This is still one of my favourite books and one of my favourite characters; I can't believe she's 30! Just a complete nostalgia fest.

What a great idea to celebrate Matilda's 30th birthday with 3 new covers speculating on what became of this extraordinary girl.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Matilda again and in English after reading it in translation as a child and seeing the movie probably every christmas since it came out. The story is still amazing and Quentin Blake's illustrations never grow old.

I read virtually every Roald Dahl book I could get my hands on when I was at school but I was just a little too old to read Matilda when it was written. But what a shame that I didn’t!

Matilda is a wonderful story full of wonderfully horrible and equally beautiful characters. And as is often the case with Roald Dahl books, it is about love and fairness and how children have much to teach adults, should the adults take the time to pay attention.

But I always found that the Quentin Blake illustrations added so much to Roald Dahl’s stories and it is fantastic that this 30th anniversary publication of this title maintains all of the original Quentin Blake illustrations but with the addition of new covers depicting what the illustrator imagines Matilda may be doing now.

I obviously received from NetGalley an electronic version of the 30th anniversary edition of the original book, and although our household has a standard copy of Matilda, having seen a display of this edition in my local bookshop I am sorely tempted to purchase the hard copy. A wonderful story for children of all ages, beautifully presented.

Loved this book as a kid still love it now. I don't think they is a roald dahl book I have read that i haven't lived. Every house should own at least one roald dahl book. Thanks for giving me the chance to read this again netgalley!

I absolutely loved reading the original Matilda when I was a child, so when I saw this on NetGalley as a read now I had to download it straight away.  I really can't believe Matilda is 30.

Ok, so I think I may have got myself confused about this book when downloading it, as I thought this was about Matilda when she has grown up, but in fact it is the original book republished with a new front cover showing what Matilda could be doing now. Oh well, never mind, even after re-reading it after all these years it's still one of my favourite Roald Dahl books.

Confession: I’d never read Matilda before.

I don’t even have a good reason why. I always loved reading growing up, read most of Roald Dahl’s books, and had seen the Matilda film. But for some reason I never picked up this book.

I’m so glad I finally did!

I’m sure most people are familiar with Matilda’s character and story. She’s an incredibly bright young girl with a love of reading and learning. And doesn’t let her ignorant parents or scary head mistress hold her back.

This is a wonderfully heart warming story of a child facing adversity, and finding kindness in her teacher. And it’s one I’ll definitely be making sure my kids read growing up!

I love the new covers released to mark the 30th Anniversary, and the one you can see above is my personal favourite. The library helped Matilda expand her world as a young child, and I’d love to think of her wanting to make sure other children get the same privilege.

I was a huge Roald Dahl fan as a child, I think I had nearly all of his books and they were stories I'd read over and over again so it's very hard for me to be objective about them now as an adult. It's funny because on the surface Matilda should have been my favourite of his books - its about a little girl who loves reading and spending time in the library which was totally me as a child and if I'm honest still describes me now LOL - but I think my heart had already been stolen by the BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so I only read this one a handful of times. It wasn't until the movie released that I really started to appreciate this story and it's impossible to reread this now as an adult without picturing Mara Wilson as Matilda.

There's just something special about all of Roald Dahl's books but Matilda really is one of his most well loved characters and there's a very good reason for that. She's an intelligent child who doesn't fit in at home and whose parents definitely don't appreciate her but she finds a magical place when she discovers the local library and teaches herself to read. Her love of books and reading is something all bookworms will appreciate but I also love her constant search for knowledge and her excitement about getting to attend school for the first time.

The relationship she develops with her teacher Miss Honey is heartwarming and desperately needed after we've seen how badly she is treated by her parents. Then of course there is the terrifying headmistress Mrs Trunchbull who runs her school more like a prison until Matilda dishes out some much deserved punishment of her own.

I loved revisiting this story and I think I appreciated it so much more now that I'm an adult. The movie will always hold a special place in my heart but now the book does too. It's hard to believe that this story is 30 years old this year and I absolutely love the newly updated covers designed by the original illustrator Quentin Blake. His drawings throughout the book add so much to the story and I love the way he's imagined some of the exciting jobs that Matilda could have chosen for the new anniversary editions. I'm very, very tempted to collect the set but I'm not sure my already straining book cases can take the pressure.

I wish I would have read this when I was growing up. I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading it to my son when he gets a bit older.

I felt sad that was just the original story as I had misunderstood. However it has been years since I read the original printed one and it was a joy to reread it. I loved the illustrations. This is a classic loved by all and what a lovely idea to introduce a special 30 year version. Roald Dahl was a great author and an even greater loss to the literary world.

Matilda was one of the main reasons I read so much as a child, and why I read so much more as an adult!
The new illustrations of what Matilda would be doing at 30 are absolutely beautiful and it was great to re-read a classic that I fell in love with as a child.
I must admit I was a little disappointed that there were no extra stories to go along with the new illustrations but they are still fantastic.

What a pleasure to be able to share one of my favourite childhood books with my son. Matilda at 30 has been illustrated by Quentin Blake to imagine what Matilda might be doing at 30. Who couldn’t imagine her as a Chief Executive of the British Library? A World Traveller? Or an Astrophysicist? I love how Matilda at 30 could have pushed the boundaries to become something amazing. She was a feminist of her time and an inspiration for children.

Now to the story, Matilda at 30 is no different to Matilda the original story. It is a re-issue, with a beautiful hardcover to celebrate Matilda’s birthday. Matilda Wormwood is an under appreciated 5 year old who is wise beyond her years. Her neglectful parents don’t realise what a shining star Matilda is, and are characters you love to hate. They despise Matilda, which only makes us love her more for the pranks she plays on them. She loves to read, and this means Matilda has a view of the world that allows her to plot intricate tricks on the adults who wrong her. Another of those adults is Miss Trunchbull, the awful headmistress at school. She is the headmistress from your worst nightmares, and a complete opposite of the lovely, gentle and kind teacher Miss Honey. Matilda knows exactly who to trust at school, and Miss Trunchbull soon makes it clear she is not to be crossed, although that doesn’t stop Matilda!

Miss Honey takes Matilda under her wing in a world full of hateful, angry adults. What a great story to have as an early introduction to Roald Dahl. One thing I didn’t appreciate as a child was the wide range of language this book uses to enhance children’s vocabulary. My son loves the pranks, the way good wins over evil, and most of all the fact that adults aren’t always right. It is a reminder that hard work pays off, that you should fight for what is right, and that it really costs nothing to be kind

I grew up as a book loving child in a house full of books. Matilda was one of my favourite movies. I must have watched it hundreds of times over the year. So it seems crazy to me that up until now I hadn't actually read the original book! I have no idea why I never read it, I think it's a book I would have adored as a child.

Unpopular opinion time: I never really got along with Roald Dahl. I read a lot of the books but there were only a couple that I actually liked and if I'm honest, even those I liked the movies more than the books. I just find them a bit gross. The descriptions of a lot of the characters, especially the villains, the way that Dahl as the narrator talks about the kids... Reading this as an adult, made the bits that I didn't like really clear to me. Especially as I could compare the bits I really enjoyed about Matilda to the bits I really didn't like about the other books. Such as the Twits, which I really hated and is mostly comprised of the gross grotty bits.

Aside from my dislike of Roald Dahl, I really did enjoy reading this book. Despite how I feel about it, Dahl is a massive part of my childhood and it really took me back to that and to the movie that I really loved. It was nice to see the new illustrated cover by Quentin Blake (be sure to check out the other covers that have been released for the 30th anniversary) and it's so great to finally know that I've read this book and what I've thought about it.

One of my favourite books growing up, Matilda was formative in making me who I am today. I love this new edition with additional illustrations, imagining what Matilda did when she grew up too. Sheer perfection.

One of my all time favourites from my childhood, it’s been great reading it again with my kids. Matilda still stands up as an absolute classic. Strong, funny and sometimes scarey (Yes, you Mrs Trunchball) characters flesh out a brilliant ride along with the ever lovable and magical Matilda.

A classic favourite of mine from childhood, this version is just beautiful and inspires many fond memories of reading this again and again.

I still love Matilda as much as I ever did. The hopefulness and the female friendship are particularly compelling. And Matilda is a story we need in the current climate.

It's hard to believe that the classic Roald Dahl story of Mathilda is 30 years old! It's one of my favourites, with characters like the fearsome Trunchbull and the cake eating Bruce Bogtrotter.

In this edition you can read the story again. Quentin Blake has imagined what career Mathilda could be doing at the age of 30 and drawn the illustrations to match.

A charming slip of a book. A slip of a book yet so powerful and strong and inspiring, just like Matilda herself. I am sure it stirred up quite a commotion when first published!
