Due to a passing in the family a few years ago and my subsequent health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for years after the bereavement. Thank you for the opportunity.

Faith Martin on top form. Engaging detective and enthralling plot. This is an excellent series. Would recommend.

Although I've really enjoyed previous books in the series I found that I didn't like this one as much. The overall story was enjoyable and I did find the mystery interesting enough to keep going but Wendy and Jake were additions I didn't enjoy--they felt a little flat. It feels like a bridging novel within the series building to a bigger plot but as such I didn't enjoy it as much as previous books in the series.

I love this author and her books. I have read some of her previous titles so had a rough idea what had gone on before. I would suggest that new readers start at the beginning of the series though.. We are also left in the dark as to the conclusion of one of the story threads at the end of the book. Having said that it’s still a well written, satisfying crime thriller.

Amazing read! The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.

Firstly I want to thank NetGalley and Joffe Books for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first Faith Martin novel that I’ve read and my first encounter with Hilary Greene and I enjoyed it very much.

The story moved along nicely, being neither too slow or fast paced whilst the style of writing keep me interested all the way through. I found the majority of the characters to be very believable though I didn’t buy Jake Barnes, I can’t put my finger on why but I wasn’t keen on him.

Now that I’ve read #16 in the series I feel the need to go to the beginning and start #1.

This book is part of a long running series and it does help to have read some if not all of the previous books.

Hillary is dealing with another cold case and it's refreshing to have a female character in her 50s who is seen as attractive and very smart . I'd have liked more of her Sgt Jimmy in the book as they work together well. I enjoyed the plot and I love the characters. My only complaint is that the book doesn't end properly, there are lots of loose ends which means you need to read the next book. I would have anyway but it's annoying that you have to.

I've noticed this cosy mystery detective series has featured consistently in the Kindle bestselling lists, and so I decided to see why. 'Murder in Mind' is the penultimate book in the series but after the first chapter, you know who is who, and what Di Hillary Greene's backstory is, so it reads fine as a standalone.

Although a former DI, Hillary now works as a civilian consultant for a cold crime unit. The reason for using civilians in this crime-solving setting is explained realistically. Against a background of police budget cuts, civilians are cheaper to employ, and she has the necessary professional knowledge and connections to make crime solving in this way possible and authentic.

It's refreshing to see a woman in her fifties at the forefront of the story. Her expertise and tenacity are unquestioned by her colleagues, both civilian and police, and she is a likeable, relatable character.

I also liked the two younger characters working with her, both have stories and Jake's is particularly poignant and threatens both his own and the team's credibility and safety.

The cold crime is brutal and tragic and the list of possible suspects vast, each thread of evidence is explored in a believable and interesting way, with lots of false clues, until the well- thought out ending is revealed.

This is a curious mix of police procedural and cosy mystery, which draws you into the plot and the characters'lives, I want to read the previous books now and look forward to the final book in the series.

I received a copy of this book from Joffe Books via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Another competent addition to the series. It’s nice to see a strong female police officer as a lead character. Technically, she is a retired DI working on cold cases with a small team of civilians and an ex policeman. The plots are well drawn, the dialog believable, in all an enjoyable read. If you’re looking for a series you can pick and follow, you won’t be disappointed with this selection.

My favourite mystery series does not disappoint with this installment of the Hilary Green series. More changes for Hilary - a new boss, and a new cold case murder file for her to solve. The secondary plot is also interesting as we wonder what Jake is up to.

Faith Martin has remained true to the Hillary Greene series, keeping her at the top of her game where solving murder crimes are concerned. Now she has involved her personal life a little deeper showing that Hillary besides being top of her game is also all woman. I always look forward to these murder mystery cause they are so complex for Hillary and her team, but they get the job done no matter what. A truly awe-inspiring series that keeps you on the crime trail, with its puzzling clues Hillary has the knack of deciphering.

Murder in Mind by Faith Martin

Number 16 in the Hillary Green series.

Set in Oxford, Ex-DI Hillary Green is still working cold cases as part of of the Care Review Team (CRT). Her boss and lover Steven Crayle is about to move to a new job, so she is getting used to a new boss and two new young civilians on the team.

Sylvia Perkins and elderly lady, had been found dead in her home after being hit with a poker, back in 2010, so the CRT are looking into the case again. Also one of the young civilians on the team seems to be doing some sneaking around, which makes them wonder what the young dot.com millionaire is up to.

Faith Martin has created a great, believable and likeable character in Hillary Green, she’s a mature woman, respected by all her peers with an enviable reputation and still living on The Millers on the Oxford canal. While the story is relatively gentle, it is an in depth investigation and police procedural with a nice twist at the end.

This is book 16 in the series of Di Hillary Greene. She has retired but still working cold cases for the department. In this one she is investigating the murder of an elderly lady in her home years ago. Hillary also has to think about the proposal of marriage from Steven.
This is a great read, love this series.

Hillary is starting her new job in the cold case division. I love, love, love forensic mystery and especially books that involve cold cases. They always hold my fascination, and with this book and this story the author did an amazing job. The twists and turns throughout the book made me have to read it in one night. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me the chance to read this book.

3.5 for loose ends

I didn’t realize that this was one of many in a series. It does work as a stand alone but I felt I would have benefitted from prior background. At the beginning there was a large character dump and I got a bit nervous that I would be lost as the story moved along but it does settle down.

The characters are interesting and the plot was sound. There were a few suspects to choose from so there was enough action to move things along and a few surprises too. I liked Hilary and her team. I also liked the writing style. The sad ending was fitting but I wasn’t a fan of some looses ends. I know these things happen in a series... I would go back and read more of this series. Recommend

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Joffe Books for a copy in exchange for a review.
