Jenna Hart is getting her bookshop, the Cookbook Nook, prepared for the Christmas holidays. When her sister visits with her family, Jenna finds her sister’s marriage is troubled. Her sister’s husband has a secret that may damage his marriage forever. Then, her neighbor, Jake, came to her for help when he finds his friend dead and strung up in Christmas lights. Can Jenna unravel the truth before something else happens to destroy the Holidays? This is one of my favorite authors of cozy mysteries. And, this is a great installment to the Cookbook Nook series. Jenna is a very likeable character who uses her wit and intelligence to figure things out. I liked that she was able to work with the police, and not hide her investigation. I love her quirky aunt who gives the mystery a little humor, and some needed insight. The plot kept me confused until the end. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it. |
I have long been a fan of this author since the Cheese Shop Mysteries. So when I saw this book I knew I had to try it. It did not disappoint and I read the whole book quickly. As always the author had me stumped until the very end. Even though she is very good at giving clues throughout the book. This book is about Jenna Hart the owner of the Cookbook Nook. Expecting a quiet holiday season she stumbles yet upon another murder. This time it is at the home of her Dad's good friend Jake. I always love how this author is so descriptive and you can practically invision everything she describes, from the food, clothing and characters. It also helps that there are a ton of recipes included in her books and being an avid baker and cook I want to try every one of them. I had not read the previous books in this series but intend to very soon. I received this book in exchange for my honest review. |
cozy-mystery, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, recipes, family-dynamics I hadn't read anything by this author before but that didn't leave me behind at all. The publisher's blurb is pretty good, so there's no need to summarize again, and spoilers are just dumb. Jenna, her immediate family and her friends, too, have a lot of complications going on in their lives, and then comes the murder to make things even more difficult! I really enjoyed reading it, and the dessert recipes are awesome. I requested and received a free ebook copy from Beyond the Page via NetGalley. Thank you! |

Wonderful series, and this is a fantastic addition to it and will put you in the holiday mood while reading. Well written, fun characters that are always being added to and a well thought out plot that keeps you reading more. Very enjoyable. |
Jenna had planned to spend a happy, cozy Christmas decorating the Cookbook Nook, but her family has other plans. First her snooty sister, worried that her husband has been doing things he shouldn’t shows up on Jenna’s doorstep. She’s soon followed by the news that a friend of her father may have been the target of a murder that claimed the life of another man. Slipping into her role of private detective, Jenna begins looking into all the people who might want Jake dead, but she’s not quite fast enough, because Jake is poisoned and close to death. This cozy series combines some of my favorite things, books, cooking and murder! |

This year Jenna Hart is getting families and murder for Christmas. It is Christmas in Crystal Cove, CA, and Jenna Hart is getting ready for the holidays. The decorations are out, family and friends are arriving, and The Cookbook Nook is ready for those last minute events. It is a great time of year for everyone, except for the visiting friend of one of the long time residents, who is found deceased, tangled in the Christmas lights. This is the 7th book in the A Cookbook Nook Mystery series by Daryl Wood Gerber, and is a fantastic addition to the series. As always, the book has a very tight plot with good distribution of clues that will keep you guessing. Daryl's characters are fun and ever evolving, growing as the series continues. I love how she keeps you guessing between the new and old characters. The pacing is nice. You get a great story that builds steadily, keeping you guessing for the whole sleighride. To keep you in the holiday spirit after you finish the mystery, there is a whole list of Christmas recipes for you to try. I can't wait to pick out a few to make this December. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest review. |
