest at Verity's house.
We also have a present day mystery going on, a young girl is found dead at the bottom of a ravine. Then Verity is left a pecan pie, when she comes back home and finds another pie on her kitchen counter. Verity starts to get scared and thinks it may be poisoned. This is such an engrossing read it will have you not wanting to put it down. I am always a little sad when I come to the end of these books. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal romance. Angie Fox please write some more of this wonderful series.

Never read this author before, but you know what enticed me the title and cover. The cover has a kooky and fun feeling and the blurb certainly makes me intrigued. So going into reading this book i know its book 7 in a series but i felt i did ok with it. I understand there was some back story to some characters that got developed but i did not feel confused. A very fun story with some interesting characters. There is danger for the main character Verity but it did not get me too worried. I think i would like to read more of this series, depending on what the other books blurbs say but the premise of ghouls and guys has me wanting to read more

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

Seven is my lucky number and I'm feeling very lucky to have found such a wonderful cozy-mystery series as the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries Series. This book can be read as a standalone, but then you would miss the ghostly adventures that lead up to this one and, believe me, the ride is a wild one and Lucky Number 7 is no different. Quirky characters, a moody ghost and a twisty mystery, or two, to solve, "Pecan Pies and Dead Guys" is a fun addition to this fantastic series.

Verity Long has an otherworldly housemate she has inadvertently trapped on her property. Frankie is a 1920's era gangster who has both helped and hindered Verity in the past. You know the old saying: "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Well, life has handed Verity a ghost so she became a Ghost Hunter.

Frankie has come to the notice of a long dead detective who can't find peace until he solves a case he was working when he died, and after almost 100 years the good detective is no closer to that end. Frankie and Verity bring fresh eyes and a new, but unwanted, perspective to the murder of a crooked judge. The murder took place at a weekend house party straight out of the Gatsby era with all the opulence and over the top trimmings included. The Detective has narrowed down the suspects and now it is up to Verity and Frankie to solve the case, or Frankie will be sent to ghost prison for eternity.

In the earthly realm, Verity's boyfriend, Ellis Wydell, has his own case and Verity has been receiving mysterious pecan pies. Verity's ex-fiancée and Ellis' brother, Beau, has a new girlfriend and is having a mid-life crisis. He wants to quit the law firm and become an artist. His mother, Virginia, blames Verity and is not happy.

I loved this book! Well I really love this series so it makes sense. Verity and Frankie are at it again, but this time Verity is pulled in by Frankie. Frankie is at risk at getting put in prison for the rest of his ghostly life by Inspector Le Clerq, if they can't help him solve this murder that the Inspector has been working on for decades. I love the characters at the party and the description of the menagerie . Ghost animals!! this is an awesome story and I can't wait for the next one in the series! Also of course Ellis is still so sweet, Beau is delusional, and Virginia .. well is just Virginia..
