I found this book rather confusing with having so many characters and perspectives at once. I did find that it was interesting seeing how the different characters came together though and their way of dealing with a new person in their heads. It did make me really interested in the company and led the way to a second book really well.

I got this from NetGalley. Listener's Remains by L. Julia was perfect psychological thriller which also made me laughted so hard. Twisted is good word in this book and well it was so beatifully twisted that I haven't words to say more. This is one of the books, which I read in one night because every time when I try stop, I needed read more chapters or more pages, so it was better stay up until I finish it. Good thing was that I read this book in my Chrismas holiday so it doesn't matter that I was wake almost whole night. I loved this book and I must say that I hope that my friends can also read this book. It is worth or it was to me. Every taste is different, but I liked this book and that will be book, which I will read again in some day.

Eduardo is a mind reader and a successful, slightly shady businessman. He's gay and has an open marriage with a nice woman. Then one day his brother-in-law/business partner murders him. But oh no! It turns out when a mind reader dies, he leaves a psychic imprint on anyone in the area. In this case he imprints on three people: His murderer (Gillen), his murderer's wife/accomplice (Therese), and one of his employees who happened to be in the area (Andrew). He begins haunting all three of these people, none of whom know about each other's possession--at least at first. Meanwhile Gillen has gone on the run from the law, Therese is trying to avoid being arrested and reclaim her life, and Andrew is just...confused.

I liked three out of four main characters to varying degrees. Gillen and Eduardo's relationship is probably the weirdest, with Gillen's reasons for killing Eduardo obscured and Eduardo not exactly happy with Gillen seeing as he's been murdered. There's also a lot of sexual tension there, though it never quite breaks loose. It was to me the most interesting of the three pairs, too. Andrew and Eduardo's duo feels more like a partnership out of a buddy cop movie: Eduardo wants to go chasing revenge and is very intense, whereas Andrew is very normal and would rather stay at home. It's a fun pair, and also conducive to the novel as a thriller: It allows for an investigation and gives more background on what is going on than we can get from Gillen's point of view. Then there's Therese.

Oh, Therese.

Therese is utterly villainized and I have no idea why. Is she guilty of murder? Yes. But so is Gillen. There's no real reason that her character should be treated to a complete descent into madness (which the reader is clearly supposed to be rooting for as her karmic backlash) when the narrative shows Gillen a lot of sympathy. This kind of annoyed me, reading. Nevertheless, she did function as a decent villain, I suppose.

I really liked the premise and the worldbuilding of this novel, and it certainly kept me reading. Probably would recommend. I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Listener's Remains

Expected release date 10-8-2018
Nine Star Press / New mexico

A Oyente is a listener. A listener is a mind reader. Gillian Lynch had no idea what a Oyente was when he killed his sisters spouse, Eduardo, to keep his attraction to him a secret. Eduardo was a Oyente, and to avenge his deception, literally comes to live in Gillens mind, able to to read his thoughts. Able to expose Gillen's past, and his secret, that could destroy Gillen carefully planned future. Gillan must now evade the cops who want to question him about his past, and Eduardo who knows his past and could control his future.
Betrayal....Deception....Perfectly paced, I hope this is developed into a series. Great read.
Look for it around October 8, 2018.
Thanks #NetGalley for sending this book.

That was perfect, I laughed so hard at the end. Beautifully twisted and an out there mind bleep. The blurb didn’t give much away so I had no idea to expect so much. Apart from Therese, I couldn’t bring myself to hate any of the main characters. Would happily read a sequel.
